We consider a bilinear reduced-strain finite element formulation for a shallow shell model of Reissner-Naghdi type. The formulation is closely related to the facet models used in engineering practice. We estimate the error of this scheme when approximating an inextensional displacement field. We make the strong assumptions that the domain and the finite element mesh are rectangular and that the boundary conditions are periodic and the mesh uniform in one of the coordinate directions. We prove then that for sufficiently smooth fields, the convergence rate in the energy norm is of optimal order uniformly with respect to the shell thickness. In case of elliptic shell geometry the error bound is furthermore quasioptimal, whereas in parabolic and hyperbolic geometries slightly enhanced smoothness is required, except for the degenerate cases where the characteristic lines are parallel with the mesh lines. The error bound is shown to be sharp.

Xenon porometry is a novel method used for characterizing porous materials by the (129)Xe nuclear magnetic resonance of xenon gas. With the method, the diffusion of gas is slowed down by immersing the material in a medium, which can be in liquid or solid state during measurements. Because of slow diffusion, the signal of a xenon atom is characteristic of the properties of only one pore, and the composite signal of all atoms represents the distribution of properties. The method is especially applicable for determining pore size distribution because the chemical shifts of two different xenon signals (one from liquid and the other from gas pockets in solid) are dependent on pore size. Therefore, the shapes of these signals represent pore size distribution function. In addition, the porosity of the material can be determined by comparing the intensities of two signals. This article focuses on describing xenon signals observed from gas pockets in a solid medium, which has turned out to be most convenient for pore size determination.  相似文献

Dual-spray extractive electrospray ionization (EESI) mass spectrometry as a versatile analytical technique has attracted much interest due to its advantages over conventional electrospray ionization (ESI). The crucial difference between EESI and ESI is that in the EESI process, the analytes are introduced in nebulized form via a neutral spray and ionized by collisions with the charged droplets from an ESI source formed by spraying pure solvent. However, the mechanism of the droplet–droplet interactions in the EESI process is still not well understood. For example, it is unclear which type of droplet–droplet interaction is dominant: bounce, coalescence, disruption, or fragmentation? In this work, droplet–droplet interaction was investigated in detail based on a theoretical model. Phase Doppler anemometry (PDA) was employed to investigate the droplet behavior in the EESI plume and provide the experimental data (droplet size and velocity) necessary for theoretical analysis. Furthermore, numerical simulations were performed to clarify the influence of the sheath gas flow on the EESI process. No coalescence between the droplets in the ESI spray and the droplets in the sample spray was observed using various geometries and sample flow rates. Theoretical analysis, together with the PDA results, suggests that droplet fragmentation may be the dominant type of droplet–droplet interaction in the EESI. The interaction time between the ESI droplet and the sample droplet was estimated to be <5 μs. This work gives a clear picture of droplet–droplet interactions in the dual-spray EESI process and detailed information for the optimization of this method for future applications that require higher sensitivity.  相似文献

Self-constructed pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE) equipment was used in dynamic mode to extract spiked phenolic compounds (phenol, 3-methylphenol, 4-chloro-3-methylphenol and 3,4-dichlorophenol) from sea sand and soil. Phenols were analyzed by both gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) to compare the techniques and to find out if CZE is a suitable tool for analysis of phenols extracted from environmental matrix. Good recoveries of phenols spiked in sea sand were achieved at all PHWE temperatures (50, 100, 200, 300 C). GC-MS studies showed that phenols were selectively extracted from soil at 50 C but various other compounds (e.g. polyaromatic hydrocarbons) were extracted along with the phenols at 300 degrees C. In the case of CZE, phenols extracted from the soil, at 300 C were separated with good resolution at pH 9.7, and co-extracted compounds did not interfere with the analysis. The analytical values obtained by GC-MS and CZE were generally of similar magnitude.  相似文献
