Stabilization of circular states of the hydrogen atom in a strong field

A solution of the three-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation, describing the ionization dynamics of the hydrogen atom in a circular state in an electromagnetic field, is obtained by direct numerical integration. It is shown that the observed stabilization effect can be interpreted on the basis of the Kramers-Henneberger approach. A simple analytical model is proposed, which qualitatively describes the basic laws of the ionization process under the conditions of the reported calculations and laboratory experiments on ionization of the circular hydrogenlike 5g, m=4 state of the Ne atom.     

Propagation of few-cycle laser pulses through a linear gas medium

We investigate the ultrashort pulse propagation through a linear gas medium by direct solution of the wave equation beyond the often used lowest orders of the dispersion approximation and the assumption of a slowly varying envelope. The dispersion effects and the effective absorption of the pulse energy by the medium are shown to result in a strong dispersive broadening of the initial pulse in the time and space domains. New features of the polarization response of the medium resulting from essentially nonadiabatic ramps of the pulse envelope are found. The possibility of using the two-pulse experimental scheme to partly compensate for the dispersion is discussed.     

Synthesis ofα-nitrocarbonyl compounds

Experimental results on proton diffractive dissociation

Properties of proton diffractive dissociation have been investigated for four-prong final states in proton-proton reactions at 360 GeV/c, in particular forpp→ppπ ⁺π^? mπ ⁰(m=0,1,2). Mass distributions and decay angular distributions are given. The decay of the diffractive system is seen to be very anisotropic, and largep _T is suppressed at higher masses. It is found that the “pomeron” couples with a single valence quark of the incident proton, but indications for a diquark-pomeron coupling are also found. Similarities with fragmentation in lepton-hadron deep inelastic scattering are underlined.     

Dispersion laws in crystals of rhombohedral symmetry

The laws of dispersion in crystals of rhombohedral syngony were investigated in the neighborhood of symmetrical points in the Brillouin zone by mean-square approximation with allowance for the operation of time reversal.
