Lithium wall coatings have been shown to reduce recycling, improve energy confinement, and suppress edge localized modes in the National Spherical Torus Experiment. Here, we show that these effects depend continuously on the amount of predischarge lithium evaporation. We observed a nearly monotonic reduction in recycling, decrease in electron transport, and modification of the edge profiles and stability with increasing lithium. These correlations challenge basic expectations, given that even the smallest coatings exceeded that needed for a nominal thickness of the order of the implantation range.  相似文献

Thermoelectric heat-to-power generation is an attractive option for robust and environmentally friendly renewable energy production. Historically, the performance of thermoelectric materials has been limited by low efficiencies, related to the thermoelectric figure-of-merit ZT. Nanostructuring thermoelectric materials have shown to enhance ZT primarily via increasing phonon scattering, beneficially reducing lattice thermal conductivity. Conversely, density-of-states (DOS) engineering has also enhanced electronic transport properties. However, successfully joining the two approaches has proved elusive. Herein, we report a thermoelectric materials system whereby we can control both nanostructure formations to effectively reduce thermal conductivity, while concurrently modifying the electronic structure to significantly enhance thermoelectric power factor. We report that the thermoelectric system PbTe-PbS 12% doped with 2% Na produces shape-controlled cubic PbS nanostructures, which help reduce lattice thermal conductivity, while altering the solubility of PbS within the PbTe matrix beneficially modifies the DOS that allow for enhancements in thermoelectric power factor. These concomitant and synergistic effects result in a maximum ZT for 2% Na-doped PbTe-PbS 12% of 1.8 at 800 K.  相似文献

A method for frequency-multiplexed multi-sample gas sensing is presented. It enables measuring multiple samples placed simultaneously in the setup, without any optical or mechanical switching. Samples are measured using heterodyne detection and signal from each sensing path is encoded at different carrier frequency. Subsequently, a signal from particular sample is retrieved through heterodyne beatnote demodulation at unique frequency. This technique is particularly suitable for real-time calibration of the sensor through a sequential (or simultaneous) detection of three signals: from unknown sample, reference sample and baseline. Basic setup is demonstrated and proof-of-concept experiments are presented. Very good agreement with spectra measured using standard tunable diode absorption spectroscopy is obtained.  相似文献

Two-phase quasi-periodic solutions of the sine-Gordon equation are discussed. It is shown that the solutions expressed by the multidimensional θ-function form a broader class than the well-known factorised solutions 4 arctan [f(u)g(v)]. 制备了五种对水稳定性好、带-SO3H官能团的磺酸类BrФnsted酸离子液体,用核磁共振(NMR)、红外光谱(IR)、电喷雾质谱(ESI-MS)、热重分析(TG)等表征手段对制备的离子液体进行了表征。结果表明,制备的离子液体与预期设计的结构一致,离子液体纯度大于95%;热重分析发现离子液体具有高的热稳定性和较宽的液态范围,其分解温度均高于300℃;五种离子液体均存在四种离子存在形式,H 可以单独以离子形式存在,并不是通常所认为的仅有两种离子存在形式。另外,研究了离子液体在常用溶剂中的溶解性,发现制备的离子液体易溶于水、甲醇,不溶于乙醚、甲苯和乙酸乙酯。  相似文献

This paper presents a preliminary study of a previously unreported phenomenon of the “gas driven granular jump”, observed in the gas–solids flow within the pneumatic conveying system. From the phenomenological point of view, it resembles the already known processes such as hydraulic jumps in shallow water or granular jumps in granular flows in chutes or avalanches (although it seems most appropriate to explain it by analogy to a propagating granular bore). Clearly, unlike in classical phenomena of this type, the flow itself is driven by the aerodynamic forces related to the gas flow and the behaviour of the front of the “jump” is modified significantly by their presence. A series of high-speed camera visualisations are presented, which focus on this unusual behaviour of the flow on the border-line between cluster and stratified flow regimes in a horizontal pipe. Some similarities are drawn between the observed phenomenon and the broader class of problems exhibiting transition between super- and sub-critical flows. The fluid dynamical aspects and possible mechanisms behind the new phenomenon are discussed and the results obtained are compared quantitatively with simple theoretical models.  相似文献

The results of buckling tests on circular cylinders heated uniformly along axial strips are presented and discussed. Calculations of critical temperature based upon the small-deflection theory for thin circular cylindrical shells are included and a comparison is made between theoretical and experimental results. Cylinders heated along axial strips of given widths have a theoretically predicted behaivor which corresponds reasonably well to the behavior obtained by experiment. Curves are included showing the variation of critical temperature with respect to heated axial-strip width.  相似文献

To assess the bacteria–antibiotic interactions in patients with postoperative wound infections, a simple electrophoretic test was performed. To estimate the effectiveness of the antibiotic therapy and to prepare 3‐day profiles of bacteria “quantity” in biological samples, CE was used. As our team demonstrated earlier, the method is easy and fast, sample pretreatment is not necessary, and it is characterized by high selectivity. Finally, the statistically optimal and significant results of the CZE test analysis for detection of Escherichia coli cells was established for migration time lower than 3.5 min. The obtained sensitivity and specificity amounted to 89.5 and 100%, respectively. It is the first application of CZE in the study of medical therapy.  相似文献
