We theoretically investigate slow and fast light propagation and pulse velocity control in a nanocavity containing a single quantum dot side-coupled to a planar-photonic-crystal waveguide. We demonstrate that low coupling strength (i.e., the weak coupling regime) between a cavity and a dot, under on-resonance condition, can lead to delays of about +90 ps for a pulse 1/e-width of 280 ps. The group delay dependence on the various coupling parameters suggests achievable delays of +300 ps and consequently very slow light speeds of around 5000 m/s in a 1.5 microm cavity-waveguide section. We also show that under off-resonant condition one can achieve significant pulse advancement of -60 ps.  相似文献

Using an optical biosensor based on a dual-peak long-period fiber grating, we have demonstrated the detection of interactions between biomolecules in real time. Silanization of the grating surface was successfully realized for the covalent immobilization of probe DNA, which was subsequently hybridized with the complementary target DNA sequence. It is interesting to note that the DNA biosensor was reusable after being stripped off the hybridized target DNA from the grating surface, demonstrating a function of multiple usability.  相似文献

The small lattice mismatch and sixfold symmetry offered by the (0001) planes of sapphire make it an ideal substrate candidate for the deposition of (111) CdTe films. There, however, exists a wide disparity in film quality among various researchers with both single crystal and highly twinned, multidomain films being reported. We have developed a pulsed laser deposition process that enables us to deposit nearly single-domain (111) CdTe films exhibiting excellent surface morphology. Such films are deposited on as-received sapphire substrates in vacuum conditions where oxygen is readily available. If, however, film deposition is preceded by the deposition of a submonolayer of aluminum prior to film growth then a secondary CdTe domain emerges with an in-plane orientation having a 180°-in-plane offset from the first domain. These multidomain films show poor crystallographic and morphological properties, similar to what has been reported elsewhere. It is concluded that the singly terminated (0001) sapphire substrates are a prerequisite for the deposition of high-quality (111) CdTe films.  相似文献

The rf pulse response of I=3/2 spin system experiencing first order quadrupolar splitting is studied using density matrix approach. A general expression is derived in terms of spin populations, quadrupole splitting and duration and amplitude of the rf pulse for calculating the NMR signal arising due to the centre line and satellite resonances for the situation where the impressed rf pulse excites the resonances selectively as well as non-selectively. The necessary 4×4 transformation matrix obtained analytically by diagonalyzing the Hamiltonian are used to get the expression for the centre line response. The satellite signals are obtained in the same way but by using the numerical values of the roots of the related quartics. The widths of the corresponding π/2-pulses are calculated for different initial spin populations. The variations of this pulse-width and the corresponding signal amplitude as a function of satellite splitting are studied.  相似文献

Qualitative and quantitative properties of the finite part, H(f), of the Shannon entropy of a continuous waveform f(t) in the continuum limit are derived in order to illuminate its use for waveform characterization. Simple upper and lower bounds on H(f), based on features of f(t), are defined. Quantitative criteria for a priori estimation of the average-case variation of H(f) and log E(f), where E(f) is the signal energy of f(t) are also derived. These provide relative sensitivity estimates that could be used to prospectively choose optimal imaging strategies in real-time ultrasonic imaging machines, where system bandwidth is often pushed to its limits. To demonstrate the utility of these sensitivity relations for this application, a study designed to assess the feasibility of identification of angiogenic neovasculature targeted with perfluorocarbon nanoparticles that specifically bind to alpha(v)beta3-integrin expression in tumors was performed. The outcome of this study agrees with the prospective sensitivity estimates that were used for the two receivers. Moreover, these data demonstrate the ability of entropy-based signal receivers when used in conjunction with targeted nanoparticles to elucidate the presence of alpha(v)beta3 integrins in primordial neovasculature, particularly in acoustically unfavorable environments.  相似文献

We describe a technique for broadband measurements of the attenuation coefficient and phase velocity of highly attenuating liquid suspensions. To validate the technique we apply it to the ultrasound contrast agent Albunex at concentrations ranging from 0.69 x 10(6) particles/mL to 364 x 10(6) particles/mL. These longitudinal wave measurements were performed on Albunex suspensions maintained at 37 degrees C in a special time-domain reflectometer designed and constructed in our laboratory. The frequency-dependent attenuation coefficients and phase velocities obtained in the reflectometer are compared to broadband through-transmission measurements of these same quantities, which were also performed in our laboratory. Although comparison data between the two techniques are only available at lower concentrations, the agreement is quite good and serves to validate the methods described in this paper.  相似文献

Direction reversals of intrinsic toroidal rotation have been observed in diverted Alcator C-Mod Ohmic L-mode plasmas following electron density ramps. For low density discharges, the core rotation is directed cocurrent, and reverses to countercurrent following an increase in the density above a certain threshold. Such reversals occur together with a decrease in density fluctuations with 2 cm(-1)≤k(θ)≤11 cm(-1) and frequencies above 70 kHz. There is a strong correlation between the reversal density and the density at which the Ohmic L-mode energy confinement changes from the linear to the saturated regime.  相似文献

Four mechanical surface treatments have been considered for the application to austenitic stainless steel structures. Shot peening (SP), laser shock peening (LSP), ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT) and water jet cavitation peening (WJCP), also known as cavitation shotless peening (CSP), have been applied to 8 mm thick Type 304 austenitic stainless steel coupons. This study considers the merits of each of these mechanical surface treatments in terms of their effect on the surface roughness, microstructure, level of plastic work and through thickness residual stress distribution. Microstructural studies have revealed the formation of martensite close to the treated surface for each process. Residual stress measurements in the samples show compressive stresses to a significantly greater depth for the LSP, UIT and WJCP samples compared to the more conventional SP treated sample.  相似文献
