Controlling a bunch of multiple filaments by means of a beam diameter

We demonstrate a three orders of magnitude increase and stability in the backscattered fluorescence signal from nitrogen molecules by terawatt femtosecond laser pulse induced air filaments using a new method. The method is based on squeezing the initial beam diameter using a telescope. The effect of laser shot-to-shot fluctuations was included in numerical simulations by a random distribution of the initial intensity in both squeezed and non-squeezed beams. Statistical processing of the simulation results shows that the average diameter of plasma channels as well as the total amount of free electrons generated in a bunch of multiple filaments in air is larger in the squeezed beam. Shot-to-shot stability of the simulated plasma density increases in the squeezed beam. The change of this plasma density with propagation distance is in good qualitative agreement with the change of the range-corrected nitrogen fluorescence signal with distance. Precise measurement of magnetic moment of short-lived β-emitting nuclei12B ( I π=1+, T 1/2=20.18 ms)

The spin polarized β-emitting nuclei¹²B (I ^π=1⁺,T _1/2=20.18 ms) were produced by the nuclear reaction¹¹B(d, p)¹²B and by the selection technique of the incident deuteron energy and the¹²B recoil angle following the nuclear reaction. The nuclear magnetic moment of the short-lived nuclei¹²B was measured by β-NMR with the β-NMR and β-NQR setup established for the first time in China. The nuclear magnetic moment of¹²B was determined to be μ=0.99993±0.00048 nm org=0.99993±0.00048 after the precise correction of the Knight shift.     

Does the beam width affect the generalized M factor of hard-edged diffracted beams?

A detailed study of the generalized M² factor of hard-edged diffracted beams based on the truncated second-order moments method, asymptotic analysis and self-convergent beam width approach is performed. The dependence of the generalized M² factor on the parameters characterizing the spatial profile, and beam truncation, etc. is analyzed.

Structural effects of multiple-bonds on aggregating tendencies of long-chain esters

The kinetics of the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl esters of three types of single-chain carboxylic acids, namely, saturated, olefinic and acetylenic, was investigated in two aquiorgano binary solvent systems, DMSO-H₂O and dioxane (DX)-H₂O. The ester probes used are: octanoic (C8), dodecanoic (C12) , stearic (C18) , oleic (C18-ol) , elaidic (C18-el ) and stearolic (C18-st). The order of measured CAgC values is: C18-ol>C18-el>C18>C18-st, whereas the order of decreasing magnitude of the observed hydrolytic rate constants of the monomeric species (k_m) is: C18>C18-el>C18-ol> C18-st. These rather unanticipated results are discussed.     

In situ observation of NaBi(WO4)2 dendrite growth and the study on microstructure of solidification

The dendrite growth process of transparent NaBi(WO₄)₂ with small prandtl and high melting point was studied by using the in-situ observation system. According to the dynamic images and detailed information, there are two kinds of restriction effect on the dendrite growth, the competition between arms and branches and the convection in the melt. The dendrite growth rate was time dependent, and the rate of arm growth reached the maximum 5.8 mm/s in the diffusive-advective region and rapidly decreased in the diffusive-convective region. The growth rate of branch had the same change trends as the arm’s. Based on the EPMA-EDS data of solidification structure of quenched NaBi(WO₄)₂ melt, it was found that there were component differences from stoichiometric concentration in the melt near the interface during the growth process. Simplified analytic solutions and a novel fast algorithm for Yb-doped double-clad fiber lasers

In this paper, continuous wave Yb³⁺-doped double-clad fiber lasers (DCFLs) with linear-cavity are investigated theoretically and numerically using the rate equations. Under the steady state conditions, the simplified analytic solutions of Yb³⁺-doped DCFLs under considering the scattering loss are deduced in the strongly pump condition. Compared with the known analytic solutions in published literatures, our analytic solutions are more accurate, especially, at higher reflectivity of output mirror. In addition, a fast and stable algorithm based on the Newton-Raphson method is proposed to simulate numerically Yb³⁺-doped DCFLs. The results by simplified analytic solutions are in good agreement with those by the numerical simulation. Moreover, we have performed the optimization of an Yb³⁺-doped DCFL using the simplified analytic solutions and the numerical simulations, respectively.     

Studies on the method of total synthesis of koumine: I. 4-Substituted 1,2-dihydropyridine derivatives and their function as a conjugated diene in Diels-Alder reaction

A route to the total synthesis of koumine has been suggested. Five 4-substituted 1, 2-d hydropyridine derivatives, which are supposed to be a conjugated diene of Diels-Alder reaction to produce the isoquinuclidine ring of koumine, have been synthesized. Only two of them were found to be able to undergo the Diels-Alder reaction. The stereochemistry of the reaction product has also been examined.

CO-laser photoacoustic detection of phosgene (COCl2)

Detection of COCl₂, a highly toxic gas in chemical industry, using laser photoacoustic spectroscopy is presented. The spectrophone system used has a broad band LN₂ cooled CW CO laser as a source of radiation, which operates from 4.8–8.4 um in the mid-infrared. Using an extracavity open longitudinal resonant cell, absorption signals to about 30 CO laser lines in the 5.45 um region could be observed. detection sensitivity has been estimated to be ppb order.This work has been supported by the NSFC
