Application of spline functions for the smoothing of preliminary density curves (Churchill procedure)

The density curve of a photographic plate may be obtained following the Churchill procedure by way of a preliminary curve. This preliminary curve consists of many points and requires smoothing. The application of so-called Spline functions can solve this problem.

     

An asynchronous parallel newton method

A parallel Newton method is described for the minimization of a twice continuously differentiable uniformly convex functionF(x). The algorithm generates a sequence {x _j } which converges superlinearly to the global minimizer ofF(x).     

Transverse momentum distributions of hadrons produced in αα and αp collisions at the CERN intersecting storage rings

The inclusive production of charged hadrons has been measured in αα and αp collisions at nucleon-nucleon c.m. energies (√s_nn)of 31 and 44 GeV, respectively, for transverse momenta p_T up to 5 GeV/c in the central rapidity (y) region. at high p_T the yields are consistent with being 4 times and 16 times highere than the ones in pp interactions at y=0, for αp and αα interactions, respectively. However, an enhancement over these factors, as expected from an earlier FNAL experiment, cannot be ruled out.     

On the tri-n-octylammonium chlorocomplexes of Sn(IV) in benzene solution

Extracts with tri-n-octylammonium chlorocomplexes of Sn(IV) of various compositions, included the N-deuterated compounds, were prepared and investigated by IR spectroscopy and conductivity measurements. Three Sn(IV) complexes were found: (TOAH⁺)₂SnCl₆^2? (2:1-complex), TOAH⁺SnCl₅^? (1:1-complex) and a complex with the stoichiometric ratio TOA:Sn(IV) > 2. The cation of the latter contains the groups (TOAH…Cl…HTOA)⁺ and TOAH⁺ and that species is supposed to be a 3:1-complex (TOAH…Cl…HTOA)⁺TOAH⁺SnCl₆^2?.     

Synthesis of a versatile functionalized tetraquinane. Convenient access to 1,3-bishomopentaprismanedione

The tetracyclic diene dione 1 has been synthesized by a short oxidative decarboxylation route starting with the domino Diels-Alder adduct 2. Photocyclization of the bisketal of 1 was used to arrive expediently at 1,3-bishomopentaprismanedione (7).     

2H, 13C shift correlation as an analytical tool for the study of deuteriated carbon compounds

A chemical shift correlation experiment for ²H, ¹³C spin systems is described. Applications to the analysis of deuteriated carbon compounds are discussed and advantages over existing methods are pointed out.
