Extension of the Sommerfeld diffraction integral to the case of extremely short optical pulses

The Sommerfeld diffraction theory is extended to the case of extremely short pulses. It is shown that a simple qualitative analysis and a quantitative solution of a wide class of diffraction problems are possible for pulses with durations of the order of the period of the light oscillations and an arbitrary initial distribution of the light field. Liquid chromatographic-mass spectrometric studies on rifamycin antibiotics

The use of a direct liquid introduction type liquid chromatographic-mass spectrometric interface to study highly thermally labile rifamycin antibiotics is described. Using negative ionization, abundant molecular ions were observed, and the spectra, also contained structurally significant fragments. Variation of the high-performance liquid chromatographic parameters did not change the spectra, thus making it easy to change chromatographic conditions. In quantitative studies, a surprising correlation was found, indicating that the mass spectrometric signal was proportional to the square of the sample concentration.     

On the correspondence between rotational bands in the mass regionsA ≃ 100 andA ≃ 150

A refined technique is presented to project rotational bands observed in the well studiedZ≧60 rare-earth region into the region of stable ground-state deformation atA ～-100 with corresponding neutron numbers ofN ≧60. With this procedure, estimates of properties of so far unknown nuclei in the A～-100 region can be obtained. As an illustration, isotopes aroundN=64 are discussed within this projection method and within the frame-work of the recent quartet model.     

Diazabicycloalkanes with nitrogen atoms in bridgehead positions. 15. Reactions of benzo[b]-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octene monoquaternary salt derivatives with nucleophilic reagents

Monoquaternary salt derivatives of benzo[b]-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octene react with piperidine and sodium methoxide or 4-tert-butylthiophenoxide to give primarily N,N-disubstituted tetrahydroquinoxalines. Rate constants have been measured for these bimolecular reactions. On the index of composition of integers from various sets

Given an integer n ≥ 2, let λ(n) := (log n)/(log γ(n)), where γ(n) = Π _p|n p, stand for the index of composition of n, with λ(1) = 1. We study the distribution function of (λ(n) – 1) log n as n runs through particular sets of integers, such as the shifted primes, the values of a given irreducible cubic polynomial and the shifted powerful numbers. Some hydrodynamic aspects of 3-phase inverse fluidized bed

Hydrodynamics of 3-phase inverse fluidized bed is studied experimentally using low density particles for different liquid and gas velocities. The hydrodynamic characteristics studied include pressure drop, minimum liquid and gas fluidization velocities and phase holdups. The minimum liquid fluidization velocity determined using the bed pressure gradient, decreases with increase in gas velocity. The axial profiles of phase holdups shows that the liquid holdup increases along the bed height, whereas the solid holdup decreases down the bed. However, the gas holdup is almost uniform in the bed.

The object of the present paper is to study quasi-conformally flat weakly Ricci symmetric manifolds.      

Experience Gained Using Second-Moment Closure Modeling for Transitional Flows Due to Boundary Layer Separation

This paper presents detailed information on the experience gained during the attempts to model a set of transitional flows due to boundary layer separation. These flows are developed on a flat plate with a semi-circular leading edge and they have been coded by the ERCOFTAC Special Interest Group on Transition, as T3L flows. Different freestream velocities and turbulence intensities configure these transitional flows and, by consequence, govern the transition mechanism, resulting in larger or smaller transitional regions. The modeling of the T3L flows has been performed by adopting a low-Reynolds number second-moment closure turbulence model. The results showed satisfactory agreement with the experimental measurements, although some difficulties regarding successful convergence have been faced. The final conclusion is that turbulence modeling can present quite accurate results for transitional flows without any additional use of ad-hoc modifications or additional equations based on various transition models and intermittency transport modeling.
