Laser-induced fluorescence detection was used to measure photolysis rates of anthracene and naphthalene at the air-ice interface, and the kinetics were compared to those observed in water solution and at the air-water interface. Direct photolysis proceeds much more quickly at the air-ice interface than at the air-water interface, whereas indirect photolysis due to the presence of nitrate or hydrogen peroxide appears to be suppressed at the ice surface with respect to the liquid water surface. Both naphthalene and anthracene self-associate readily on the ice surface, but not on the water surface. The increase in photolysis rates observed on ice surfaces is not due to this self-association, however. The wavelength dependence of the photolysis indicates that it is due to absorption by the PAH. No dependence of the rate on temperature is seen, either at the liquid water surface or at the ice surface. Molecular oxygen appears to play a complex role in the photolytic loss mechanism, increasing or decreasing the photolysis rate depending on its concentration. 相似文献

We report near-ultraviolet and visible absorption cross sections of hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) using incoherent broad-band cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy (IBBCEAS), a recently developed, high-sensitivity technique. The measurements reported here span the range of 353-410 nm and extend published electronic absorption cross sections by 60 nm to absorption cross sections below 1 × 10(-23) cm(2) molecule(-1). We have calculated photolysis rate constants for H(2)O(2) in the lower troposphere at a range of solar zenith angles by combining the new measurements with previously reported data at wavelengths shorter than 350 nm. We predict that photolysis at wavelengths longer than those included in the current JPL recommendation may account for up to 28% of the total hydroxyl radical (OH) production from H(2)O(2) photolysis under some conditions. Loss of H(2)O(2) via photolysis may be of the same order of magnitude as reaction with OH and dry deposition in the lower atmosphere; these processes have very different impacts on HO(x) loss and regeneration. 相似文献

We report an ultrafast study of a merocyanine molecule, whose fluorescence lifetime was tuned by changing the solvent's polarity. A recent theoretical prediction that the fluorescence lifetime is considerably shortened upon lowering the polarity of the solvent, due to tuning of the conical intersection properties, is fully confirmed (Xu et al. Sub-10-fs laser pulses are used to impulsively photoexcite bacteriorhodopsin (BR) suspensions and probe the evolution of the resulting vibrational wave packets. Fourier analysis of the spectral modulations induced by transform-limited as well as linearly chirped excitation pulses allows the delineation of excited- and ground-state contributions to the data. On the basis of amplitude and phase variations of the modulations as a function of the dispersed probe wavelength, periodic modulations in absorption above 540 nm are assigned to ground-state vibrational coherences induced by resonance impulsive Raman spectral activity (RISRS). Probing at wavelengths below 540 nm-the red edge of the intense excited-state absorption band-uncovers new vibrational features which are accordingly assigned to wave packet motions along bound coordinates on the short-lived reactive electronic surface. They consist of high- and low-frequency shoulders adjacent to the strong C=C stretching and methyl rock modes, respectively, which have ground-state frequencies of 1008 and 1530 cm-1. Brief activity centered at approximately 900 cm-1, which is characteristic of ground-state HOOP modes, and strong modulations in the torsional frequency range appear as well. Possible assignments of the bands and their implication to photoinduced reaction dynamics in BR are discussed. Reasons for the absence of similar signatures in the pump-probe spectral modulations at longer probing wavelengths are considered as well. 相似文献

1‐Boraphenalenes have been synthesized by reaction of BBr3 with 1‐(aryl‐ethynyl)naphthalenes, 1‐ethynylnaphthalene, and 1‐(pent‐1‐yn‐1‐yl)naphthalene and they can be selectively functionalized at boron or carbon to form bench‐stable products. All of these 1‐boraphenalenes have LUMOs localized on the planar C12B core that are closely comparable in character to isoelectronic phenalenyl cations. In contrast to the comparable LUMOs, the aromatic stabilization of the C5B ring in 1‐boraphenalenes is dramatically lower than the C6 rings in phenalenyl cations. This is due to the occupied orbitals of π symmetry being less delocalised in the 1‐boraphenalenes. 相似文献
