Synthesis of 1-(2-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-4-yl) pyrrolidin-2-ones from Anilines and N-Vinyl Pyrrolidin-2-one Through Imino Diels–Alder Reaction Using 4-Nitro Phthalic Acid as Catalyst

Aryl amines react smoothly and efficiently with N-vinyl pyrrolidin-2-one in the presence of 4-nitro phthalic acid in acetonitrile to afford the corresponding 1-(2-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-4-yl)pyrrolidin-2-ones in good yields.     

meso-meso-Linked corrole dimers with modified cores: synthesis, characterization, and properties

The synthesis and characterization of the first examples of core-modified corrole dimers linked through the meso positions are described. The dimers are obtained by a simple Ag(I)- or Fe(III)-catalyzed coupling reaction in near-quantitative yields. The corroles obtained are metalated with metal ions, such as Cu(II) and Ni(II). The electronic-absorption spectral studies reveal weak electronic interaction between the two subunits and the exciton coupling observed for the free-base corrole dimer (1717 cm(-1)) is lower than that for the corresponding protonated derivative (4081 cm(-1)). The solution-state structure derived from (1)H and two-dimensional NMR spectral studies reveals a noncoplanar arrangement of two corrole units. Geometry optimization at the B3LYP-631G level also confirms the noncoplanar arrangement of corroles with a dihedral angle of 64.8 degrees between two corrole planes. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and magnetic characterization studies on the paramagnetic copper-metalated dimer indicate that both copper ions behave as independent spins without any noticeable interaction. Results of fluorescence studies reveal a bathochromic shift of about 60 nm upon dimerization. The first hyperpolarizability (beta) measured by using the hyper Rayleigh scattering (HRS) method reveals doubling of the beta values on progressing from monomer to dimer, attributed to enhanced pi conjugation. The use of copper dimers in the photocleavage of DNA is also explored. It is shown that the bimetallic copper dimer selectively cleaves the nucleic acids without affecting the proteins, suggesting a possible application of the copper complex in the removal of nucleic acid contaminants from protein extracts through a simple photolytic pathway.     

Aromatic core-modified twisted heptaphyrins[1.1.1.1.1.1.0]: syntheses and structural characterization

[reaction: see text] First examples of aromatic core-modified twisted heptapyrrolic systems with six meso links have been obtained via a general [3 + 4] acid-catalyzed condensation method. Despite the twisted conformation, these heptaphyrins exhibit aromaticity in solution, unlike most of the all-aza analogues.     

In Vitro and In Silico Screening and Characterization of Antimicrobial Napin Bioactive Protein in Brassica juncea and Moringa oleifera

The study aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of Mustard (Brassica juncea) and Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf extracts and coagulant protein for their potential application in water treatment. Bacterial cell aggregation and growth kinetics studies were employed for thirteen bacterial strains with different concentrations of leaf extracts and coagulant protein. Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MOS) and coagulant protein showed cell aggregation against ten bacterial strains, whereas leaf extract alone showed growth inhibition of five bacterial strains for up to 6 h and five bacterial strains for up to 3 h. Brassica juncea leaf extract (BJS) showed growth inhibition for up to 6 h, and three bacterial strains showed inhibition for up to 3 h. The highest inhibition concentration with 2.5 mg/mL was 19 mm, and furthermore, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (0.5 mg/mL) and MBC (1.5 mg/mL) were determined to have a higher antibacterial effect for <3 KDa peptides. Based on LCMS analysis, napin was identified in both MOS and BJS; furthermore, the mode of action of napin peptide was determined on lipoprotein X complex (LpxC) and four-chained structured binding protein of bacterial type II topoisomerase (4PLB). The docking analysis has exhibited moderate to potent inhibition with a range of dock score −912.9 Kcal/mol. Thus, it possesses antibacterial-coagulant potential bioactive peptides present in the Moringa oleifera purified protein (MOP) and Brassica juncea purified protein (BJP) that could act as an effective antimicrobial agent to replace currently available antibiotics. The result implies that MOP and Brassica juncea purified coagulant (BJP) proteins may perform a wide degree of antibacterial functions against different pathogens.     

Encapsulation of palladium in polyurea microcapsules

An interfacial polymerisation approach is adopted to encapsulate palladium(II) acetate and palladium nanoparticles in polyurea microcapsules for use in catalysis.     

Syntheses of core-modified corroles by three different [3 + 1] methodologies

Three new methods for syntheses of modified oxa corroles bearing one meso free carbon in reasonably good yields are reported. The formation of the meso carbon bridge and the direct pyrrole-pyrrole linkage occur in a single step by a simple condensation and coupling with TFA as a catalyst with appropriate precursors. The reactions are optimized with different conditions by varying the meso substituents, acid catalyst concentration, and the nature of the solvent to afford corroles in good yields.     

Stereocontrol of 1,5-related stereocentres using an intermediate silyl group--the diastereoselectivity of nucleophilic attack on a double bond adjacent to a stereogenic centre carrying a silyl group

R-5-Methylcyclohex-2-enone 1 reacts successively with the phenyldimethylsilylzincate reagent and acetaldehyde to give with regiocontrol the aldols 7, dehydration of which creates the E-exocyclic double bond of the alpha,beta-unsaturated ketone 2. Conjugate addition of the ethylcuprate reagent to this compound takes place with high (96:4) selectivity in favour of the R stereoisomer 12, hydrolysis of which gives (2R,3R,5S,2'R)-2-(but-2'-yl)-3-dimethyl(phenyl)silyl-5-methylcyclohexanone 3. The oxime acetate of this ketone undergoes fragmentation in the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate to give 3R,7R,5E-3,7-dimethylnon-5-enonitrile 4, in which an open-chain 1,5-stereochemical relationship is set up with a high level of stereocontrol. A similar sequence adding 4-methylpentylcuprate to the enone 2, and fragmentation gives 3R,7R,5E-3,7,11-trimethyldodec-5-enonitrile 20. Reduction and hydrogenation of this nitrile gives 3R,7R-3,7,11-trimethyldodecanal 22, which can be converted into phytol 25. The ketoaldehyde 29 reacts with samarium iodide to give only the alcohol 30, in which the radical anion has attacked from the top surface just like the cuprate reagents in their reactions with the ketone 2.     

Synthesis of α,α-dideutero-β-amino esters

A straight forward entry to α,α-dideutero-β-amino esters starting from the corresponding imines and deuterated acetonitrile has been developed involving a two-step process.

First successful syntheses and structural characterization of new core modified meso aryl azuliporphyrins by a simple [3 + 1] methodology are reported.     

Synthesis and use of chiral substituted benzenes containing 1,2-diols protected as cyclic acetals

1,2-Dihydroxy benzenes have been protected as cyclic diacetals using 2,3-butane dione. These diacetals are extremely robust and can be further chemically diversified and resolved with chirality embedded in the 1,4-dioxane ring attached to the aromatic back bone as a result of the anomeric effect. These systems can serve as ligands, auxiliaries or organocatalysts for asymmetric synthesis.
