The interaction of aspartic acid with kaolinite was studied by potentiometric titrations and by adsorption measurements both at constant aspartate concentration (but varying pH) and at a constant pH of 5.5. The temperature was 25 degrees C, and the ionic medium 5 mM KNO3. Aspartic acid dissociation constants estimated from titrations agreed with those from the literature. The adsorption of aspartic acid to kaolinite was weak and varied only slightly with pH; 10-18% of 100 microM aspartic acid adsorbed to kaolinite at 100 m(2)L(-1) between pH 3 and 10. Data from the titrations and adsorption experiments were fitted closely by an extended constant-capacitance surface complexation model, in which monodentate outer-sphere complexes formed between deprotonated aspartic acid molecules and protonated sites on the variable-charge edges of the kaolinite crystals. There appeared to be no adsorption to the permanently charged crystal faces.  相似文献

The formulation of organic–inorganic polymer composites can be used to enhance selected properties, such as susceptibility to microbial attack, thermal stability, mechanical strength and water sorption capability. Accordingly, a series of alginic acid–silica hydrogel films was prepared for testing as protective coating materials for PTFE osmotic distillation membranes. Unprotected hydrophobic membranes are subject to wet-out when contacted by surface-active agents, such as oils and detergents. Films containing 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt.% silica, with and without the addition of glycerol for plasticisation, moisturisation and silica dispersion, were characterised using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, mechanical strength measurements, and water-swelling measurements. Composites prepared with glycerol addition had better thermal stability, mechanical strength and water sorption capability than those prepared without glycerol addition. Uncoated membranes and membranes coated with composites prepared with glycerol addition were tested for OD performance and resistance to surface-active agents using pure water, orange oil (limonene)–water mixtures, and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate detergent solutions. Uncoated membranes showed immediate hydrophobicity loss in the presence of orange oil and detergent. For coated membranes, no wet-out occurred over the 15 h duration of three consecutive 5 h OD trials using orange oil–water mixtures. In the case of detergent solutions, the coating afforded protection to the membrane for 4–5 h. In a separate trial, no wet-out occurred when the coated side of the membrane was placed in contact with 1.2 wt.% orange oil for 72 h.  相似文献

Long-range carbon atom topomerization in a 1,3-diyne has been demonstrated for the first time. 1-Phenyl-4-p-tolyl-1,3-butadiyne, (13)C-enriched at C-1, was synthesized and subjected to flash vacuum pyrolysis. At 800 degrees C and 0.01 Torr, this resulted in nearly complete (13)C label equilibration between C-1 and C-2, as seen by NMR analysis. Pyrolysis at 900 degrees C further led to ca. 35% of the label migrating about equally to C-3 and C-4. These results demonstrate that both intrabond and interbond atom exchange processes are operative, with the former having a lower activation barrier. DFT and Moller-Plesset calculations support a mechanism that passes through Brown rearrangement (1,2-shift), closure to trialene (bicyclo[1.1.0]-1,3-butadiene), bond-shift isomerization to exchange C-2 and C-3, and ring opening. The resulting vinylidene can rearrange to a butadiyne with the isotopic label at C-3 or C-4. Consistent with earlier calculations, trialene is predicted to have alternating peripheral bonds, with a weak central sigma bond and significant diradical character. Trialene is predicted [(B3LYP/6-311+G(2d,p)] to lie 64.6 kcal/mol above butadiyne, with barriers of 2.2 and 4.4 kcal/mol, respectively, for ring opening or bond-shift isomerization. Other potential rearrangement mechanisms which pass through tetrahedrene (E(rel) = 167.2 kcal/mol) or 1,2,3-cyclobutatriene (E(rel) = 161.1 kcal/mol) lie at much higher energies.  相似文献

We report the gas-phase preparation of negatively charged glycine as well as the Gly(H(2)O)(1,2) (-) complexes by entrainment of the neutral precursor into an ionized supersonic expansion tuned to optimize the (H(2)O)(n) (-)Ar(m) clusters. The photoelectron spectrum of Gly(-) displays the signature of a dipole-bound species, with sufficient vibrational fine structure to characterize the core neutral as a higher energy, non-zwitterionic isomer of the amino acid.  相似文献

We used single-pair fluorescence resonance energy transfer (spFRET) measurements to characterize denatured and partially denatured states of the multidomain calcium signaling protein calmodulin (CaM) in both its apo and Ca(2+)-bound forms. The results demonstrate the existence of an unfolding intermediate. A CaM mutant (CaM-T34C-T110C) was doubly labeled with fluorescent probes AlexaFlour 488 and Texas Red at opposing globular domains. Single-molecule distributions of the distance between fluorophores were obtained by spFRET at varying levels of the denaturant urea. Multiple conformational states of CaM were observed, and the amplitude of each conformation was dependent on urea concentration, with the amplitude of an extended conformation increasing upon denaturation. The distributions at intermediate urea concentrations could not be adequately described as a combination of native and denatured conformations, showing that CaM does not denature via a two-state process and demonstrating that at least one intermediate is present. The intermediate conformations formed upon addition of urea were different for Ca(2+)-CaM and apoCaM. An increase in the amplitude of a compact conformation in CaM was observed for apoCaM but not for Ca(2+)-CAM upon the addition of urea. The changes in the single-molecule distributions of CaM upon denaturation can be described by either a range of intermediate structures or by the presence of a single unfolding intermediate that grows in amplitude upon denaturation. A model for stepwise unfolding of CaM is suggested in which the domains of CaM unfold sequentially.  相似文献

