A powerful method for the phase retardation measurement of a reflective liquid crystal cell is presented. The proposed method is based on the heterodyne interferometer theory for probing cell parameters. Due to common-path optical arrangement, a fast measurement with high accuracy and sensitivity was possible. Both theoretical analysis and experimental procedures are presented. Ionic liquids (ILs) based aqueous biphasic systems (ABSs) have been successfully applied to the extraction and purification of biomolecules. Although much research has focused on the effect of ILs on the phase formation, there are few reports that describe the phase behavior of quaternary IL-based ABS systems using amino acids (AAs) as additives. Here, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([C4mim]BF4) formed an ABS with sodium citrate (Na3C6H5O7) with the aid of AAs. The phase behavior and physical properties of the ABS were investigated at 298 K. The capacity of the AA to create the ABS (area of biphasic region) increases with increasing in solubility and decrease with the molecular weight of the ILs and follows the trend glycine?>?l-alanine?≈?l-lysine?>?l-threonine?>?l-proline?≈?l-arginine?>?none. Moreover, the pH of the top and bottom phases containing l-proline as additive are nearly neutral; l-threonine, glycine, and l-alanine result in mildly acidic environments, while l-arginine and l-lysine provide basic pH conditions. The results show that the effects of the addition of the AAs can be considerable and important in the simulation, design calculation and pH control of ABS for efficient separation and extraction processes.  相似文献

The unique properties of magnetic nanocrystals provide them with high potential as key probes and vectors in the next generation of biomedical applications. Although superparamagnetic iron oxide nanocrystals have been extensively studied as excellent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) probes for various cell trafficking, gene expression, and cancer diagnosis, further development of in vivo MRI applications has been very limited. Here, we describe in vivo diagnosis of cancer, utilizing a well-defined magnetic nanocrystal probe system with multiple capabilities, such as small size, strong magnetism, high biocompatibility, and the possession of active functionality for desired receptors. Our magnetic nanocrystals are conjugated to a cancer-targeting antibody, Herceptin, and subsequent utilization of these conjugates as MRI probes has been successfully demonstrated for the monitoring of in vivo selective targeting events of human cancer cells implanted in live mice. Further conjugation of these nanocrystal probes with fluorescent dye-labeled antibodies enables both in vitro and ex vivo optical detection of cancer as well as in vivo MRI, which are potentially applicable for an advanced multimodal detection system. Our study finds that high performance in vivo MR diagnosis of cancer is achievable by utilizing improved and multifunctional material properties of iron oxide nanocrystal probes.  相似文献

The phase behavior of randomly coupled multiblock copolymer melts is studied using the polymer reference interaction site model integral equation theory. The molecules are modeled as flexible chains with random sequences of two types of blocks, each of which consists of the same number (R) of monomer beads. In the random copolymer (R=1) limit the theory predicts macrophase separation as the temperature is decreased for all values of the monomer correlation length lambda. For R>2, however, the theory predicts a microphase separation for values of lambda less than some critical value which increases as the block size increases.  相似文献

Racemic fluids of chiral calamitic molecules are investigated with molecular dynamics simulations. In particular, the phase behavior as a function of density is examined for eight racemates. The relationship between chiral discrimination and orientational order in the phase is explored. We find that the transition from the isotropic phase to a liquid crystal phase is accompanied by an increase in chiral discrimination, as measured by differences in radial distributions. Among ordered phases, discrimination is largest for smectic phases with a significant preference for heterochiral contact within the layers.  相似文献

Supramolecular hydrogels have been prepared on the basis of polymer inclusion complex (PIC) formation between poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-modified chitosans and alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD). A series of PEG-modified chitosans were synthesized by coupling reactions between chitosan and monocarboxylated PEG using water-soluble carbodiimide (EDC) as coupling agent. With simple mixing, the resultant supramolecular assembly of the polymers and alpha-CD molecules led to hydrogel formation in aqueous media. The supramolecular structure of the PIC hydrogels was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction, and (13)C cross-polarized/magic-angle spinning (CP/MAS) NMR characterization. The PEG side-chains on the chitosan backbones were found to form inclusion complexes (ICs) with alpha-CD molecules, resulting in the formation of channel-type crystalline micro-domains. The IC domains play an important role in holding together hydrated chitosan chains as physical junctions. The gelation property was affected by several factors including the PEG content in the polymers, the solution concentration, the mixing ratio of host and guest molecules, temperature, pH, etc. All the hydrogels in acidic conditions exhibited thermo-reversible gel-sol transitions under appropriate conditions of mixing ratio and PEG content in the mixing process. The transitions were induced by supramolecular association and dissociation. These supramolecular hydrogels were found to have phase-separated structures that consist of hydrophobic crystalline PIC domains, which were formed by the host-guest interaction between alpha-CD and PEG, and hydrated chitosan matrices below the pK(a).The formation of inclusion complexes between alpha-cyclodextrin and PEG-modified chitosan leads to the formation of hydrogels that can undergo thermo-reversible supramolecular dissociation.  相似文献

When treated with protopine and alkalized extracts of the tuber of Corydalis ternata for one year, significant decrease in glutamate level and increase in glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity was observed in rat brains. The expression of GDH between the two groups remained unchanged as determined by Western and Northern blot analysis, suggesting a post-translational regulation of GDH activity in alkalized extracts treated rat brains. The stimulatory effects of alkalized extracts and protopine on the GDH activity was further examined in vitro with two types of human GDH isozymes, hGDH1 (house-keeping GDH) and hGDH2 (nerve-specific GDH). Alkalized extracts and protopine activated the human GDH isozymes up to 4.8-fold. hGDH2 (nerve- specific GDH) was more sensitively affected by 1 mM ADP than hGDH1 (house-keeping GDH) on the activation by alkalized extracts. Studies with cassette mutagenesis at ADP-binding site showed that hGDH2 was more sensitively regulated by ADP than hGDH1 on the activation by Corydalis ternata. Our results suggest that prolonged exposure to Corydalis ternata may be one of the ways to regulate glutamate concentration in brain through the activation of GDH.  相似文献

Micellization behavior of (AB)n type star-block copolymer in a selective solvent for its outer block is investigated by using a Brownian dynamics simulation. Micellar properties are compared in terms of the arm number (n) of star-block copolymer. It is observed that the critical micelle concentration (cmc) shows a minimum when the cmc is plotted against the arm number. The star-block copolymer with longer soluble block shows the cmc minimum at smaller arm number than that with shorter soluble block. Although the star-block copolymer with multiple arms forms more compact core as compared to diblock copolymer, the average aggregation number is inversely proportional to the arm number (approximately 1/n), which implies that the micelle size is invariant with the arm number. Theoretical predictions based on a simple mean field theory agree qualitatively well with the simulation results.  相似文献
