Diode-pumped 671 nm laser frequency doubled by CPM LBO

A design of diode-pumped high-efficiency Nd:YVO₄/LBO red laser is reported. Using critical phase-matching (CPM) LBO, 671 nm red laser was obtained from 1342 nm light by intracavity frequency doubling. With an incident pump laser of 800 mW, using type-I and type-II CPM LBO, 97 and 52 mWTEM₀₀ mode red laser outputs were obtained, with optical-to-optical conversion efficiencies of up to 12.1% and 6.5%, respectively.     

Three New Polyoxygenated Steroids from Two Species of the South China Sea Gorgonian Muricella flexuosa and Menella verrucosa Brundin

Three new polyoxygenated steroids, muricesteroid ( 1 ), and menellsteroids A ( 2 ) and B ( 3 ), were isolated from two species of the South China Sea gorgonian Muricella flexuosa and Menella verrucosa Brundin , respectively. The structures of these new compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, chemical methods and comparison with known related compounds.     

SiOx纳米管的制备及其发光特性

以液态金属镓为媒介,利用热蒸发法合成大量非晶SiOx纳米管,这些纳米管管径均匀分布,平均约80 nm,长度大于10μm,且管内外径比例较小．分析发现,在实验过程中,熔入金属镓液滴中的硅元素和氧元素结合并从液滴的表面饱和析出,形成以镓为中心的非晶SiOx纳米管状结构．在室温中,利用260 nm的激发光源激发SiOx纳米管,发现在蓝光波段附近发出强而稳定的PL谱线,这可能与样品中的氧缺陷和空位有关．

Fiber-optic reflex sensor for in-line production measurement

The paper describes experiments concerning distance measurement with fiber-optic sensor and improvement of the measurement principle. The sensor probe was well-designed with a small structure and multi-function. The novel optical fiber probe arrangement as well as the possibilities of use for complex measurement problems are explained using the measurement of an internal screw thread as an example. The experimental results show that the measurement uncertainty of the thread minor diameter can reach ±10 μm, and the stability of the measurement system is better than 0.07%.     

A Modified Quasi-Newton Method for Structured Optimization with Partial Information on the Hessian

This paper develops a modified quasi-Newton method for structured unconstrained optimization with partial information on the Hessian, based on a better approximation to the Hessian in current search direction. The new approximation is decided by both function values and gradients at the last two iterations unlike the original one which only uses the gradients at the last two iterations. The modified method owns local and superlinear convergence. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method is encouraging comparing with the methods proposed in [4] for structured unconstrained optimization Presented at the 6th International Conference on Optimization: Techniques and Applications, Ballarat, Australia, December 9–11, 2004     

Acoustic reflection from a baffled elastic/piezoelectric plate

A finite difference/boundary integral procedure to determine the acoustic reflected pressure from a fluid-loaded bi-laminated plate is described. The bi-laminate is composed of a piezoelectric layer and an elastic layer in contact with the fluid, and is held by an acoustically hard baffle. In the numerical model, the fluid pressure at fluid/solid interface is replaced by a continuum of point sources weighted by the normal acceleration of the elastic plate, and the governing equation system is solved in the solid domain. With the normal acceleration found, the reflected pressure in the fluid is determined by an integral expression involving the Green's function. It is demonstrated that an appropriate applied voltage potential across the piezoelectric layer has the effect of cancelling either the reflected or scattered pressure of the plate at any chosen field points in the fluid. Polytetrafluoroethylene and metal structure convective-flow CO laser

A convective flow CO laser composed of polytetrafluoroethylene discharge tubes, nickel–chromium steel components, a cupric heat exchanger and other components is described. Operating in liquid nitrogen condition, output power of 60 W has been obtained from a non-selective cavity.     

A study on the electrical conductivity of multi-walled carbon nanotube aqueous solution

The electrical conductivity was investigated for multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) dissolved in chloroform and toluene, respectively. The electrical conductivity remarkably increased with increase in the content of MWNTs, which is in accordance with Archie's equation . Furthermore, a hypothesis of the electronic transport process was proposed to explain the difference between the solution and the solid compound. In addition, the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity shows that log σ vs. 1/T exist in a good linear relationship. The activation energy of the electrical conductivity decreased with increase in concentration and an inflexion was observed at 60 °C in MWNT/toluene solution.
