Chloropentane forms asymmetric ('A') and symmetric ('S') pairs on Si(100)-2×1, differing in the direction of curvature of one pentane tail. Surprisingly this renders the rate of thermal reaction of 'A' fifteen times greater than 'S' in chlorinating room-temperature silicon. Correspondingly, for electron-induced reaction the energy threshold for A is 1 eV less than for S.  相似文献

Chlorella vulgaris was cultivated in a growth medium containing arsenate concentration of <0.01, 10, 100 and 1000 mg l?1. Illumination was carried out in 12 h cycles for 5 days. The health status of the culture was monitored by continuous pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) readings. Destructive sampling was used for the determination of biomass, chlorophyll, total arsenic and arsenic species. The chlorophyll a content, the DO and pH cycles were not significantly different for the different arsenate concentrations in the culture. In contrast, biomass production was significantly (p < 0.05) increased for the arsenic(V) treatment at 1000 mg l?1 compared with 100 mg l?1. The arsenic concentration in the algae increased with the arsenate concentration in the culture. However, the bioconcentration factor decreased a hundred‐fold with increase of arsenate from the background level to 1000 mg l?1. The arsenic species were identified by using strong anion‐exchange high‐performance liquid chromatography–inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry analysis after methanol/water (1 : 1) extraction. The majority (87–100%) of the extractable arsenic was still arsenate; arsenite was found to be between 1 and 6% of total extractable arsenic in the algae. In addition to dimethylarsinic acid, one unknown arsenical (almost co‐eluting with methylarsonic acid) and three different arsenosugars have been identified for the first time in C. vulgaris growing in a culture containing a mixture of antibiotics and believed to be axenic. The transformation to arsenosugars in the algae is not dependent on the arsenate concentration in the culture and varies between 0.2 and 5% of total accumulated arsenic. Although no microbiological tests for bacterial contamination were made, this study supports the hypothesis that algae, and not associated bacteria, produce the arsenosugars. This case study describes a professor's evolution from geoscience researcher to effective teacher to education researcher. The article details his initial beliefs about teaching, looks at the factors that prompted him to seek a different teaching approach, and enumerates the supports and challenges that he had on his journey. Factors essential to this evolution are early career success in discipline research, an institutional climate to reward teaching, mentoring support by colleagues, access to professional development opportunities, and involvement in action research activities. Sufficient conditions are given that determine when solutions to general boundary value problems for inhomogeneous anisotropic laminated thermoelastic media are approximated, in the average, by solution of constant coefficient equations. Summary We have constructed two phage display libraries expressing N-terminal pIII fusions in M13 composed of 37 and 43 random amino acid domains, respectively. The D38 library expresses 37 random amino acids with a central alanine residue, and the DC43 library contains 43 random amino acids with a central cysteine flanked by two glycine residues, giving the displayed peptide the potential to form disulfide loops of various sizes. We demonstrate that the majority of random sequences in both libraries are compatible in pentavalent display with phage viability. The M13 phage display vector itself has been engineered to contain a factor Xa protease cleavage site to provide an alternative to acid elution during affinity selection. An in-frame amber mutation has been inserted between the pIII cloning sites to allow for efficient selection against nonrecombinant phage in the library. These libraries have been panned against mAb 7E11-C5, which recognizes the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSM). Isolated phage display a consensus sequence that is homologous to a region in the PSM molecule.  相似文献

Both the continuous β-mray spectrum and the internal conversion electron spectrum of 91Sr have been studied with a π√2 magnetic spectrometer. The measurements yield an intensity of 30.8% for the first-forbidden unique β-decay to the ground state and a Q-value of 2.684 ± 0.004 MeV. The measured internal conversion coefficient of the 555.6 keV isomeric transition in 91Y is in excellent agreement with the theoretical value for an M4 transition. Seven less intense internally converted transitions were also studied. The results verify the Jπ assignments of earlier studies and also provide new information for the transitions from which level structure configurations can be proposed.  相似文献

We investigate why similar extensions of first-order logic using operators (that is, generalized quantifiers) corresponding to NP-complete decision problems apparently differ in expressibility: the logics capture either NP or LNP. It had been conjectured that the complexity class captured is NP if and only if the operator is monotone. We show that this conjecture is false. In situ EXAFS spectroscopic studies of uranium compounds in high temperature alkali chloride melts indicate the presence of oligomeric species. An investigation into UCl(3) and UCl(4) dissolved in LiCl reveals long range ordering of uranium atoms in the molten state which is not maintained on quenching. Studies of uranium dioxide dissolved in LiCl-KCl eutectic with HCl exhibit long range ordering in both molten and quenched states, and the EXAFS data can be modeled using multiple coordination shells.  相似文献
