Maximum Principle for the Regularized Schrödinger Operator

In this paper we present analogues of the maximum principle and of some parabolic inequalities for the regularized time-dependent Schrödinger operator on open manifolds using Günter derivatives. Moreover, we study the uniqueness of bounded solutions for the regularized Schrödinger–Günter problem and obtain the corresponding fundamental solution. Furthermore, we present a regularized Schrödinger kernel and prove some convergence results. Finally, we present an explicit construction for the fundamental solution to the Schrödinger–Günter problem on a class of conformally flat cylinders and tori.

Vinigrol: a compact, diene-transmissive Diels-Alder strategy to the tricyclic core

A short (six steps from 17), versatile route to the tricyclic core of Vinigrol is described. A Lewis acid catalyzed and self-assembled Diels-Alder (LACASA-DA) reaction from the homoallylic cross-conjugated trienol 15 with N-methylmaleimide afforded the monoadduct 17 with diastereo-, regio-, and chemoselective control. Oxidation and installation of an acetylene (Ohira's reagent) followed by further manipulations afforded trienone 24. The second intramolecular Diels-Alder (at 45 degrees C) reaction assembled the tricyclic skeleton 25 directly. The configuration of 25 was confirmed by X-ray analysis.     

Ge-O coordination in cesium germanate glasses

Neutron diffraction data with high real-space resolution are reported for an extensive series of cesium germanate glasses with 2, 5, 10, 15, 18, 21, 25, and 30 mol % Cs(2)O, and also for pure GeO(2) in its vitreous, quartz, and rutile forms. The results for pure GeO(2) show that neutron diffraction can clearly identify an increase in the Ge-O coordination number above the tetrahedral value of four. The results for cesium germanate glasses give strong evidence that the Ge-O coordination number rises to a maximum of 4.36 +/- 0.03 for 18 mol % Cs(2)O and then declines. This behavior may be associated with the germanate anomaly in the thermophysical properties. A model is developed for the composition-dependence of the Ge-O coordination number, and according to this model the rise in the coordination number involves the formation of mostly GeO(5) units, rather than GeO(6) units. Our results also show that the low alkali anomaly is a longer range phenomenon, and is not associated with a preference for the formation of nonbridging oxygens for very low alkali oxide content.     

Surface orientation of 1-methyl-, 1-ethyl-, and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methyl sulfate as probed by sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy

The orientation of the ions at the surface of ionic liquids has been determined by the surface-sensitive technique sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy. The results indicate that both ions are present at the first layer of the gas-liquid interface. Furthermore, the alkyl chains are found to be extended toward the gas phase and away from the liquid phase. The proposed models for the preferred orientation of the ions are in good agreement in comparison with the results obtained from the recent MD simulation studies. The salts considered here are 1,3-dimethylimidazolium methylsulfate, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methylsulfate, and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methylsulfate.     

Simultaneous distillation-extraction of high-value volatile compounds from Cistus ladanifer L

The present paper describes a procedure to isolate volatiles from rock-rose (Cistus ladanifer L.) using simultaneous distillation-extraction (SDE). High-value volatile compounds (HVVC) were selected and the influence of the extraction conditions investigated. The effect of the solvent nature and extraction time on SDE efficiency was studied. The best performance was achieved with pentane in 1 h operation. The extraction efficiencies ranged from 65% to 85% and the repeatability varied between 4% and 6% (as a CV%).The C. ladanifer SDE extracts were analysed by headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) followed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID). The HS-SPME sampling conditions such as fiber coating, temperature, ionic strength and exposure time were optimized. The best results were achieved with an 85 μm polyacrylate fiber for a 60 min headspace extraction at 40 °C with 20% (w/v) of NaCl. For optimized conditions the recovery was in average higher than 90% for all compounds and the intermediate precision ranged from 4 to 9% (as CV %). The volatiles α-pinene (22.2 mg g⁻¹ of extract), 2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexanone (6.1 mg g⁻¹ of extract), borneol (3.0 mg g⁻¹ of extract) and bornyl acetate (3.9 mg g⁻¹ of extract) were identified in the SDE extracts obtained from the fresh plant material.     

A straightforward asymmetric synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted ferrocenylalkyl amines with the unusual (S(Fc),S) configuration

A useful synthesis of rare 1,2-disubstituted ferrocenylalkyl amines with (S(Fc),S) configuration has been achieved in a sequential one-pot methodology from (S)-p-tolylsulfinylferrocene.
