Solid-state ion-selective electrodes for the potentiometric determination of hexacyanoferrate (II)

Hexacyanoferrate(II)-sensing electrodes were prepared by mixing Ag₂S and Ag₄Fe (CN)₆. The 6:1 Ag₂S/Ag₄Fe (CN)₆ provided the best potentiometric response and speed of response. The log concentration vs. potential curves were linear with Nernstian slope (14.8 mV/decade) over the range 10^?1-10^?6 M hexacyanoferrate (II) at pH 7.00 with constant ionic strength. Interferences included iodide, sulfide and bromide. This electrode was used as indicator in potentiometric titrations of hexacyanoferrate (II).     

Characteristic polynomials of complement of graph bundles and their applications

We study the structure of the complement of an F-bundle over a graph G when it can be expressed as an F-bundle over another graph G. In particular, we compute the characteristie polynomial of the complement of an F-bundle when its voltages lie in and abelian subgroup Г of Aut(F) which acts freely and transitively on the vertices of the fiber F Some applications to regular embeddings of graph bundles into Euclidean spaces are also discussed     

Chattering alleviation in vibration control of smart beam structures using piezofilm actuators: Experimental verification

This paper presents a new discrete-time sliding mode controller to alleviate undesirable chattering in vibration control of a flexible beam structure. A smart beam featuring a piezoelectric film is devised and its governing equation of motion is derived. A discrete-time sliding mode controller which consists of discontinuous part and equivalent part is then designed by considering the separation principle. By doing this, undesirable chattering of the beam structure can be attenuated in the settled phase. The proposed controller is experimentally realized, and both transient and forced vibration control responses are evaluated in time domain.     

Isoperimetric numbers of graph bundles

The main aim of this paper is to give some upper and lower bounds for the isoperimetric numbers of graph coverings or graph bundles, with exact values in some special cases. In addition, we show that the isoperimetric number of any covering graph is not greater than that of the base graph. Mohar's theorem for the isoperimetric number of the cartesian product of a graph and a complete graph can be extended to a more general case: The isoperimetric numberi(G × K _2n) of the cartesian product of any graphG and a complete graphK _2n on even vertices is the minimum of the isoperimetric numberi(G) andn, and it is also a sharp lower bound of the isoperimetric numbers of all graph bundles over the graphG with fiberK _2n. Furthermore, ifn 2i(G) then the isoperimetric number of any graph bundle overG with fibreK _n is equal to the isoperimetric numberi(G) ofG. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-capillary gel electrophoresis of polyethylene glycolylated interferon alpha

Sodium dodecyl sulfate-capillary gel electrophoresis (SDS-CGE) using a hydrophilic replaceable polymer network matrix was applied to characterize the polyethylene glycol(PEG)ylated interferon alpha (PEG-IFN). The SDS-CGE method resulted in a clearer resolution in both the PEG-IFN species and the native IFN species. The distribution profile of PEGylation determined by SDS-CGE was consistent with that obtained by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) with Coomassie blue or barium iodide staining. The result was also compared using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-mass spectrometry. SDS-CGE was also useful for monitoring the PEGylation reaction to optimize the reaction conditions, such as reaction molar ratio. This study shows the potential of SDS-CGE as a new method for characterizing the PEGylated proteins with advantages of speed, minimal sample consumption and high resolution.     

Biocatalytic cascades and intercommunicated biocatalytic cascades in microcapsule systems

Biomolecule-loaded nucleic acid-functionalized carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogel-stabilized microcapsules (diameter ca. 2 μm) are introduced as cell-like containments. The microcapsules are loaded with two DNA tetrahedra, T₁ and T₂, functionalized with guanosine-rich G-quadruplex subunits, and/or with native enzymes (glucose oxidase, GOx, and/or β-galactosidase, β-gal). In the presence of K⁺-ions and hemin, the T₁/T₂ tetrahedra constituents, loaded in the microcapsules, assemble into a hemin/G-quadruplex bridged tetrahedra dimer DNAzyme catalyzing the oxidation of Amplex Red to Resorufin by generating H₂O₂. In the presence of co-loaded GOx or GOx/β-gal, the GOx//T₁/T₂ hemin/G-quadruplex cascade catalyzing the glucose-mediated oxidation of Amplex Red to Resorufin, and the three-biocatalysts cascade consisting of β-gal//GOx//hemin/G-quadruplex bridged T₁/T₂ catalyzing the lactose-driven oxidation of Amplex Red to Resorufin proceed in the microcapsules. Enhanced biocatalytic transformations in the microcapsules, as compared to the performance of the reactions in a homogeneous phase, are observed, due to the proximity of the biocatalysts in a confined volume. As the synthetic methodology to prepare the microcapsules yields boundaries functionalized with complementary nucleic acid tethers, the dynamic association of different microcapsules, loaded selectively with biomolecular catalysts, proceeds. The dynamic dimerization of GOx-loaded microcapsules and hemin/G-quadruplex bridged T₁/T₂ DNAzyme-loaded microcapsules yields effective intercommunicated microcapsules driving the GOx//hemin/G-quadruplex bridged T₁/T₂ DNAzyme cascade. In addition, the dynamic dimerization of GOx-loaded microcapsules with β-gal//hemin/G-quadruplex bridged T₁/T₂-loaded microcapsules enables the bi-directional intercommunicated operation of the lactose-stimulated three catalysts β-gal//GOx//hemin/G-quadruplex bridged T₁/T₂ DNAzyme cascade. The guided separation and formation of dynamic supramolecular dimer microcapsular containments, and the dictated switchable operation of intercommunicated biocatalytic cascades are demonstrated.

Dynamic dimerization of GOx-loaded microcapsules with β-gal//hemin/G-quadruplex-bridged T₁/T₂-loaded microcapsules guides the bi-directional intercommunication of the three catalysts cascade.     

Stress test for a technology credit guarantee fund based on survival analysis

A technology credit guarantee policy has been established to provide financial support to technology-based SMEs with a limited asset base. For an effective technology credit guarantee policy, risk management is essential. In this paper, we investigate a survival model that predicts start-up SMEs’ loan default probability at a given time based on technology attributes along with the economic environment and the firm’s characteristics at the time of the technology credit guarantee fund application. This, in turn, is used for the estimation of the technology fund risk along with a stress test. Our work is expected to contribute to reducing the risks associated with technology financing.
