Proton relaxation times in human red bone marrow by volume selective magnetic resonance spectroscopy

In hematological diseases the composition of red bone marrow shows alterations. The relaxation timesT ₁ andT ₂ of water and lipids in human hemopoietic bone marrow of 14 normal volunteers and 10 patients with acute leukemia and bone marrow carcinosis are determined using a double spin echo spectroscopy sequencein vivo. The volumes of interest (VOI) of (13 mm)³ in the center of vertebral bodies are examined using different measurement parameters. ForT ₁ measurements an inversion-recovery method is used.T ₂ is evaluated from spectra with differentTE. T ₁ (water) is found in a range between 1000 and 1700 ms,T ₁ (lipids) in a range between 260 and 320 ms in healthy volunteers.T ₂ (water) is determined between 32 and 65 ms. In some cases phase distortions of the water signals occur in the spectra. Water flow within the VOI may be a possible reason.T ₂ (lipids) is evaluated between 73 and 91 ms. The patients with acute leukemia exhibit clearly reduced lipid signals in their spectra. Lipid relaxation times could not be determined in these cases.T ₂ (water) is prolonged in acute leukemia to 51–98 ms.T ₁ (water) was not significantly different from values of healthy volunteers in our measurements. Results are discussed in comparison to relaxometric data from imaging and STEAM spectroscopic methods of other authors.     

Dual effects of fullerene doped to holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals

Doping of conductive fullerene particles to the formulation of conventional holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal‐induced dual effects of reducing both droplet coalescence and operating voltage. Fullerene induced an induction period which otherwise does not exist, followed by a gradual increase of diffraction efficiency to a saturation value being increased with increasing fullerene content. The increased diffraction efficiency was caused by the decreased droplet coalescence which was due to the hindered migration of LC by the fullerene particles. On the other hand, doped fullerene particles augmented the conductivity of polymer phase and hence the local electrical field imposed on LC droplet, which overcome the threshold for driving and reduced operating voltage and response times. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 通过分析实际P-N结与理想模型之间的差别,建立了P-N结二极管及太阳能电池的数学模型;利用Matlab中的系统仿真模块库建立仿真模型,设置参量,求解模型方程并绘制了图形.对太阳能电池在一定光照下旁路电阻及串联电阻取不同数值时对其开路电压、短路电流及填充因子的影响做了模拟,并与实际测得的硅太阳能电池伏安特性进行了比较.模型分析与实验测量的结果表明:等效的旁路电阻和串联电阻分别影响电池的开路电压和短路电流.仿真结果与实验测量结果一致.     

Polarization-dependent carrier dynamics in a passive InAs/InP quantum dot waveguide

We investigate carrier dynamics in a passive InAs/InP quantum dot (QD) waveguide using 255 fs optical pulses at a central wavelength of 1568 nm. We observe strong anisotropy of absorption saturation for different polarizations. Pump-probe measurements indicate the presence of carrier relaxation dynamics on a timescale in the order of tens of picoseconds due to cascaded relaxation of carriers generated by two-photon absorption (TPA) from the bulk region to the QDs via the wetting layer. These relaxation timescales are much longer than in QD amplifiers. Our observations are supported by a rate-equation model which includes TPA, showing good agreement with the pump-probe measurements.

Synchronization of a class of chaotic dynamic systems with controller gain variations

In this paper, the nonfragile control problem for synchronization of a class of chaotic dynamical systems with controller gain variations is studied. Using the Lyapunov method and LMI (linear matrix inequality) technique, a criterion for the existence of the nonfragile controller for synchronization is derived in terms of LMI. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, the control problem is applied to Genesio chaotic system.     

Alloy formation in mechanically activated mixtures

The physical mixtures of hydroxocarbonates of Cu and Ni with aluminium were activated using a laboratory planetary mill. The chemical reactions and alloy formations as the effects of grinding were followed by the phase analysis of solid products based on the thermogravimetry and X-ray diffractometry. Experimental evidence indicates that the nature of reactions and products of mechanical activation was dependent on the amount of aluminium and time of grinding. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Regioselective construction of polysubstituted benzene ring from Baylis-Hillman adduct via [4+2] annulation strategy

A new and regioselective [4+2] benzannulation protocol toward polysubstituted benzenes was developed. Nitroalkane derivative, which was prepared from Baylis-Hillman adduct, served as the four-carbon unit and Michael acceptor as a two-carbon unit.     

Fixed Point Theorems on Product Topological Spaces and Applications

A new collectively fixed point theorem for a family of set-valued mappings defined on product spaces of non-compact topological spaces without linear structure is proved and some special cases are also discussed. As applications, some non-empty intersection theorems of sets with convex sections and equilibrium existence theorem of abstract economies are obtained under much weaker assumptions. Our results includes a number of known results as many special cases.
