Internal Rotation of the Methyl Group in Cations of Toluene Derivatives

The potential of the internal rotation of the methyl group was determined for o-, m-, and p-fluorotoluene cations by pulsed field ionization spectroscopy. The potential of the internal rotational motion was also surveyed for other toluene derivative cations. It was found that the barrier height generally increases by ionization. The increase in the barrier height has been discussed in connection with the reduction of the internal rotational constant B by ionization. The geometrical distortion of the methyl group during the internal rotation has been suggested.     

Spacetime correlation functions of dynamic speckles produced by a series of moving phase screens

Spacetime correlation functions of the time-varying speckle intensity have been evaluated for the case where speckle patterns are produced in the Fresnel diffraction region by light propagating through a series of moving random-phase screens. The correlation functions are given by a set of recursion formulae which are useful for numerical computations. Three statistical quantities relating to the motion of speckle patterns are derived to examine the relationship between the velocity distribution of the phase screens and the temporal behaviour of resultant speckle patterns. It is found that the velocity differences between the phase screens have a strong effect on both the decorrelation of speckle patterns and the fluctuating speed of the speckle intensity.     

Radical copolymerization of 2‐trifluoromethylacrylic monomers. II. Kinetics,monomer reactivities,and penultimate effect in their copolymerization with norbornenes and vinyl ethers

Radical copolymerizations of electron‐deficient 2‐trifluoromethylacrylic (TFMA) monomers, such as 2‐trifluoromethylacrylic acid and t‐butyl 2‐trifluoromethylacrylate (TBTFMA), with electron‐rich norbornene derivatives and vinyl ethers with 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator were investigated in detail through the analysis of the kinetics in situ with ¹H NMR and through the determination of the monomer reactivity ratios. The norbornene derivatives used in this study included bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐2‐ene (norbornene) and 5‐(2‐trifluoromethyl‐1,1,1‐trifluoro‐2‐hydroxylpropyl)‐2‐norbornene. The vinyl ether monomers were ethyl vinyl ether, t‐butyl vinyl ether, and 3,4‐dihydro‐2‐H‐pyran. Vinylene carbonate was found to copolymerize with TBTFMA. Although none of the monomers underwent radical homopolymerization under normal conditions, they copolymerized readily, producing a copolymer containing 60–70 mol % TFMA. The copolymerization of the TFMA monomer with norbornenes and vinyl ethers deviated from the terminal model and could be described by the penultimate model. The copolymers of TFMA reported in this article were evaluated as chemical amplification resist polymers for the emerging field of 157‐nm lithography. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Applications of inversion formulas to the joint t-universality of Lerch zeta functions

In this paper, we define λ-joint, a^′-joint, (λ,λ)-joint, (λ,a^′)-joint and (a^′,a^′)-joint t-universality of Lerch zeta functions and consider the relations among those. Next we show the existence of (λ,λ)-joint t-universality. Finally, we also show the existence of λ-joint, a^′-joint, (λ,a^′)-joint and (a^′,a^′)-joint t-universality by using inversion formulas.     

Stability of the steady state for the Falk model system of shape memory alloys

In this article a stability result for the Falk model system is proven. The Falk model system describes the martensitic phase transitions in shape memory alloys. In our setting, the steady state is a nonlocal elliptic problem. We show the dynamical stability for the linearized stable critical point of the corresponding functional. A convergent synthesis of the key synthetic intermediate of hemibrevetoxin B was achieved via the intramolecular allylation of an α-chloroacetoxy ether and subsequent ring-closing metathesis.     

On simultaneous confidence intervals for all contrasts in the means of the intraclass correlation model with missing data

In this paper, we consider simultaneous confidence intervals for all contrasts in the means when the observations are missing at random in the intraclass correlation model. An exact test statistic for the equality of the means and Scheffé, Bonferroni and Tukey types of simultaneous confidence intervals are given by an extension of Bhargava and Srivastava [On Tukey's confidence intervals for the contrasts in the means of the intraclass correlation model, J. Royal Statist. Soc. B35 (1973) 147-152] when the missing observations are of the monotone type. Finally, numerical results of simultaneous confidence intervals are presented.     

On spectra of doubly regular asymmetric digraphs ofRH-type

Spectra of doubly regular asymmetric digraph of regular Hadamard type are determined.
