This paper describes a novel implementation of a dual-frequency liquid crystal optical shutter of the guest–host type. The transmissive state of the filter is obtained by applying a low-frequency electric field that brings the dichroic dye in a homeotropic orientation. The light-absorbing state is realised by a twisted planar configuration for which the absorption is quasi-independent of the polarisation. Switching between the two states occurs in about 1 ms and the devices show no scattering for wavelengths inside or outside the absorption band of the dichroic dye. Simulations and experiments reveal how a twisted state is obtained through the backflow phenomenon.  相似文献

As part of our study of the mesomorphic properties of glucopyranosides containing fluorinated chains, this paper focuses on an investigation of the liquid crystalline behaviour of nonaromatic compounds. The synthesis of eight single-tailed materials which contain a semiperfluoroalkyl chain linked to the polar glucose head group is described. Using polarized optical microscopy, DSC and X-ray diffraction all the materials were found to show only monomesomorphism, a smectic A phase with bimolecular layers. The thermal behaviour is discussed in comparison with the previously reported data on the series of parent compounds.  相似文献

Thermal neutron activation analysis, a high-resolution Ge(Li) gamma-ray spectrometer, and an IBM 360/67 digital computer were used to determine the concentration of Na, K, Sc, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Se, Br, Rb, Sb, Cs, and Hg in ground coffee and tea. This nondestructive multielement technique requires neither pre- nor postirradiation chemistry and eliminates problems of reagent contamination. The method is simple, precise and sensitive to 15 elements. Interferences from fast neutron (n, p) and (n, α) reactions are small and, if necessary, corrections may be applied easily. This technique can be applied to percolated tea and coffee.  相似文献

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) has been successfully used for extracting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from porewater samples from the Mersey Estuary, UK. The majority of the PAHs in porewater samples are associated with colloids due to the high DOC concentrations. The truly dissolved PAH concentrations varied from 66 to 1050?ng?L?1 in core 2 and from 95 to 740?ng?L?1 in core 3, and were dominated by naphthalene, fluoranthene, and pyrene. Although absent in the dissolved phase, the high-molecular-mass compounds were found in the colloid-associated fraction of porewater. PAHs in sediments arose from a range of compounds with 4- and 5-ring PAHs dominating. The partitioning of PAHs between sediment and porewater shows that PAHs are enriched in the sediment phase. When the soot carbon content was considered, predictions of the partition behaviour were found to agree more closely with the observed distribution. The results reiterate the importance of evaluating the speciation of organic pollutants in both porewater and sediments in order to accurately predict their environmental fate and potential toxicity.  相似文献

The linear viscoelastic behavior in dynamic shear and tensile creep at temperatures from −30 to 70 °C is measured for an styrene–butadiene rubber (SBR) elastomer cured with dicumyl peroxide to crosslinking densities between 0 and 23.5 × 10−5 mol/cm3. The G′, G″, and tan δ isotherms are analyzed by time–temperature superposition (TTS), where the tan δ master curves are consistent with those of Mancke and Ferry. However, to achieve the TTS in the lightly crosslinked SBR systems, an anomalous vertical shift is required in the narrow temperature region from 10 to 30 °C. The vertical shift factor in this temperature region is not the standard from rubber elasticity. No anomalous behavior is detected in the equilibrium modulus, which is a linear function of temperature in accordance with the classical theory of rubber elasticity. In contrast to SBR, standard vertical shifts are required to effect TTS for uncrosslinked polybutadiene and an ethylene propylene diene monomer elastomer. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The computational determination of binding modes for a ligand into a protein receptor is much more successful than the prediction of relative binding affinities (RBAs) for a set of ligands. Here we consider the binding of a set of 26 synthetic A-CD ligands into the estrogen receptor ERα. We show that the MOE default scoring function (London dG) used to rank the docked poses leads to a negligible correlation with experimental RBAs. However, switching to an energy-based scoring function, using a multiple linear regression to fit experimental RBAs, selecting top-ranked poses and then iteratively repeating this process leads to exponential convergence in 4–7 iterations and a very strong correlation. The method is robust, as shown by various validation tests. This approach may be of general use in improving the quality of predicted binding affinities.  相似文献

β-D-Glucosides of pyromeconic acid (3-hydroxy-4-oxo-4H-pyran), maltol (3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-oxo-4H-pyran) and α-hydroxymaltol (3-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-4-oxo-4H-pyran) were synthesized in one pot by reaction of stoichiometric amounts of acetobromoglucose and preformed hydroxypyrone anion followed by catalytic deacetylation with methanolic KOH. Products were identified and characterized by comparison of mp and molar rotation with literature, and by FAB-MS, negative ferric chloride test, and H-1 and C-13 NMR. All glycosides were levorotatory, beta and gave recognizable pseudo-molecular ions.  相似文献

Per- and poly-substituted oligosaccharide derivatives, with trehalose cores, have been prepared and assessed for their potential for use as excipients in controlled-release formulations. The synthesized compounds, generally with acyl and amido substituents, included 6,6′-N,N′ -diamido-6,6′ -dideoxy-α,α -trehalose derivatives, 6,6′ -bis(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-β -D-glucopyranuronyl)-α, α -trehalose derivatives, 2,2′,3,3′ -tetra-O-acetyl-6,6′ -bis-(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucopyranuronyl)-4,4′ -di-O-acyl-α,α-trehalose, 2, 2′, 3, 3′ -tetra-O-acetyl-6-(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucopyranuronyl)-4,4′,6′ -tri-O-acyl-α,α-trehalose, and 2,2′,3,3′,4,4′ -hexa-O-acetyl-6,6′ -bis-(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-6-O-succinyl-β-D-glucopyranuronyl)-α,α-trehalose. Compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, MS and optical rotations; elemental analyses; or HRMS. The compounds formed amorphous materials either on fast quenching of melts or on spray drying. Properties, used in the initial assessment of the potential as controlled-release excipients, were log10 P and glass transition, Tg, values.  相似文献

Abstract

N,N'-Diacetyl-tri-O-acetylxylaramide (8) and N,N'-diacetyl-tri-O-acetylribaramide (20) were directly converted to the nitrogen heterocycle 6-acetamido-2,6-diacetyloxy-aza-1,4-cyclohexadlen-3-one (9) with sodium acetate in acetic anhydride. Treatment of tri-O-acetylxylaramide (7) or tri-O-acetylribaramide (19) with the same solvent-base combination gave the highly crystalline 2,3,5,6-tetraacetyloxypyridlne (30) as the principal product. Mechanistic considerations for the formation of these nitrogen heterocycles are presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Synthesis of the terminal trisaccharide sequence of the ganglioside GD3, α-D-Neup5Ac-(2→8)-α-D-Neup5Ac-(2→3)-β-D-Galp-(1→4)-β-D-Glcp-(1→1)-Cer (2) was achieved by employing an α-(2→8) disialyl glycosyl donor (1). Condensation of 1 with the glycosyl acceptor 6, propyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-β-D-galactopyranoside, gave the desired protected trisaccharide 10 (14%) as well as the elimination and hydrolysis products of 6, compounds 8 and 9 respectively. O-Deacetylation and debenzylation of 10 gave the final trisaccharide 11, as its propyl glycoside.  相似文献
