Temperature decay in sealed rockbeds has been recorded. The rockbeds lost energy through the top surface and the results indicated that different natural convective flows occurred in beds of fixed depth and rock size but different lateral dimensions. However, the different flows had no effect on the mean power density dissipated through the top of the beds. A simple numerical conduction model based on the power integral method was used to calculate the temperature decay. The experimental results suggested that an insulated porous lower boundary was appropriate for the model and this gave the best agreement with the experiments. 相似文献

The first thermodynamic dissociation constants of boric acid in aqueous solution of lithium chloride with borate at five different temperatures from 278.15 to 318.15 K were evaluated from emf values of the cell without liquid junction potential with the improved extrapolation and polynomial approximation on the basis of Pitzer's theory. Values obtained from both methods are in good agreement with each other. Two QSAR models have been identified that predict the affinity and selectivity of arylpiperazinyl derivatives for 1 and 2 adrenoceptors (ARs). The models have been specified and validated using 108 compounds whose structures and inhibition constants (K
i) are available in the literature [Barbaro etal., J. Med. Chem., 44 (2001) 2118; Betti etal., J. Med. Chem., 45 (2002) 3603; Barbaro etal., Bioorg. Med. Chem., 10 (2002) 361; Betti etal., J. Med. Chem., 46 (2003) 3555]. One hundred and forty-seven predictors have been calculated using the Cerius 2 software available from Accelrys. This set of variables exhibited redundancy and severe multicollinearity, which had to be identified and removed as appropriate in order to obtain robust regression models free of inflated errors for the estimates – so-called bouncing s. Those predictors that contained information relevant to the 2 response were identified on the basis of their pairwise linear correlations with affinity (–log K
i) for 2 adrenoceptors; the remaining variables were discarded. Subsequent variable selection made use of Factor Analysis (FA) and Unsupervised Variable Selection (UzFS). The data was divided into test and training sets using cluster analysis. These two sets were characterised by similar and consistent distributions of compounds in a high dimensional, but relevant predictor space. Multiple regression was then used to determine a subset of predictors from which to determine QSAR models for affinity to 2-ARs. Two multivariate procedures, Continuum Regression (the Portsmouth formulation) and Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA), have been used to specify models for affinity and selectivity, respectively. After the Chernobyl reactor accident, Eastern Black Sea coast was one of the heavily contaminated regions of Turkey. Clouds loaded with radioactive isotopes arrived the region on May 1986 and emptied their contents with the heavy rains that are frequently seen in the region. In order to asses the current level of contamination, several different samples, moss, lichen, litter, surface soil and soil cores were collected on August 1994. Samples were brought to the laboratory and their moisture, pH and organic matter contents were determined. Gamma-ray spectra of the samples were collected with a HpGe detector. (137)Cs was the major isotope observed. Activity of most litter samples were below 1000 Bq/kg, while most of the moss samples had activities below 5000 Bq/kg, there were a few with higher (137)Cs activities. A fiber optic low-coherence sensor based on the spectral shift of tantalum pentoxide thin films for absolute temperature sensing up to 650°C is described. A tantalum pentoxide single layer was deposited directly onto the cleaved end-face of a single mode optical fibre and was illuminated with an super luminescence diode (SLD) source through a directional coupler. Interference fringes of the film on reflection were obtained within the optical bandwidth of the SLD using an optical spectrum analyser. The spectral shift versus temperature rise showed no turning points and the output was unambiguous, linear, monotonic and gave about 0.016 nm wavelength shift in the spectrum per°C. A semi-empirical calibration procedure based on the refractive index (n) and thickness (l) of the tantalum pentoxide film for absolute thermometric measurements is described. 相似文献

Oxidative stress is one of the significant precursors of various metabolic diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, etc. Various scientific reports have indicated that secondary plant metabolites play an important role in preventing oxidative stress and its harmful effects. In this respect, this study was planned to investigate the phenolic profile and antioxidant and antidiabetic potentials of the aqueous extracts from Turkish Cistus species by employing in vitro methods. In vitro digestion simulation procedure was applied to all extracts to estimate the bioavailability of their phenolic contents. Total phenolic, flavonoid, phenolic acid and proanthocyanidin contents were determined for all phases of digestion. In addition, changes in the quantity of the assigned marker flavonoids (tiliroside, hyperoside and quercitrin) were monitored by High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) analysis. The antioxidant activity potentials of the extracts were studied by various methods to reveal their detailed activity profiles. On the other hand, in vitro α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes and advanced-glycation end product (AGE) inhibitory activities of the extracts were determined to evaluate the antidiabetic potentials of extracts. The results showed that aqueous extracts obtained from the aerial parts of Turkish Cistus species have rich phenolic contents and potential antioxidant and antidiabetic activities; however, their bioactivity profiles and marker flavonoid concentrations might significantly be affected by human digestion. The results exhibited that total phenolic contents, antioxidant activities and diabetes-related enzyme inhibitions of the bioavailable samples were lower than non-digested samples in all extracts. 相似文献

Characterization of the electrical properties of covalently linked polyethylene glycol thin films under a changing relative humidity is examined by dc measurements. At low humidity levels, electronic conduction takes place while the absorbed water contributes to this mechanism and increases the current. At around 70% relative humidity, as a result of the water clusters formed, the polymer melts from the semicrystalline form and the current shows a steeper increase. The water vapor condenses and conduction takes an ionic nature. There is a hysteresis between the absorption and desorption of water as the film cannot reach its semicrystalline form in the time interval of desorption.
