Direct solution method for the equilibrium problem for elastic stents

We are interested in numerical methods for approximating vector‐valued functions on a metric graph. As a model problem, we formulate and analyze a numerical method for the solution of the stationary problem for the one‐dimensional elastic stent model. The approximation is built using the mixed finite element method. The discretization matrix is a symmetric saddle‐point matrix, and we discuss sparse direct methods for the fast and robust solution of the associated equilibrium system. The convergence of the numerical method is proven and the error estimate is obtained. Numerical examples confirm the theoretical estimates.

Improved Heinz inequalities via the Jensen functional

By virtue of convexity of Heinz means, in this paper we derive several refinements of Heinz norm inequalities with the help of the Jensen functional and its properties. In addition, we discuss another approach to Heinz operator means which is more convenient for obtaining the corresponding operator inequalities for positive invertible operators.     

On meromorphic extendibility

Let D be a bounded domain in the complex plane whose boundary consists of finitely many pairwise disjoint real-analytic simple closed curves. Let f be an integrable function on bD. In the paper we show how to compute the candidates for poles of a meromorphic extension of f through D and thus reduce the question of meromorphic extendibility to the question of holomorphic extendibility. Let A(D) be the algebra of all continuous functions on which are holomorphic on D. We prove that a continuous function f on bD extends meromorphically through D if and only if there is an N∈N∪{0} such that the change of argument of Pf+Q along bD is bounded below by −2πN for all P,Q∈A(D) such that Pf+Q≠0 on bD. If this is the case then the meromorphic extension of f has at most N poles in D, counting multiplicity.     

Algebras for flavor quantum numbers

It is shown that the flavor quantum numbers of the basic elementary particles, leptons and quarks, as well as hadrons (with quarks as constituents), can be described withSU(2)×U(1) type of algebras. To treat simultaneously leptons and quarks (hadrons), we introduce the grace quantum number,G, in place ofL (the total lepton quantum number) andB (the baryon quantum number). The formalism developed here requires the basic elementary particles to come in even numbers. For the case of four basic particles we have quantum numbers denoted asQ, X, andY and their duals denoted asQ, X, andY. For the four leptonsQ is the ordinary charge, while —Y andY areL (the muon lepton number) andL _e (the electron lepton number), respectively. For the four quarksQ is the ordinary charge,Y the ordinary hypercharge, whileX, a new quantum number, is simply theX charge, which, however, can be related to charmC.     

Copper(I) and silver(I) complexes of 1,5-methylene- and diethylmethylene-bridged bis(oxazoline) ligands. In situ Cu(II)-catalyzed oxidation of methylene bridge

Silver(I) and copper(I) complexes of C₂-symmetric bis(oxazoline) ligands were studied by UV, NMR, IR, EPR and ES-MS spectroscopies. The stability constants of the Ag-1a and Ag-1b complexes with 1:1 and 1:2 stoichiometries in acetonitrile were determined by NMR spectrometric titrations. The evidence of tetrahedral coordination for complex (Ag(1a)₂(⁺ was obtained from the complexation induced shifts (CIS) and NOEs. Mass spectra revealed the Cu(II) mediated oxidation of methylene bridge in copper complexes of 1a and 1b, which was in accordance with the UV, NMR, IR and EPR findings. The efficiency of Cu(I) complexes of methylene-bridged 1,5-bis(oxazoline)s 1 as chiral catalysts in stereoselective cyclopropanation of styrene with ethyl diazoacetate, was compared to that of the dialkylmethylene-bridged 1,5-bis(oxazoline)s 2.     

Extension of Hilbert's inequality

In this paper we make some further extensions of discrete Hilbert's inequality by using Euler-Maclaurin summation formula. We give the improvements of some previously obtained results and also compare our results with some previously known from the literature.     

Some Discrete Nonlinear Inequalities and Applications to Difference Equations

In this article, the authors establish some new nonlinear difference inequalities in two independent variables, which generalize some existing results and can be used as handy tools in the study of qualitative as well as quantitative properties of solutions of certain classes of difference equations.     

Identities for the Chebyshev functional involving derivatives of arbitrary order and applications

We generalize the identities of J. Pe?ari? and A.M. Fink for the Chebyshev functional. The identities are shown to be very useful in establishing various bounds for the Chebyshev functional.