We have measured the ionic conductivities of pressed pellets of the layered compounds MUO2PO4 · nH2O, and correlated the results with TGA data. The conductivities (in ohm?1 m?1), at temperatures increasing with decreasing water content over the range 20 to 200°C, were approximately as follows: Li+4H2O, 10?4; Li+, Na+, K+, and NH4+3H2O, 10?4, 10?2, 10?4, and 10?4; H+, Li+, and Na+1.5H2O, 10?2, 10?4, and 10?4; Na+1H2O, 10?5; H+, K+, and NH4+0.5H2O, all 10?5; and H+, Li+, Na+, K+, NH+4, and 12Ca2+OH2O, 10?5, 10?5, 10?4, 10?5, 10?5, and 10?6. A ring mechanism is proposed to account for the high conductivity found in NaUO2PO4 · 3.1H2O. The accurate TGA data showed that most of the hydrates had water vacancies of the Schottky type, and should be represented as MUO2PO4(A ? x)H2O, where x can be between 0 and 0.3.  相似文献

Condensation of 5-(p-nitrophenyl)-2-pentanone with phenylbiguanide hydrochloride (V) gave a 2-methyl-2-(p-nitrophenylpropyl)-1,2-dihydro-s-triazine (IX); hydrogenation of the nitro group to amino followed by bromoacetylation afforded the candidate irreversible inhibitor of dihydrofolic reductase, namely, 2-(p-bromoacetamidophenylpropyl)-4,6-diamino-1,2-dihydro-2-methyl-s-triazine hydrochloride (VIII). Similarly, the o, m, and p-isomers of 5-nitrophenoxy-2-pentanone were converted to the corresponding 2-(bromoacetamidophenoxypropyl)-1,2-dihydro-s-triazines (XI). The four candidate irreversible inhibitors were evaluated on the dihydrofolic reductases from pigeon liver, Walker-256 rat tumor, and L-1210/FR8 mouse leukemia. Only VIII was an irreversible inhibitor; VIII slowly inactivated the L-121-/FR8 mouse leukemia enzyme with a half-life of 2–3 hours at 37°, but VIII showed no inactivation of the other two dihydrofolic reductases—a species specific inactivation.  相似文献

The OH stretching region of water molecules in the vicinity of nonionic surfactant monolayers has been investigated using vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy (VSFS) under the polarization combinations ssp, ppp, and sps. The surface sensitivity of the VSFS technique has allowed targeting the few water molecules present at the surface with a net orientation and, in particular, the hydration shell around alcohol, sugar, and poly(ethylene oxide) headgroups. Dramatic differences in the hydration shell of the uncharged headgroups were observed, both in comparison to each another and in comparison to the pure water surface. The water molecules around the rigid glucoside and maltoside sugar rings were found to form strong hydrogen bonds, similar to those observed in tetrahedrally coordinated water in ice. In the case of the poly(ethylene oxide) surfactant monolayer a significant ordering of both strongly and weakly hydrogen bonded water was observed. Moreover, a band common to all the surfactants studied, clearly detected at relatively high frequencies in the polarization combinations ppp and sps, was assigned to water species located in proximity to the surfactant hydrocarbon tail phase, with both hydrogen atoms free from hydrogen bonds. An orientational analysis provided additional information on the water species responsible for this band.  相似文献

A sensitive, selective, and rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic procedure was developed for the determination of isoxicam in human plasma and urine. Acidified plasma or urine were extracted with toluene. Portions of the organic extract were evaporated to dryness, the residue dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (plasma) or acetonitrile (urine) and chromatographed on a mu Bondapak C18 column preceded by a 4-5 cm X 2 mm I.D. column packed with Corasil C18. Quantitation was obtained by UV spectrometry at 320 nm. Linearity in plasma ranged from 0.2 to 10 micrograms/ml. Recoveries from plasma samples seeded with 1.8, 4 and 8 micrograms/ml isoxicam were 1.86 +/- 0.077, 4.10 +/- 0.107 and 8.43 +/- 0.154 micrograms/ml with relative standard deviations of 3.3%, 2.5% and 5.4%, respectively. The linearity in urine ranged from 0.125 to 2 micrograms/ml. The precision of the method was 3.3-9.0% relative standard deviation over the linear range.  相似文献

A new metastable binary compound with the skutterudite crystal structure has been synthesized from modulated elemental reactants, through an amorphous intermediate, using a novel low-temperature synthesis technique. The amorphous reaction intermediate undergoes nucleation at 87 degrees C, an extremely low temperature for solid-state reactions. When heated above 350 degrees C, the metastable phase NiSb(3) disproportionates into the thermodynamically stable phases NiSb(2) and Sb. Also, if the sum of the individual elemental layer thicknesses is greater than 30 A, a mixture of different phases forms. Simulation of the high-angle powder X-ray diffraction spectrum confirms that NiSb(3) is isostructural with CoSb(3).  相似文献
