We present an alternative scheme of finding apparent horizons based on spectral methods applied to Robinson–Trautman spacetimes. We have considered distinct initial data such as representing the spheroids of matter and the head-on collision of two non-rotating black holes. The evolution of the apparent horizon is presented. We have obtained in some cases a mass gap between the final Bondi and apparent horizon masses, whose implications were briefly commented in the light of the thermodynamics of black holes.  相似文献

Compared to other volatile carbonylic compounds present in outdoor air, formaldehyde (CH(2)O) is the most toxic, deserving more attention in terms of indoor and outdoor air quality legislation and control. The analytical determination of CH(2)O in air still presents challenges due to the low-level concentration (in the sub-ppb range) and its variation with sampling site and time. Of the many available analytical methods for carbonylic compounds, the most widespread one is the time consuming collection in cartridges impregnated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine followed by the analysis of the formed hydrazones by HPLC. The present work proposes the use of polypropylene hollow porous capillary fibers to achieve efficient CH(2)O collection. The Oxyphan fiber (designed for blood oxygenation) was chosen for this purpose because it presents good mechanical resistance, high density of very fine pores and high ratio of collection area to volume of the acceptor fluid in the tube, all favorable for the development of air sampling apparatus. The collector device consists of a Teflon pipe inside of which a bundle of polypropylene microporous capillary membranes was introduced. While the acceptor passes at a low flow rate through the capillaries, the sampled air circulates around the fibers, impelled by a low flow membrane pump (of the type used for aquariums ventilation). The coupling of this sampling technique with the selective and quantitative determination of CH(2)O, in the form of hydroxymethanesulfonate (HMS) after derivatization with HSO(3)(-), by capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CE-C(4)D) enabled the development of a complete analytical protocol for the CH(2)O evaluation in air.  相似文献

The oxidative folding mechanism in the intermembrane space of human mitochondria underpins a disulfide relay system consisting of the import receptor Mia40 and the homodimeric FAD-dependent thiol oxidase ALR. The flavoprotein ALR receives two electrons per subunit from Mia40, which are then donated through one-electron reactions to two cytochrome c molecules, thus mediating a switch from two-electron to one-electron transfer. We dissect here the mechanism of the electron flux within ALR, characterizing at the atomic level the ALR intermediates that allow electrons to rapidly flow to cytochrome c. The intermediate critical for the electron-transfer process implies the formation of a specific inter-subunit disulfide which exclusively allows electron flow from Mia40 to FAD. This finding allows us to present a complete model for the electron-transfer pathway in ALR.  相似文献

Three-ring circus! Surprisingly complex molecular acrobatics are observed in the mechanism of the α-ketoacid-hydroxylamine amide-forming ligation reaction. A double‐zero quantum (DZQ)‐refocused INADEQUATE experiment is introduced for J‐based NMR correlations under ultra‐fast (60 kHz) magic angle spinning (MAS). The experiment records two spectra in the same dataset, a double quantum–single quantum (DQ‐SQ) and zero quantum–single quantum (ZQ‐SQ) spectrum, whereby the corresponding signals appear at different chemical shifts in ω1. Furthermore, the spin‐state selective excitation (S3E) J‐decoupling block is incorporated in place of the second refocusing echo of the INADEQUATE scheme, providing an additional gain in sensitivity and resolution. The two sub‐spectra acquired in this way can be treated separately by a shearing transformation, producing two diagonal‐free single quantum (SQ‐SQ)‐type spectra, which are subsequently recombined to give an additional sensitivity enhancement, thus offering an improvement greater than a factor of two as compared to the original refocused INADEQUATE experiment. The combined DZQ scheme retains transverse magnetization on the initially polarized (I) spin, which typically exhibits a longer transverse dephasing time (T2′) than its through‐bond neighbour (S). By doing so, less magnetization is lost during the refocusing periods in the sequence to give even further gains in sensitivity for the J correlations. The experiment is demonstrated for the correlation between the carbonyl (CO) and alpha (CA) carbons in a microcrystalline sample of fully protonated, [15N,13C]‐labelled CuII, ZnII superoxide dismutase, and its efficiency is discussed with respect to other J‐based schemes.  相似文献

Microfluidic flow cells combined with an interdigitated array (IDA) electrode and/or individually driven interdigitated electrodes were fabricated and characterized for application as detectors for flow injection analysis. The gold electrodes were produced by a process involving heat transfer of a toner mask onto the gold surface of a CD-R and etching of the toner-free gold region by short exposure to iodine-iodide solution. The arrays of electrodes with individual area of 0.01 cm2 (0.10 cm of length × 0.10 cm of width and separated by gaps of 0.05 or 0.03 cm) were assembled in microfluidic flow cells with 13 or 19 μm channel depth. The electrochemical characterization of the cells was made by voltammetry under stationary conditions and the influence of experimental parameters related to geometry of the channels and electrodes were studied by using K4Fe(CN)6 as model system. The obtained results for peaks currents (Ip) are in excellent agreement with the expected ones for a reversible redox system under stationary thin-layer conditions. Two different configurations of the working electrodes, Ei, auxiliary electrode, A, and reference electrode, R, on the chip were examined: Ei/R/A and R/Ei/A, with the first presenting certain uncompensated resistance. This is because the potentiostat actively compensates the iR drop occurring in the electrolyte thin layer between A and R, but not from R to each Ei. This is confirmed by the smaller difference between the cathodic and anodic peak potentials for the second configuration. Evaluation of the microfluidic flow cells combined with (individually driven) interdigitated array electrodes as biamperometric or amperometric detectors for FIA reveals stable and reproducible operation, with peak heights presenting relative standard deviations of less than 2.2%. For electrochemically reversible species, FIA peaks with enhanced current signal were obtained due to redox cycling under flow operation. The versatility of microfluidic flow cells, produced by simple and low-cost technique, associated with the rich information content of electrochemical techniques with arrays of electrodes, opens many future research and application opportunities.  相似文献

SERS you right: The plasmon heating of gold nanoshells is exploited to yield the local conversion of amorphous TiO2 into anatase on the surface of polymeric colloidal crystals (see scheme). The resulting Au/TiO2 spots are active substrates for surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy and allow surface reactions and processes to be followed directly on‐site.
