The methanol, ethyl acetate and chloroform extracts of selected Croatian plants were tested for their acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition and antioxidant activity. Assessment of AChE inhibition was carried out using microplate reader at 1?mg?mL?1. Antioxidant capacities were determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging test and ferric reducing/antioxidant power assay (FRAP). Total phenol content (TPC) of extracts were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu colorimetric method. Out of 48 extracts, only methanolic extract of the Salix alba L. cortex exerted modest activity towards AChE, reaching 50.80% inhibition at concentration of 1?mg?mL?1. All the other samples tested had activity below 20%. The same extract performed the best antioxidative activity using DPPH and FRAP method, too. In essence, among all extracts used in the screening, methanolic extracts showed the best antioxidative activity as well as highest TPC. 相似文献

The absorbance and polarized absorbance spectra of single crystals of the reaction center complex isolated from Rhodobacter sphaeroides wild type strain 2.4.1 have been measured at 85 K. The crystals of the complex were obtained by the vapor diffusion technique. The spectroscopic experiments on the crystals were performed using an optical microspectrometer featuring a custom-built, liquid N2-flowing cold stage, the details of which are presented herein. These data demonstrate the feasibility of conducting optical spectroscopic experiments at cryogenic temperatures on single crystals of photosynthetic pigment-protein complexes. 相似文献

We report the results of measurements of the dc susceptibility and the 23Na-NMR response of Na2V3O7, a recently synthesized, nonmetallic low dimensional spin system. Our results indicate that, upon reducing the temperature to below 100 K, the V4+ moments are gradually quenched, leaving only one moment out of nine active. The NMR data reveal a phase transition at very low temperatures. With decreasing applied field H, the critical temperature shifts towards T=0 K, suggesting that Na2V3O7 may be regarded as an insulator reaching a quantum critical point at H=0. 相似文献

An artificial neural network (ANN) model for the prediction of retention times in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed and optimized. A three-layer feed-forward ANN has been used to model retention behavior of nine phenols as a function of mobile phase composition (methanol-acetic acid mobile phase). The number of hidden layer nodes, number of iteration steps and the number of experimental data points used for training set were optimized. By using a relatively small amount of experimental data (25 experimental data points in the training set), a very accurate prediction of the retention (percentage normalized differences between the predicted and the experimental data less than 0.6%) was obtained. It was shown that the prediction ability of ANN model linearly decreased with the reduction of number of experiments for the training data set. The results obtained demonstrate that ANN offers a straightforward way for retention modeling in isocratic HPLC separation of a complex mixture of compounds widely different in pKa and log Kow values. 相似文献

Because of its toxic effects on living beings, Al may represent an environmental hazard, particularly under increased acidic
conditions. Growing environmental concern over the presence of increased Al concentrations in soil solutions and fresh waters
resulted in the development of numerous analytical techniques for the determination of Al species. Al has a very complex chemistry
that is significantly influenced by pH. Different Al species are present in environmental solutions, and many of them are
unstable. Contamination of samples and reagents by extraneous Al represents an additional problem in speciation of Al at trace
concentrations. Due to these reasons quantitative determination of particular chemical forms of Al is still a very difficult
task for analytical chemists. The most important analytical methodologies of the last decade and new trends for the speciation

This communication describes the fabrication of three-dimensional structures of organic polymers using principles of design inspired by protein folding. The structures consist of rigid polyhedral components with dimensions of a few millimeters ("microdomains"), representing alpha-helical and beta-sheet secondary structures, connected with flexible linkers representing loops or turns. These structures were fabricated from polyurethane using photolithographic and soft lithographic techniques. The surfaces of the microdomains were patterned into hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions, and a hydrophobic photocurable liquid (serving both as lubricant and adhesive) was selectively precipitated onto the hydrophobic areas. The unfolded structures were suspended in water and agitated by tumbling. Self-assembly occurred through coalescence of the thin films of hydrophobic liquid, and was caused by minimization of the free energy of the interface between the liquid adhesive and the water. The self-assembled structures were locked in place by curing the adhesive with UV light. These results demonstrate the use of concepts abstracted from the study of proteins-including attractive hydrophobic interactions, shape complementarity, and conformational constraint-in the self-assembly of complex, three-dimensional structures on the millimeter scale. 相似文献

One-dimensional spin 1 systems may have a rich phase diagram including Haldane gap and dimerized phases if the usually very
small biquadratic exchange becomes significant. We show that this unlikely condition may be fulfilled in electron systems
with quasi-degenerate orbitals. This mechanism may have been experimentally realized in the spin 1 chain LiVGe2O6. The implications for the exploration of the physics and quantum chemistry of spin 1 chains are discussed.
