Linear mode conversion of waves near the maxima or minima of the density in a warm magnetized plasma

Behaviour of the h. f. electrostatic waves near the plasma or upper hybrid resonances was studied in the case that these resonances are situated at the maxima or minima of the plasma density. Supposing the parabolic density profile in these regions we obtained the connection formulae for the WKB solutions. In a weakly inhomogeneous magnetoplasma the effect of the parabolic profile manifests itself only in narrow frequency band centred at the resonance frequency corresponding to the extreme value of the density. The whole process can be then described by only two coefficients, viz. the power conversion and power transmission coefficients.     

Kinetics of the photodissociation iodine laser with slow pumping

Systematic calculations of maximum inversion were performed for iodine photodissociation laser in dependence on the mixture composition. The flash-lamp radiation was modelled as emanating from an optically thin Xe plasma. Duration of the pumping pulse is about 300 s. The sensitivity of the model to the values of kinetic constants was also tested.     

Structural and electrical properties of quasicrystalline Al-14 at% Mn alloy

Quasicrystalline Al-14 at. % Mn alloy was prepared by melt-spinning and its structural and electrical properties were studied. This alloy consists of icosahedral grains with sizes from 1 to 4 m and of crystalline aluminium phase. The electrical resistivity was almost temperature independent with a value of about 765 n gWm at 4·2 K.     

Spectroscopic factors of9Be,10B and13C from (d,t) reactions

The differential cross sections of tritons from the (d, t) reaction on⁹Be,¹⁰B and¹³C targets have been measured in the angular range of 5° _LAB110° with relatively small errors, 5%. The experimental data were analysed in terms of the standard DWBA using both zero-range and exact finite-range approaches.     

Ultra'soft X-ray diagnostics of short-living plasmas

Ultrasoft X-ray plasma diagnostics in IPP is realized by using X-ray diodes with Al photocathodes and submicrometer nitrocellulose filters. The X-ray detections system is suitable for measurements in a relatively broad range of radiation intensities in the spectral interval of (10–1000) eV with the time resolution of (1–10) ns under various plasma conditions. Construction, calibration and characteristic properties of the measuring apparatus are described. To illustrate its use, some results of the diagnostics of REB-heated plasma are presented.We would like to acknowledge Dr. P. unka for many helpful discussions and Dr. J. Restoration of universality for the rod-to-coil transition scaling in the infinite-dimensionality limit: Exact results for directed walks

We derive scaling forms for the thermodynamic and correlation quantities for the turn-weighted fully and partially directed self-avoiding walks on the hypercubic lattices ind2. In the grand canonical (fixed fugacity per step) ensemble, the conformational rod-to-coil transition sets up in the regimew¯N=O(1), wherew is the weight of each 90° turn and¯N is the (fugacity-dependent) average number of steps. Contrary to the conventional critical phenomena wisdom, the scaling functions for the two different walk models, directed and partially directed, become universal only in the limitd.     

The search for organically bonded iron in New Zealand brown coals

Brown coal from two areas in New Zealand was treated with acids (HF and HCl) to remove the clays. Iron was then introduced into the “cleaned” coal by ion exchange. Mössbauer spectra of the untreated coal, the low temperature ash of the coal, “cleaned” coal and ion-exchanged coal were analysed. From these spectra we conclude that a pair of lines with QS～1 mm s^?1 and IS～0.45 mm s^?1 is probably due to organically bonded iron.     

Three-body Coulomb effects in neutral-particle-exchange singularity

In a three-body model with Coulomb interactions the Faddeev equations for the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas transition operators are used to find the leading term of the neutron-transfer amplitude near the exchange singularity in the cos plane. We derive formulae containing three-body Coulomb effects for the renormalization of the second-order exchange pole in the calculation of observables, such as the cross section and polarizations.     

Production of light superpartners in π0 radiative decays

The production rate of light photinos in radiative pion decay \(\pi ^0 \to \gamma \tilde \gamma \tilde \gamma\) is calculated. Experimental constraints on masses and mass splittings of scalar quarks imply the following upper bound on the decay rate \(BR(\pi ^0 \to \gamma \tilde \gamma \tilde \gamma ) \lesssim 10^{ - 16}\) .
