Synthesis and properties of poly(acrylamide)s containing both long chain alkyl groups and phosphatidylcholine analogues in the side chains

A series of new phospholipid analogous acrylamide monomers ( 4a–e ) containing long alkyl chains as hydrophobic groups and containing phosphatidylcholine analogues as hydrophilic group were synthesized in high yields. The homopolymerizations and copolymerization ( 4b with 4e ) were carried out in the presence of a radical initiator. The structures and thermal properties of these polymers were investigated by x-ray diffraction analysis, DSC, and polarizing microscopy measurements. It has been revealed that these homopolymers ( 5b, 5c , and 5d ) which bear saturated long-hydrocarbon chains in the side chains exhibited not only orderly stacked bilayer structures at room temperature but also clear liquid crystalline behavior within a wide temperature range. The viscosity behavior of all polymers was found similar to usual polyelectrolytes in porlar solvent. The polymers obtained were also characterized by ¹H-NMR, IR, and melting point, respectively. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Reaction of dichlorocarbene with 1-(2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenyl)-1-phosphaallenes

1-(2,4,6-Tri-t-butylphenyl)-1-phosphaallene reacted with dichlorocarbene to give 2-dichloromethylene-1-(2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenyl)-1-phosphirane. The structure was confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. A similar isomerization product was obtained in the reaction of dichlorocarbene with 3-phenyl-1-(2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenyl)-1-phosphaallene.     

A Neutral and Aromatic Boron‐Rich Inorganic Benzene

A neutral 1,4‐diaza‐2,3,5,6‐tetraborinine derivative ( 3 ) featuring a 6π ring system has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The prospective aromatic nature of 3 was assessed by single‐crystal X‐ray analysis, NMR, and UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy as well as computational studies. Furthermore, preliminary reactivity investigations showed that 3 does not only react with diphenyl acetylene but also readily captures CO₂ in a [4+2] cycloaddition under ambient conditions.     

Heat transfer and flow around a circular cylinder with tripping-wires

An experimental study was conducted on the heat transfer under the condition of constant heat flux and the flow around a circular cylinder with tripping-wires, which were affixed at ± 65° from the forward stagnation point on the cylinder surface. The testing fluid was air and the Reynolds number Red, based on the cylinder diameter, ranged from 1.2 × 10⁴ to 5.2×10⁴. Especially investigated are the interactions between the heat transfer and the flow in the critical flow state, in relation to the static pressure distribution along the cylinder surface and the mean and turbulent fluctuating velocities in the wake. It is found that the heat transfer from the cylinder to the cross flow is in very close connection with the width of near wake.
