Thermal Characterizations of Inorganic and Organometallic Polymers

This review emphasizes the breadth of metallic and metallic-like polymers evaluated as to thermal properties. Techniques usefully applied to particular systems are noted with the aim of suggesting their application to other systems.     

Synthesis of a Novel Dispiroheterocyclic Framework via the Regioselective 1,3‐Dipolar Cycloaddition Reaction of Azomethine Ylides

2‐Arylidene‐1,3‐indanediones undergo regioselective 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition with the azomethine ylide generated from acenaphthenequinone and sarcosine to afford a rare class of complex dispiropyrrolidines in good yield. Single‐crystal X‐ray crystal analysis of one of the products confirms the structure and regiochemistry of the cycloaddition.     

Green Enzymatic Synthesis of L-Ascorbyl Fatty Acid Ester: An Antioxidant

In green chemistry, biocatalysis using microwaves is a very attractive tool for various regioselective syntheses. L-Ascorbyl fatty acid esters were synthesized by an immobilized lipase from Bulkholderia multivorans using microwaves, with a dynamically enhanced rate of reaction and appreciable yield of around 80%. Microwave radiation had no effect on enzymic inactivation, however, synergism between microwaves and biocatalyst was observed.     

Oxidative Deoximation with Sodium Perborate1

An efficient and convenient conversion of oximes to corresponding carbonyl compounds with sodium perborate in glacial acetic acid is reported.     

A Novel Synthesis of 5-Aryltropoxe Derivatives

The reaction of substituted arylboronic acids with 5-bromo-2-methoxytropone catalyzed by palladium(0) complex furnished 5-arylated tropone derivatives in good yield.     

Gold nanoparticle-decorated keggin ions/TiO2 photococatalyst for improved solar light photocatalysis

We demonstrate a facile localized reduction approach to synthesizing a Au nanoparticle-decorated Keggin ion/TiO(2) photococatalyst for improved solar light photocatalysis application. This has been achieved by exploiting the ability of TiO(2)-bound Keggin ions to act as a UV-switchable, highly localized reducing agent. Notably, the approach proposed here does not lead to contamination of the resultant cocatalyst with free metal nanoparticles during aqueous solution-based synthesis. The study shows that for Keggin ions (phosphotungstic acid, PTA), being photoactive molecules, the presence of both Au nanoparticles and PTA on the TiO(2) surface in a cocatalytic system can have a dramatic effect on increasing the photocatalytic performance of the composite system, as opposed to a TiO(2) surface directly decorated with metal nanoparticles without a sandwiched PTA layer. The remarkable increase in the photocatalytic performance of these materials toward the degradation of a model organic Congo red dye correlates to an increase of 2.7-fold over that of anatase TiO(2) after adding Au to it and 4.3-fold after introducing PTA along with Au to it. The generalized localized reduction approach to preparing TiO(2)-PTA-Au cocatalysts reported here can be further extended to other similar systems, wherein a range of metal nanoparticles in the presence of different Keggin ions can be utilized. The composites reported here may have wide potential implications toward the degradation of organic species and solar cell applications.     

Lanthanum(III) Nitrate Hexahydrate: A Versatile Reagent for the Synthesis of Bis(indolyl) Methanes under Solvent‐Free Conditions

A mild and efficient synthesis of bis(indolyl) methanes by the reaction of indoles with various aldehydes at room temperature in the presence of a catalytic amount of a La(NO₃)₃ · 6H₂O afforded the corresponding bis(indolyl) methanes in excellent yields under solvent‐free conditions.     

A Facile and Alternative Method for the Synthesis of Mefloquine

A convenient and facile synthesis of Meflo-quine, based on sulphoxide-Grignard approach is described.

     

Pyridine-catalyzed addition of diaryl-1,2-diones to dimethyl butynedioate leading to the formation of 1,2-diaroyl dimethyl maleates via an unprecedented rearrangement

[reaction: see text] Pyridine catalyzes the reaction of 1,2-diaryl diones with dimethyl butynedioate to afford diaroyl maleates. This unprecedented rearrangement involves a unique benzoyl migration and proceeds with complete stereoselectivity.
