Blends of poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) were prepared in various compositions via melt mixing, and the morphological changes were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry and synchrotron wide‐angle and small‐angle X‐ray scattering techniques at a heating rate of 10 °C/min. Differential scanning calorimetry thermograms of PLA/PBS blends showed two distinct melting peaks over the entire composition range. The exothermal peak for PLA shifted significantly to a lower temperature and overlapped with that of PBS around 100 °C. A depression of the melting point of the PLA component via blending was observed. The synchrotron wide‐angle X‐ray scattering during heating revealed that there was no cocrystallization or crystal modification via blending. The synchrotron small‐angle X‐ray scattering data showed that well‐defined double‐scattering peaks (or peaks with a clear scattering shoulder) appeared during crystallization, indicating that this system possessed dual lamellar stacks. These peaks were deconvoluted into two components with a peak separation computer program, and then the morphological parameters of each component were obtained by means of the correlation function. The long period and average lamellar thickness of the two components before melting decreased with an increasing content of the other polymer component. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Silicon dioxide (SiO2) layers with a thickness more than 10 nm can be formed at ∼120 °C by direct Si oxidation with nitric acid (HNO3). Si is initially immersed in 40 wt.% HNO3 at the boiling temperature of 108 °C, which forms a ∼1 nm SiO2 layer, and the immersion is continued after reaching the azeotropic point (i.e., 68 wt.% HNO3 at 121 °C), resulting in an increase in the SiO2 thickness. The nitric acid oxidation rates are the same for (1 1 1) and (1 0 0) orientations, and n-type and p-type Si wafers. The oxidation rate is constant at least up to 15 nm SiO2 thickness (i.e., 1.5 nm/h for single crystalline Si and 3.4 nm/h for polycrystalline Si (poly-Si)), indicating that the interfacial reaction is the rate-determining step. SiO2 layers with a uniform thickness are formed even on a rough surface of poly-Si thin film.  相似文献

Microbial biofouling is one of the major obstacles for reaching the ultimate goal of realizing a high permeability over a prolonged period of nanofiltration operation. In this study, the hybrid nanocomposite membranes consisting of silver (Ag) nanoparticles with antibiofouling capability on microorganism and polyamide (PA) were prepared by in situ interfacial polymerization and characterized by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The hybrid membranes were shown to possess the dramatic antibiofouling effect on Pseudomonas. In addition, Ag nanocomposite membranes had little influence on the performances of the membrane such as on water flux and salt rejection. SEM analysis results showed that all Pseudomonas were dead on the PA/Ag nanocomposite membrane, indicating the effectiveness of silver nanoparticles. EuIr4In2Ge4 is a new intermetallic semiconductor that adopts a non‐centrosymmetric structure in the tetragonal ${I\bar 42m}$ space group with unit cell parameters a=6.9016(5) Å and c=8.7153(9) Å. The compound features an indirect optical band gap Eg=0.26(2) eV, and electronic‐structure calculations show that the energy gap originates primarily from hybridization of the Ir 5d orbitals, with small contributions from the Ge 4p and In 5p orbitals. The strong spin–orbit coupling arising from the Ir atoms, and the lack of inversion symmetry leads to significant spin splitting, which is described by the Dresselhaus term, at both the conduction‐ and valence‐band edges. The magnetic Eu2+ ions present in the structure, which do not play a role in gap formation, order antiferromagnetically at 2.5 K.  相似文献

Understanding how glycosylation affects protein structure, dynamics, and function is an emerging and challenging problem in biology. As a first step toward glycan modeling in the context of structural glycobiology, we have developed Glycan Reader and integrated it into the CHARMM-GUI, http://www.charmm-gui.org/input/glycan. Glycan Reader greatly simplifies the reading of PDB structure files containing glycans through (i) detection of carbohydrate molecules, (ii) automatic annotation of carbohydrates based on their three-dimensional structures, (iii) recognition of glycosidic linkages between carbohydrates as well as N-/O-glycosidic linkages to proteins, and (iv) generation of inputs for the biomolecular simulation program CHARMM with the proper glycosidic linkage setup. In addition, Glycan Reader is linked to other functional modules in CHARMM-GUI, allowing users to easily generate carbohydrate or glycoprotein molecular simulation systems in solution or membrane environments and visualize the electrostatic potential on glycoprotein surfaces. These tools are useful for studying the impact of glycosylation on protein structure and dynamics.  相似文献

