Synthesis and anion binding properties of 2,5-diamidothiophene polypyrrole Schiff base macrocycles

[reaction: see text] Two easy-to-synthesize polypyrrolic 2,5-diamidothiophene Schiff base macrocycles are reported, along with their anion binding properties as determined via UV-vis spectroscopic titrations carried out in dichloroethane. There is a striking difference between the interactions with anions of the two macrocycles, a finding ascribed to differences in their rigidity. For example, the more flexible dipyrromethane-derived macrocycle displays a 1.2:1 hydrogen sulfate versus nitrate selectivity, while its more rigid bipyrrole-derived congener shows a 7.4:1 selectivity in favor to hydrogen sulfate.     

Enantiomeric separation of citalopram analogues by HPLC using macrocyclic glycopeptide and cyclodextrin based chiral stationary phases

The enantiomeric separation of a novel series of twenty-eight racemic mixtures of citalopram analogues was performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Due to the effectiveness of citalopram as an antidepressant drug, the development of new compounds based on its chemical structure is interesting, and their enantiomeric separation is needed to allow further pharmacokinetic studies. Several bonded cyclodextrin (both native and derivatized) and macrocyclic glycopeptide based chiral stationary phases (CSPs) were evaluated for their ability to separate this set of compounds via HPLC. Polar ionic, polar organic, and reversed phase modes were tested. Twenty-five of the racemic mixtures were separated with resolutions and enantiomeric selectivities up to 2.9 and 1.33, respectively. A total of eighteen baseline separations were achieved, while seven compounds were partially separated. Vancomycin based columns operated in the polar ionic mode resulted in the greatest number of separations. Lastly, the chromatographic behaviors of similar compounds were compared based on their chemical structure and also on the chiral selectors used.     

Synthesis and Characterization of nido-[1,1,2,2-(CO)(4)-1,2-(PPh(3))(2)-1,2-FeIrB(2)H(5)]: A Heterobimetallaborane Analogue of nido-[B(4)H(7)](-)

The synthesis and characterization of nido-[1,1,2,2-(CO)(4)-1,2-(PPh(3))(2)-1,2-FeIrB(2)H(5)] (1) is reported. 1 is formed in low yield as a degradation product from the reaction between [{&mgr;-Fe(CO)(4)}B(6)H(9)](-) and trans-Ir(CO)Cl(PPh(3))(2) in THF and is characterized from NMR, IR, and analytical data and by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with a = 12.8622(12), b = 14.3313(12), c = 23.579(3) ?, beta = 97.12(2) degrees, Z = 4, V = 4257.0(8) ?(3), R(1) = 4.83%, and wR(2)()(F(2)) = 12.43%. The heterobimetallaborane structure may be viewed as a derivative of the binary boron hydride nido-[B(4)H(7)](-) and is related to the known homobimetallatetraborane analogues [Fe(2)(CO)(6)B(2)H(6)] and [Co(2)(CO)(6)B(2)H(4)]. 1 exhibits proton fluxionality in its (1)H NMR spectrum, which is related to that found in the latter two compounds.     

Carbon nanotube salts. Arylation of single-wall carbon nanotubes

[reaction: see text] Carbon nanotube salts prepared by treating single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with lithium in liquid ammonia react readily with aryl iodides to give SWNTs functionalized by aryl groups.     

On Schur Superfunctors

We introduce super-analogues of the Schur functors defined by Akin, Buchsbaum and Weyman. These Schur superfunctors may be viewed as characteristic-free analogues of finite dimensional irreducible polynomial representations of the Lie superalgebra ????(m|n) studied by Berele and Regev. Our construction realizes Schur superfunctors as objects of a certain category of strict polynomial superfunctors. We show that Schur superfunctors are indecomposable objects of this category. In characteristic zero, these correspond to the set of all simple supermodules for the Schur superalgebra, S(m|n, d), for any m, n, d ? 0. We also provide decompositions of Schur bisuperfunctors in terms of tensor products of skew Schur superfunctors.
