Uniqueness of supporting hyperplanes and an alternative to solutions of variational inequalities

A uniqueness theorem of supporting hyperplanes for a class of convex level sets in a Hilbert space is obtained. As an application of this result, we prove an alternative theorem on solutions of variational inequalities defined on convex level sets. Three examples are given to demonstrate the usefulness and advantages of our alternative theorem.     

On Statistical Properties of Hyperbolic Systems with Singularities

We study hyperbolic systems with singularities and prove the coupling lemma and exponential decay of correlations under weaker assumptions than previously adopted in similar studies. Our new approach allows us to study the mixing rates of the reduced map for certain billiard models that could not be handled by the traditional techniques. These models include modified Bunimovich stadia, which are bounded by minor arcs, and flower-type regions that are bounded by major arcs.     

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a Mixed-Ligand Cobalt(II) Complex with 2-Aminobenzimidazole

Abstract  The cobalt(II) complex, [Co(abz)₂(SCN)₂] 1, has been synthesized by the reaction of cobalt(II) nitrate with ammonium thiocyanate and abz ligands (abz = 2-aminobenzimidazole), and was fully structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric experiments. It crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group with a = 8.6316(10), b = 9.3426(10), c = 13.254(2) ?, α = 95.793(2), β = 95.870(2), γ = 115.7380(10), V = 945.1(2) ?³, and Z = 2. The central cobalt(II) atom is four-coordinated to nitrogen donors from two neutral abz ligands and two isothiocyanate anions respectively, adopting a slightly distorted tetrahedral geometry. In addition, the intermolecular N–H···N and N–H···S hydrogen bonds interactions link the discrete mononuclear units into infinite three-dimensional networks. Fixed points of semigroups of Lipschitzian mappings defined on nonconvex domains

Certain fixed point theorems are established for nonlinear semigroups of Lipschitzian mappings defined on nonconvex domains in Hilbert and Banach spaces. Some known results are thus generalized.     

Novel Ag2S nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide sheets as a super-efficient catalyst for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Here,Ag_2S nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide(Ag_2S NPs/RGO) nanocomposites with relatively good distribution are synthesized for the first time by conversing Ag NPs/RGO to Ag_2S NPs/RGO via a facile hydrothermal sulfurization method.As an noval catalyst for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol(4-NP),it only takes 5 min for Ag_2S NPs/RGO to reduce 98% of 4-NP,and the rate constant of the composites is almost 13 times higher than that of Ag NPs/RGO composites.The high catalytic activity of Ag_2S NPs/RGO can be attributed to the following three reasons:(1) Like metal complex catalysts,the Ag_2S NPs is also rich with metal center Ag(δ~+),with pendant base S(δ) close to it,and thus the Ag and basic S function as the electron-acceptor and proton-acceptor centers,respectively,which facilitates the catalyst reaction;(2)RGO features the high adsorption ability toward 4-NP which provides a high concentration of 4-NP near the Ag_2S NPs;and(3) electron transfer from RGO to Ag_2S NPs,facilitating the uptake of electrons by 4-NP molecules.
