The convenient route to cd fragment for the synthesis of vitamin D3 relatives

The efficient degradation of $\text{1}$ to the α-methylene ketone $\text{4}$ is described. Compound $\text{4}$ was then converted to the allylic alcohol $\text{8a}$ - the precursor of vitamin D³ relatives.     

N-Vinyl as N-H protecting group. Synthesis of cyclic imines from N-vinyllactams and organolithium reagents

On reaction with organolithium reagents followed by hydrolysis and distillation, N-vinylpyrrolidone ( 1 ) gives five-membered ring imines 3-8 , whereas N-vinylcaprolactam ( 2 ) gives mixtures of seven-membered ring imines and the corresponding ∈-amino ketones.     

Conformational equilibria and photoinduced tautomerization in 2-(2′-pyridyl)pyrrole

Depending on the polarity and protic abilities of the solvent, 2-(2′-pyridyl)pyrrole can exist in either syn or anti rotameric forms. In nonpolar solvents, intramolecular excited state single proton transfer is observed, manifested by the appearance of low-energy tautomeric emission. The solvent-assisted excited state double proton transfer reaction is also detected. DFT calculations confirm low barriers for both single and double proton transfer processes in the lowest excited singlet state and show different character of the tautomerization in both cases: in the intramolecular reaction, mutual approach of two nitrogen atoms plays an important role.     

Direct asymmetric aldol-Tishchenko reaction of aliphatic ketones catalyzed by syn-aminoalcohol-Yb(III) complexes

The asymmetric direct aldol condensation of aldehydes with ethyl- and propylketones is catalyzed by syn-alpha-aminoalcohol-Yb(OTf)3 complexes, yielding the anti-1,3-diol monoesters with high diastereocontrol and good enantioselectivity. Three adjacent stereogenic centers are created in a simultaneous aldol condensation and Evans-Tishchenko reduction in an acyclic system.

Thioacetylacetone: structural and vibrational assignments.

Thioacetylacetone and its variously deuterated isotopomers have been investigated using electronic and vibrational spectroscopy combined with quantum chemical calculations. Thioacetylacetone is known for its photochromic properties, but the structures of the initial and final forms have been the subject of a long debate. Analysis of the IR spectra recorded in low-temperature argon and xenon matrices, room-temperature solutions, and in the gas phase has allowed us to establish the nature of the photochromic species and of its precursor. Similar to the case of another beta-thioxoketone, monothiodibenzoylmethane, the photo-product has been assigned to the nonchelated SH exo-rotamer of the (Z)-enethiol tautomeric form, whereas the dominant ground-state species corresponds to the chelated (Z)-enol tautomeric form. Detailed vibrational assignments have been proposed for both forms based on quantum chemical calculations and polarization experiments. In the case of the chelated (Z)-enol species prevailing in the ground state, a second-order perturbative anharmonic analysis at the B3LYP/cc-pVTZ level indicated strong anharmonic effects associated with the intramolecular hydrogen bond, leading to a shift of more than 600 cm-1 of the wavenumber of the OH-stretching vibration. A small fraction of the SH endo-rotameric chelated (Z)-enethiol form was also detected under unperturbed conditions. The (Z)-enethiol form can be converted into the (Z)-enol form by irradiation at 290 nm.     

An efficient reagent for the phosphorylation of deoxyribonucleosides, DNA oligonucleotides, and their thermolytic analogues

[reaction: see text] The phosphoramidite 11 was prepared in three steps from methyl 2-mercaptoacetate and demonstrated efficiency in the synthesis of conventional 5'-/3'-phosphate/thiophosphate monoester derivatives of 2'-deoxyribonucleosides and DNA oligonucleotides. Moreover, the use of 11 has enabled the preparation of the dinucleoside phosphorothioate analogue 26 in high yields (>95%) with minimal cleavage (<2%) of the thermolytic thiophosphate protecting group.     

Pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry of cured phenolic resins

A previously described pyrolysis device with a movable reaction zone was used in the present work for thermal degradation of cured novolac and resol resins. After the pyrolysis the usual major components were identified, as well as relatively low-volatile aromatic compounds which were revealed after their separation in a capillary chromatographic column. Among the latter components, for both types of cured resins, xanthene and its methyl derivatives were found. The isomers of bis(hydroxyphenyl)methane were found in considerable quantities only in the case of partially cured novolac resins which contained any linear sequences in their structure.     

The magnetizability of excited-state hydrogen: temperature-independent paramagnetism in the B1Σ+u state

Components, of the magnetizability tensor for the B¹Σ⁺_u and a ³Σ⁺_g states ot the hydrogen molecule have been calculated for fixed bond lengths near equilibrium. Explicitly correlated “generalised James-Coolidge” type wavefunctions were used. It is found thilt in the B 1Σ⁺_u state the molecular magnetizability is a positive quantity.
