Summary Besides functional behaviour of coatings their resistivity against corroding attack is a crucial criterion for quality. The application of special corroding and abrading tests yields after short times predictions about stability of the product in practical use. A number of tests have been applied to thin magnetic storage media. Besides tests of function and visual observations with light- and scanning electron microscopes, AES- and XPS-investigations were applied to discuss corrosion resistivity.

Functorial methods in the theory of group representations I

We introduce a candidate for the group algebra of a Hausdorff group which plays the same role as the group algebra of a finite group. It allows to define a natural bijection betweenk-continuous representations of the group in a Hilbert space and continuous representations of the group algebra. Such bijections are known, but to our knowledge only for locally compact groups. We can establish such a bijection for more general groups, namely Hausdorff groups, because we replace integration techniques by functorial methods, i.e., by using a duality functor which lives in certain categories of topological Banach balls (resp., unit balls of Saks spaces).This paper was written while the authors were supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation under grant 21-33644.92.     

Mössbauer spectroscopic study of core and mantle of rattle stones

Mössbauer spectroscopy has been applied to two rattle stones found in the Netherlands, which have been formed under different pedoenvironment conditions in the past. Ultrafine particles of goethite are dominantly present in both core and mantle of these stones. The latter differs in both composition and mean particle size; this is related to the distinct manner of their formation.

Convex polytopes whose projection bodies and difference sets are polars

In a paper by the author and B. Weissbach it was proved that the projection body and the difference set of ad-simplex (d≥2) are polars. Obviously, ford=2 a convex domain has this property if and only if its difference set is bounded by a so-called Radon curve. A natural question emerges about further classes of convex bodies inR ^d (d≥3) inducing the mentioned polarity. The aim of this paper is to show that a convexd-polytope (d≥3) is a simplex if and only if its projection body and its difference set are polars.
