High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of bile acids in hamster bile

A high-performance liquid chromatographic procedure has been developed for the determination of pentamidine concentrations in serum samples. A microbore, reversed-phase column was used with a mobile phase consisting of methanol and water with sodium heptanesulfonate and triethylamine as modifiers. Pentamidine could be extracted from serum only by the addition of an ion-pairing agent, di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid, to the chloroform used for extraction. The method can be used to reliably detect levels as low as 5 ng/ml. The pentamidine concentration in the serum of eleven patients 24 h after their tenth daily dose of pentamidine averaged 60 +/- 34 ng/ml.

For the determination of trace elements in neutron irradiated, selenium by gamma-ray spectrometry the separation of the matrix activity is often necessary. In model experiments the decontamination of cation and anion impurities from the matrix solution was investigated by the counter current ion migration. After a processing of 3 hrs the trace activities of Co, Cr, Ga, Na and Zn were decontaminated from Se with a factor of >10³. For the trace elements As and Te representing the anionic constituents, a decontamination factor of 3·10² was obtained.     

On the tetrad theory of gravity

After reviewing problems which appear in the theory of teleparallelism (tetrad theory) based on a Lagrangian quadratic in the torsion, the possibility of adding higher-order terms is discussed. For a test Lagrangian,O(3)-symmetric vacuum solutions and spatially homogeneous and isotropic solutions are found. The latter contain nonsingular cosmological models.

An investigation has been carried out on the influence of the velocity of voltage change, of the radius of the capillary and of the size of the electrodes on the decrease of the peak current caused by back-diffusion in anodic amalgam voltammetry.     

Koordinationsformen des Eisen(III)-chlorids in Phosphoroxychlorid

Zusammenfassung In den roten Lösungen von Eisen(III)-chlorid in Phosphoroxychlorid ist die Koordinationszahl größer als 4; es liegt gleichzeitig Koordination von Phosphoroxychloridmolekeln und Assoziation der Eisen(III)-chlorideinheiten untereinander vor. Zusatz von Chloridionendonoren führt zur Bildung des Chlorokomplexes. UV-VIS and CD-spectroscopic investigations of intermolecular interactions of bile pigments with small proteins

Summary The intermolecular complex formation of bilirubin and biliverdin with two proteins (basic pancreatic trypsin inhibitor and lysozyme) were studied by optical and chiroptical methods. Evidence for specific intermolecular interactions of biliverdin with both proteins was found. Bilirubin forms a soluble complex only with lysozyme.

Zusammenfassung Die intermolekulare Komplexbildung von Bilirubin und Biliverdin mit zwei Proteinen (basischer pankreatischer Trypsininhibitor und Lysozym) wurden mittels optischer und chiroptischer Spektroskopie untersucht. Für Biliverdin konnten intermolekulare Wechselwirkungen mit beiden Proteinen nachgewiesen werden. Bilirubin bildet nur mit Lysozym einen löslichen Komplex.
