Maximizers for the Stein–Tomas Inequality

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the precompactness of all optimizing sequences for the Stein–Tomas inequality. In particular, if a well-known conjecture about the optimal constant in the Strichartz inequality is true, we obtain the existence of an optimizer in the Stein–Tomas inequality. Our result is valid in any dimension.     

Towards a Certified Version of the Encyclopedia of Triangle Centers

Triangle centers such as the center of gravity, the circumcenter, the orthocenter are well studied by geometers. Recently, under the guidance of Clark Kimberling, an electronic encyclopedia of triangle centers (ETC) has been developed, it contains more than 7000 centers and many properties of these points. In this paper, we describe how we created a certified version of ETC such that some of the properties described come along with a computer checked proof of its validity.     

Non-discrete hybrids in SU(2, 1)

We show that a natural hybridation construction of lattices in SU(n, 1) to produce (non-arithmetic) lattices in SU(n + 1, 1) fails when n = 1 for most triangle groups in SU(1, 1).     

On the Structure of the Ergosurface of Pomeransky-Senkov Black Rings

We study the properties of the ergosurface of the Pomeransky–Senkov black rings, and show that it splits into an “inner” and an “outer” region. As for the singular set, the topology of the “outer ergosurface” depends upon the value of parameters.     

On the Second Cohomology of K?hler Groups

Carlson and Toledo conjectured that if an infinite group Γ is the fundamental group of a compact K?hler manifold, then virtually H²(G, \mathbb R) 1 0{H^{2}(\Gamma, {\mathbb R}) \ne 0} . We assume that Γ admits an unbounded reductive rigid linear representation. This representation necessarily comes from a complex variation of Hodge structure ( \mathbbC{\mathbb{C}} -VHS) on the K?hler manifold. We prove the conjecture under some assumption on the \mathbbC{\mathbb{C}} -VHS. We also study some related geometric/topological properties of period domains associated to such a \mathbbC{\mathbb{C}} -VHS.     

Modular approach for modeling a multi-energy district boiler

The present paper deals with the modeling of a district boiler (city of La Rochelle, west coast of France), as part of the OptiEnR research project. This “multi-energy” boiler supplies domestic hot water and heats residential and public buildings, using mainly wood and sometimes fuel or gas if necessary. The OptiEnR research project focuses on optimizing the performance of the boiler. Its main objective is to minimize the use of fossil energy, stocking renewable energy during low-demand periods and using it when peak-demand is high. Because of both the complexity of the plant as a whole and the strong interactions between the sub-systems (the wood boiler, the gas-fuel oil boiler, the breaking pressure bottle, the cogeneration plant, the hot water distribution network), a modular approach has been proposed. According to what information is available, a combination of white, grey and black boxes (Hammerstein–Wiener models) has been used to carry out the modeling task. To answer for the lack of information, additional parameters were proposed and identified. The model has been first used in simulation during heating periods, with the aim of optimizing both the parameters of the boilers control systems and the use of wood, gas and fuel oil. Next, it will be used, when adding to the plant a thermal storage unit and implementing a model predictive controller, to improve its functioning, especially reducing the coverage rate of the fossil energy boiler.

Fundamental Domains for Finite Subgroups in <Emphasis Type="Italic">U</Emphasis>(2) and Configurations of Lagrangians

We show that every finite subgroup of U(2) is contained with index two in a group generated by involutions fixing Lagrangian planes. We describe fundamental domains for their action on related to the configuration of these Lagrangian planes.
