Picosecond study of energy transfer between rhodamine 6G and 3,3'-diethylthiacarbocyanine iodide in the premicellar region: förster mechanism with increased local concentration

The mechanism of enhancement in the energy transfer between rhodamine 6G and 3,3'-diethylthiacarbocyanine iodide by sodium lauryl sulfate in the premicellar region was studied by a picosecond laser technique. The Forster mechanism with an increased local concentration suggesting dye-rich induced micelle formation was concluded from the shape of the decay curve.     

Spectra and emission lifetimes of H2CS(Ã 1A2)

Fluorescence spectra and lifetimes of single vibronic levels of the first excited singlet state of H₂CS have been measured under effusive flow conditions. Fluorescence lifetimes of the single vibronic levels decrease from 140±3 μs (0°) to 68 μs(3¹4¹5¹) with increasing excitation energies. The promoting vibrational modes for the non-radiative transition are considered to be the out-of-plane bending (ν₄) and the asymmetric rocking (ν₆) modes rather than the asymmetric stretching mode (ν₅).

Contraction of supramolecular double-threaded dimer formed by alpha-cyclodextrin with a long alkyl chain

Switchable different operation states in an erbium-doped fiber laser cavity with normal dispersion

We demonstrate different operation states which can be switched by the polarization control in an erbium-doped fiber laser cavity with normal dispersion, including passive single-pulse and multiple-pulse mode-locking, coherent pulse pattern, and passive Q-switching. The mode-locked single pulse has a smooth and broad rectangular-shaped spectrum. With increasing pump power, multiple pulses appear and finally six pulses are observed, where the pulses have no interaction with each other. Keeping the pump power at 407 mW and adjusting the polarization state, we observe the coherent pulse pattern with the pulse numbers from 2 to 5. It is the first time five coherent pulses in the 1.55 μm normal dispersion cavity have been observed, to our knowledge. The mode-locked spectra are highly modulated and the largest pulse separation of 31.9 ps is observed for the two-pulse case. When the pump power exceeds 180 mW, the mode-locked operation can be switched to the passively Q-switched operation by controlling the polarization state. The repetition rate and pulse width can be changed by pump power variation, and the spectrum is tunable in the range of 8.45 nm.     

Characterization of NIES CRM No. 23 Tea Leaves II for the determination of multielements

A candidate environmental certified reference material (CRM) for the determination of multielements in tea leaves and materials of similar matrix, NIES CRM No. 23 Tea Leaves II, has been developed and characterized by the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan. The origin of the material was tea leaves, which were ground, sieved through a 106-μm mesh, homogenized, and then subdivided into amber glass bottles. The results of homogeneity and stability tests indicated that the material was sufficiently homogeneous and stable for use as a reference material. The property values of the material were statistically determined based on chemical analyses by a network of laboratories using a wide range of methods. Sixteen laboratories participated in the characterization, and nine certified values and five reference values were obtained. These property values of the candidate CRM, which are expressed as mass fractions, were close to the median and/or mean values of the mass fractions of elements in various tea products. The candidate CRM is appropriate for use in analytical quality control and in the evaluation of methods used in the analysis of tea and materials of similar matrix.