The electro-responsive transdermal drug delivery system was prepared by electrospinning of poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanocomposites. The surface modification of MWCNTs was carried out by oxyfluorination to introduce the functional groups on the hydrophobic MWCNTs. The dispersion of MWCNTs and the compatibility with polymer matrices were improved by oxyfluorination. The MWCNT content and oxyfluorination condition played important roles in the swelling and drug release characteristics of nanofibers. The conductivity of nanofibers increased by increasing the content of MWCNTs and performing oxyfluorination with higher oxygen content. Uniform distribution of the oxyfluorinated MWCNTs in the nanofibers was crucial to the electro-responsive swelling and drug releasing behaviors of nanofibers.  相似文献

Gene transfer of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) has been shown to induce significant endothelial migration and angiogenesis in ischemic disease models. Here, we investigate what factors are secreted from skeletal muscle cells (SkMCs) transfected with bFGF gene and whether they participate in endothelial cell migration. We constructed replication-defective adenovirus vectors containing the human bFGF gene (Ad/bFGF) or a control LacZ gene (Ad/LacZ) and obtained conditioned media, bFGF-CM and LacZ-CM, from SkMCs infected by Ad/bFGF or Ad/LacZ, respectively. Cell migration significantly increased in HUVECs incubated with bFGF-CM compared to cells incubated with LacZ-CM. Interestingly, HUVEC migration in response to bFGF-CM was only partially blocked by the addition of bFGF-neutralizing antibody, suggesting that bFGF-CM contains other factors that stimulate endothelial cell migration. Several proteins, matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), and cathepsin L, increased in bFGF-CM compared to LacZ-CM; based on 1-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. Their increased mRNA and protein levels were confirmed by RT-PCR and immunoblot analysis. The recombinant human bFGF protein induced MMP-1, PAI-1, and cathepsin L expression in SkMCs. Endothelial cell migration was reduced in groups treated with bFGF-CM containing neutralizing antibodies against MMP-1 or PAI-1. In particular, HUVECs treated with bFGF-CM containing cell-impermeable cathepsin L inhibitor showed the most significant decrease in cell migration. Cathepsin L protein directly promotes endothelial cell migration through the JNK pathway. These results indicate that cathepsin L released from SkMCs transfected with the bFGF gene can promote endothelial cell migration.  相似文献

This perspective gives an overview of recent developments in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for biosensing. We focus this review on SERS papers published in the last 10 years and to specific applications of detecting biological analytes. Both intrinsic and extrinsic SERS biosensing schemes have been employed to detect and identify small molecules, nucleic acids, lipids, peptides, and proteins, as well as for in vivo and cellular sensing. Current SERS substrate technologies along with a series of advancements in surface chemistry, sample preparation, intrinsic/extrinsic signal transduction schemes, and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy are discussed. The progress covered herein shows great promise for widespread adoption of SERS biosensing.  相似文献

The catalytic roles of ionic liquids (ILs) in the syntheses of 1,3-disubstituted ureas from the carboxylation of amines by CO(2) were experimentally and theoretically investigated. The carboxylation reaction of n-butylamine was greatly facilitated by the presence of an IL and the catalytic activity of the IL was strongly affected by the nucleophilicity of the anion. Computational study on the mechanistic aspects of the carboxylation with methylamine with or without the presence of an IL, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, implies that the activation energies of the transition states and the intermediate ionic species could be lowered significantly through the multi-interactions of the carbonyl group of CO(2) with both cations and anions of the ILs.  相似文献
