Asymptotic analysis of the nonsteady micropolar fluid flow through a curved pipe

ABSTRACT

We consider the nonsteady flow of a micropolar fluid in a thin (or long) curved pipe via rigorous asymptotic analysis. Germano's reference system is employed to describe the pipe's geometry. After writing the governing equations in curvilinear coordinates, we construct the asymptotic expansion up to a second order. Obtained in the explicit form, the asymptotic approximation clearly demonstrates the effects of pipe's distortion, micropolarity and the time derivative. A detailed study of the boundary layers in space is provided as well as the construction of the divergence correction. Finally, a rigorous justification of the proposed effective model is given by proving the error estimates.     

Physicochemical investigation of some archaeometallurgical findings from locality Kmpije (Bor,Serbia)

Preliminary results of physicochemical investigation of some archaeometallurgical findings from Kmpije locality in vicinity of Bor (Serbia) are presented in this paper. Ancient samples of prehistoric origin were investigated using different instrumental analytic methods—chemical, differential thermal, X-ray diffraction, and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis. Obtained results indicate to the presence of ancient metallurgical activities, so locality Kmpije may be considered as an archaeometallurgical site, which should be investigated more in future for more precise details.     

Strong cliques in vertex-transitive graphs

A clique (resp, independent set) in a graph is strong if it intersects every maximal independent set (resp, every maximal clique). A graph is clique intersect stable set (CIS) if all of its maximal cliques are strong and localizable if it admits a partition of its vertex set into strong cliques. In this paper we prove that a clique $C$ in a vertex-transitive graph $\mathrm{\Gamma }$ is strong if and only if $\text{◂=▸}\text{◂⋅▸}\mid C\mid \mid I\mid =\mid V\left(\mathrm{\Gamma }\right)\mid$ for every maximal independent set $I$ of $\mathrm{\Gamma }$. On the basis of this result we prove that a vertex-transitive graph is CIS if and only if it admits a strong clique and a strong independent set. We classify all vertex-transitive graphs of valency at most 4 admitting a strong clique, and give a partial characterization of 5-valent vertex-transitive graphs admitting a strong clique. Our results imply that every vertex-transitive graph of valency at most 5 that admits a strong clique is localizable. We answer an open question by providing an example of a vertex-transitive CIS graph which is not localizable.

Mechanism of sorption of pertechnetate onto ordered mesoporous carbon

Ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) was used as an adsorbent for the removal of pertechnetate (TcO₄ ^?) anion. The maximum uptake (93 %) of TcO₄ ^? was obtained after 60 min of contact. The adsorption of TcO₄ ^? is almost pH-independent in very wide pH region (from 4.0 to 10.0). Maximum K _d of 6.6 × 10³ cm³ g^?1 was found at pH 2.0. TcO₄ ^? interacts with carboxylic functional groups present at the surface of the OMC by displacing the OH^? ions with TcO₄ ^? via ion exchange mechanism.
