A multiscale investigation of the degradation mechanism of two epoxy systems exposed to electron‐beam irradiation under a helium atmosphere was carried out with a variety of analytical methods, including high‐resolution solution‐ and solid‐state NMR spectroscopy, NMR relaxometry, infrared spectroscopy, sterical exclusion chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry. As a first step, we studied a linear phenoxy polymer, poly(2‐hydroxyether of bisphenol A), which provided a basis for the investigation of the degradation of a more complex, insoluble epoxy–amine network, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/triethylene tetramine. Among different structural modifications, the main degradation process was shown to produce in both cases a chain scission. For the phenoxy resin, the hydroxypropylidene moiety was identified as the fragile site leading to the formation of two phenolic chain ends and acetone and isopropyl alcohol as low‐molecular‐weight products. All methods, ranging from molecular to supramolecular scales, were shown to correlate both qualitatively and quantitatively. Experimental results obtained with diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/triethylene tetramine evidenced a different degradation scheme occurring at the ethylene amine part and producing a dangling vinyl amine as the major degradation product. A selective increase in the molecular mobility at this site was confirmed by a two‐dimensional, local‐field wide‐line separation experiment. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article is devoted to the study of the photoaging and thermal aging of poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MDMO–PPV; also called OC1C10–PPV) used in organic solar cells. Thin MDMO–PPV films (thickness < 1 μm) were exposed to ultraviolet‐light irradiation (λ > 300 nm) in the presence of air or thermooxidized at 60 °C. The modifications of the chemical structure of the matrix were analyzed with ultraviolet–visible and infrared spectroscopy. The oxidation products that formed were identified by postirradiation treatments, including chemical derivatization reactions. On the basis of the identification of the various products formed, a two‐step radical mechanism is proposed to account for the modification of the chemical structure of the polymeric matrix. It involves first the oxidation of the ether substituent followed by the oxidation of the double bonds. These reactions are responsible for a loss of conjugation of MDMO–PPV, chain scissions, and a decrease in the visible absorbance, which are anticipated to drastically impair the photovoltaic properties of the material. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study is devoted to the influence of water on the mechanisms of photooxidation of anticorrosion coatings based on epoxy resins used in extremely aggressive media like the marine environment. The two principal environmental parameters to be considered are sunlight (UV-light) and water. It is important to understand the role of these two environmental parameters on the ageing of epoxy anticorrosion coatings. On the basis of the effect of photooxidation on the molecular structure under “dry” conditions, water was introduced into the ageing process with either alternating cycles of irradiation/immersion in water or simultaneously by irradiation of the polymer in water. The presence of water had two effects on the photodegradation of PKHJ® phenoxy resin; the first one was on the degradation of the main photoproduct (phenyl formates) formed during irradiation through a hydrolysis reaction leading to the release of formic acid. The second effect consisted of an increase in the photooxidation rate by the formation of photo-initiators.  相似文献

Background  

The hippocampus is essential for declarative memory synthesis and is a core pathological substrate for Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common aging-related dementing disease. Acute increases in plasma cortisol are associated with transient hippocampal inhibition and retrograde amnesia, while chronic cortisol elevation is associated with hippocampal atrophy. Thus, cortisol levels could be monitored and managed in older people, to decrease their risk of AD type hippocampal dysfunction. We generated an in silicomodel of the chronic effects of elevated plasma cortisol on hippocampal activity and atrophy, using the systems biology mark-up language (SBML). We further challenged the model with biologically based interventions to ascertain if cortisol associated hippocampal dysfunction could be abrogated.  相似文献

Relevant equivalent circuit parameters and values of material constants of a piezoelectric resonator can be determined from measurements of its electrical input impedance as a function of frequency. The complex electrical impedance curves and the associated critical frequencies are the basis of this characterization by the piezoelectric resonance method. In this paper, the previously introduced concept of normalized electrical impedance of the lossy resonator, extended to include piezoelectric losses, is applied to the analysis of the effects of different types of intrinsic losses on peak values, bandwidths and characteristic frequencies. The resulting impedance patterns depend solely on the electromechanical coupling coefficient and the loss tangents, providing a useful tool for the analysis of low-Q resonators. The normalized impedance is experimentally evaluated from the basic data provided by an HP 4194A impedance analyser by means of specifically developed ASP programs.  相似文献

The influence of a non-halogenated intumescent fire retardant on the photooxidation of polypropylene is reported. The photooxidation of polypropylene stabilised with a phenolic antioxidant and two redox antioxidants (HALS), without and with the flame retardant has been studied. The chemical modifications resulting from UV-light exposure with wavelengths above 300 nm in the presence of oxygen were followed by IR and UV-visible spectroscopies. Special attention was given to the influence of each component on the rate of oxidation of the polymeric matrix. The photooxidation of the fire-retarded polymer can be described by two independent phenomena: the photooxidation of the intumescent agent and the photooxidation of the polymer. The results obtained offer new insight in the formulation of stabilised fire-retarded PP for outdoors applications.  相似文献
