High resolution NMR in solids; A simple and improved ‘magic angle’ probe design for conventional small gap 13C FT spectrometers

The mechanical and electronic design of a ‘magic angle’ NMR probe is described. This probe can be incorporated in a conventional small gap ¹³C FT spectrometer, without any hardware or software change, to obtain high resolution ¹³C NMR spectra on organic solids. A simple way of tuning the homogeneity and adjusting the angle is also proposed. Illustrative experimental results on various types of molecular crystals with different molecular mobilities, a clathrate compound and a polymer are discussed.     

Synthesis on novel Tamoxifen derivatives

The design and synthesis of derivatives of 4-hydroxy-Tamoxifen as potential antagonists of the nuclear receptor LRH-1 are described. Stereoselective McMurry coupling was used to generate the desired internal alkene and a novel method for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted cyclopropane analogues was also developed.     

Fractal aggregates of particles

Recent work to understand aggregation of particles using the concept of fractal is reviewed. We introduce all the tools issued from the theory of fractals, and which are useful for our study. Then we define and detail the two main models: the particle-cluster process where individual particles come to stick on large clusters, and the cluster-cluster process where clusters diffuse and stick when they collide. The important parameters of these models are varied and their influence on the resulting geometrical disordered structure is discussed. All along the paper, the connections with existing experiments are given.     

Direct high-performance liquid chromatographic resolution of dihydropyridine enantiomers

A direct high-performance liquid chromatographic enantioseparation on a chiral stationary phase using a protein as chiral selector was achieved for some dihydropyridines with different structural groups (amine, amide, acid and hydroxyl groups). The protein involved was alpha 1-acid glycoprotein and the work was mainly carried out with an EnantioPac column. An improved version of this chiral column (Chiral-AGP) was compared with the previous one and gave interesting results.     

Fourier transform and theory of fractal multilayer mirrors

A new type of non periodic interferential mirrors are proposed. These mirrors, built according to the pattern of a Cantor set, are autosimilar and are characterized by a fractional Hausdorff dimension. It is shown that such mirrors are able to reflect different radiations whose wavelengths are not harmonic.
