On the reversibility of stripping reactions

The basis for the equivalence of prior and post forms of the T-matrix in both the Born and the distorted wave Born approximations is here studied in a one-dimensional model that facilitates clarification of some of the underlying mechanism. One sees how important it is that changes in the wave functions bring it about that averages of different perturbing potentials over different regions can still be equal. The post form commonly employed for a (d, p) reaction makes it seem at first sight that the potential stripping the deuteron apart is the potential that holds it together. The prior form DWBA has as a perturbation the intuitively appealing interaction responsible for the classical break-up of the deuteron and contributing to the “surface reaction” nature of stripping.     

Self‐assembly and Cycling of a Three‐state PdxLy Metallosupramolecular System

The use of stimuli to induce reversible structural transformations in metallosupramolecular systems is of keen interest to chemists seeking to mimic the way that Nature effects conformational changes in biological machinery. While a wide array of stimuli have been deployed towards this end, stoichiometric changes have only been explored in a handful of examples. Furthermore, switching has generally been between only two distinct states. Here we use a simple 2‐(1‐(pyridine‐4‐methyl)‐1H‐1,2,3‐triazol‐4‐yl)pyridine “click” ligand in combination with Pd^II in various stoichiometries and concentrations to quantitatively access and cycle between three distinct species: a [PdL₂]²⁺ monomer, a [Pd₂L₂]⁴⁺ dimer, and a [Pd₉L₁₂]¹⁸⁺ cage.     

A note on the microdetermination of chlorine in organic compounds

Summary A method previously described for the determination of halogen in organic compounds has been modified to make it more suitable for the determination of chlorine.

Enhancing U(eff) in oxime-bridged [Mn(III)6Ln(III)2] hexagonal prisms

The first 3d-4f clusters built using derivatised salicylaldoximes (R-saoH(2)) describe unusual hexagonal prisms. Replacement of the paramagnetic Gd(III) ions with diamagnetic Ln(III) ions allows for a more thorough understanding of the magnetic properties, whilst replacement with Tb(III) doubles U(eff).     

Logarithmic Sobolev Inequalities for Infinite Dimensional Hörmander Type Generators on the Heisenberg Group

The Heisenberg group is one of the simplest sub-Riemannian settings in which we can define non-elliptic Hörmander type generators. We can then consider coercive inequalities associated to such generators. We prove that a certain class of nontrivial Gibbs measures with quadratic interaction potential on an infinite product of Heisenberg groups satisfy logarithmic Sobolev inequalities.
