Conformation and Atropisomeric Properties of Indometacin Derivatives

The stereochemistry around the N‐benzoylated indole moiety of indometacin was studied by restricting the rotation about the N? C7′ and/or C7′? C1′ bond. In the 2′,6′‐disubstituted ones, an atropisomeric property was found and the atropoisomers were separated and isolated as stable forms. Their biological abilities to inhibit cyclooxygenase‐1 (COX‐1) and cyclooxygenase‐2 (COX‐2) were examined. Only the aR‐isomer showed specific inhibition of COX‐1, and COX‐2 was not inhibited by either atropisomer. Conformational analysis in NMR studies and X‐ray crystallography, and CD spectra in combination with calculations were utilized to elucidate the bioactive conformations.     

Tubular structures bearing channels in organic crystals composed of adamantane-based macrocycles

Five macrocyclic molecules (1–5) were efficiently synthesized from the dimerization and trimerization of di-substituted adamantane derivatives, which were composed of three different aromatic units and two different linker groups. Three single-crystals were obtained from these macrocyclic molecules, including a set of pseudopolymorphs (3a and 3b) of macrocycle 3 and another macrocycle 5 (5a). Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the three monocyclic compounds were rectangular or square in shape with solvent molecules in the cavity. Macrocycle 3 in 3a formed stacks to produce tubular structures with channels that assembled into three-dimensional networks through CH/π interactions.

Progress of Jinping Underground laboratory for Nuclear Astrophysics (JUNA)

Jinping Underground laboratory for Nuclear Astrophysics(JUNA) will take the advantage of the ultra-low background of CJPL lab and high current accelerator based on an ECR source and a highly sensitive detector to directly study for the first time a number of crucial reactions occurring at their relevant stellar energies during the evolution of hydrostatic stars. In its first phase, JUNA aims at the direct measurements of~(25)Mg(p,γ)~(26)Al,~(19)F(p,α)~(16)O,~(13)C(α,n)~(16)O and ~(12)C(α,γ)~(16)O reactions. The experimental setup,which includes an accelerator system with high stability and high intensity, a detector system, and a shielding material with low background, will be established during the above research. The current progress of JUNA will be given.     

An efficient method for 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinium ion formation,leading to a facile introduction of nucleophiles

The ketene silyl acetal derived from ethyl 2-benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline-1-carboxylate undergoes a rapid oxidation reaction with N-bromosuccinimide to form 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinium ion, which reacts with Grignard reagents to give 1,1-disubstituted tetrahydroisoquinolines in good yields.
