On a micro‐macro model for polymeric fluids near equilibrium

In this paper, we study a micro‐macro model for polymeric fluid. The system involves coupling between the macroscopic momentum equation and a microscopic evolution equation describing the combined effects of the microscopic potential and thermofluctuation. We employ an energetic variation procedure to explore the relation between the macroscopic transport of the particles and the induced elastic stress due to the microscopic structure. For the initial data not far from the equilibrium, we prove the global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the system. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Solvothermal synthesis of TiO2: anatase nanocrystals and rutile nanofibres from TiCl4 in acetone

This work reports a new synthetic approach for single‐phase TiO₂ nanomaterials by solvothermal treatment of titanium tetrachloride in acetone at 80–110 °C. Small, uniform, and yet size‐tunable (5–10 nm) anatase titania nanocrystallites were obtained using a low concentration of TiCl₄ in acetone (i.e., at molar ratios of TiCl₄/acetone ≤ 1:15) in the temperature range of 80–110 °C, while rutile nanofibers were synthesized using a high concentration of TiCl₄ (e.g., TiCl₄/acetone = 1:10) at 110 °C. The way of Diophantus: Some clarifications on Diophantus' method of solution

In the introduction of the Arithmetica Diophantus says that in order to solve arithmetical problems one has to “follow the way he (Diophantus) will show.” The present paper has a threefold objective. Firstly, the meaning of this sentence is discussed, the conclusion being that Diophantus had elaborated a program for handling various arithmetical problems. Secondly, it is claimed that what is analyzed in the introduction is definitions of several terms, the exhibition of their symbolism, the way one may operate with them, but, most significantly, the main stages of the program itself. And thirdly, it is argued that Diophantus' intention in the Arithmetica is to show the way the stages of his program should be practically applied in various arithmetical problems.
