Specific phase transition in superconductors of smallκ

A specific phase transition at which the superconductivity changes its order due to increasing alloy concentration has been observed. The values of the critical temperature, of the critical fields, of the GL parameter and the critical concentration have been determined.     

On a theorem of Wald and Wolfowitz on randomization in statistics

In [9] it is proved that to each randomized decision function, there exists an equivalent randomized decision rule (cf. [3]), provided that the space of decisions is Polish. The object of the present paper is to show that the above theorem is a special case of risk-equivalence (cf. [5]) even if the space of decisions is analytic.     

Some examples of associated charged particle multiplicities in proton-proton collisions at 19 GeV/c

19 GeV collisions in the CERN 2 meter hydrogen bubble chamber have been investigated for the number of prongs associated with an observed p, Λ, π^? or K_s⁰ with specified cms momentum components. For p and Λ the associated charged particles have been classified according to their longitudinal direction relative to the observed p and Λ     

The two-dimensional,N=2 Wess-Zumino model on a cylinder

We construct a family of supersymmetric, two-dimensional quantum field models. We establish the existence of the HamiltonianH and the superchargeQ as self-adjoint operators. We establish the ultraviolet finiteness of the model, independent of perturbation theory. We develop functional integral representations of the heat kernel which are useful for proving estimates in these models. In a companion paper [1] we establish an index theorem forQ, an infinite dimensional Dirac operator on loop space. This paper and, another related one [2], provide the technical justification for our claim thatQ is Fredholm, and for our computation of its index by a homotopy onto quantum mechanics.Supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant DMS/PHY 86-45122Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellow     

The Abstraction of Reality for Games and Simulations

This paper examines the way in which reality is abstracted in the preparation and design of a game or simulation model. Two modes and four dimensions of abstraction are identified. Of particular importance is the construal dimension, which depicts the subjective content of a model as perceived by a participant. It is argued that anything more than trivial abstraction in this dimension alters the meaning of models to such an extent that human players will not be able properly to understand them. This limits the types of games with human players that can validly be played for research or education to those with relatively specific rather than general results. The argument is developed in terms of a spectrum of result generality for game and simulation models.     

Uniquely solvable quadratic boolean equations

Quadratic boolean equations with a unique solution are characterized. A linear-time algorithm is proposed to recognize them.     

Applications of the method of partial inverses to convex programming: Decomposition

A primal–dual decomposition method is presented to solve the separable convex programming problem. Convergence to a solution and Lagrange multiplier vector occurs from an arbitrary starting point. The method is equivalent to the proximal point algorithm applied to a certain maximal monotone multifunction. In the nonseparable case, it specializes to a known method, the proximal method of multipliers.
