Colloidal silica suspensions are widely used in many fields, including environmental restoration, oil drilling, and food and medical industries. To control the rheological property of suspensions, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) polymers are often used. Under specific conditions, the silica-PEO suspension can create a phenomenon called a shake-gel. Previous works discussed the conditions necessary to form a shake-gel and suggested that the bridging effect of the polymer is one of the important mechanisms for shake-gel formation. However, we noted that the influence of PEO size compared to the separation distance between silica particles regarding shake-gel formation has not been systematically investigated, while the PEO size should be larger than the particle–particle separation distance for polymer bridging in order to form gels. Thus, we conducted a series of experiments to examine the effects of the radius of gyration of the PEO and the distance between the silica particles by controlling the PEO molecular weight and the silica concentration. Our results elucidated that the radius of gyration of the PEO should be 2.5 times larger than the distance between the silica surfaces in order to promote the formation of a shake-gel. This result supports the hypothesis that the bridging effect is the main cause of shake-gel formation, which can help us to understand the conditions necessary for shake-gel preparation. 相似文献

We have studied several protecting groups for vinylboronic-acid derivatives as monomers in radical polymerizations with the objective to improve the polymerization ability and C–B bond-cleaving post-transformation performance. Anthranilamide (aam)-protected vinylboronic acid (VBaam) exhibited experimentally a relatively high polymerization activity, which was theoretically corroborated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations that revealed a peculiar effect of the interaction between the aam groups on the polymerization behavior. The VBaam units in the copolymers can subsequently be transformed into vinyl alcohols or into ethylene units through C–B-bond-cleaving side-chain replacement, which affords valuable copolymers such as poly(vinyl alcohol-co-styrene), poly(ethylene-co-styrene), and poly(ethylene-co-acrylate).We designed a vinyl-boronic-acid protected by anthranilamide as a “transformable” monomer in radical polymerization to synthesize conventionally inaccessible copolymers, such as poly(vinyl alcohol-co-styrene) and poly(ethylene-co-acrylate). 相似文献

The stability of singly or multiply negatively charged π-conjugated organic compounds is greatly influenced by their electronic delocalization. Herein, we report a strategic methodology for isolation of a mysterious compound. The isolated compounds, a pyreno[4,5-b]pyrrole monoanion and pyreno[4,5-b:9,10-b′]dipyrrole dianion, were highly stable under ambient conditions due to high delocalization of the negative charge over multiple electron deficient C N groups and pyrene π-scaffolds and allowed purification by column chromatography. To our knowledge, this is the first report on TCNE type reductive condensation of malononitrile involving pyrene di- and tetraone and formation of pyrenopyrrole. All compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. A UV-vis spectroscopic study shows an intense low energy absorption band with a large absorption coefficient (ε).An ambient stable pyreno[4,5-b]pyrrole monoanion and pyreno[4,5-b:9,10-b′]dipyrrole dianion have been isolated and characterized, showing a low energy intense absorption band with the absorption coefficient reaching 7.1 × 104 dm3 mol−1 cm−1. 相似文献

A mixed-valent trinuclear complex with 1,3-bis(5-chlorosalicylideneamino)-2-propanol (H3clsalpr) was synthesized, and the crystal structure was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method at 90 K. The molecule is a trinuclear CoIII-CoII-CoIII complex with octahedral geometries, having a tetradentate chelate of the Schiff-base ligand, bridging acetate, monodentate acetate coordination to each terminal Co3+ ion and four bridging phenoxido-oxygen of two Schiff-base ligands, and two bridging acetate-oxygen atoms for the central Co2+ ion. The electronic spectral feature is consistent with the mixed valent CoIII-CoII-CoIII. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data could be analyzed by consideration of the axial distortion of the central Co2+ ion with the parameters Δ = –254 cm−1, λ = –58 cm−1, κ = 0.93, tip = 0.00436 cm3 mol−1, θ = –0.469 K, gz = 6.90, and gx = 2.64, in accordance with a large anisotropy. The cyclic voltammogram showed an irreversible reduction wave at approximately −1.2 V·vs. Fc/Fc+, assignable to the reduction of the terminal Co3+ ions. 相似文献

A new supramolecular electrocatalyst for Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) was synthesized from a central multibridging cobalt tetrapyridylporphyrazine (CoTPyPz) species by attaching four [Ru(bpy)2Cl]+ groups. Both CoTPyPz and the tetraruthenated cobalt porphyrazine species, TRuCoTPyPz, form very homogenous molecular films just by dropcasting their methanol solutions onto GCE electrodes. Such films exhibited low overpotentials for O2 evolution, e.g., 560 e 340 mV, respectively, displaying high stability, typically exceeding 15 h. The kinetic parameters obtained from the Tafel plots showed that the peripheral complexes are very important for the electrocatalytic activity. Hyperspectral Raman images taken along the electrochemical process demonstrated that the cobalt center is the primary active catalyst site, but its performance is enhanced by the ruthenium complexes, which act as electron-donating groups, in the supramolecular system. 相似文献

Abstract Electrochemical evolution of hydrogen gas, oxygen gas and chlorine at the electrodes is the usual reaction in conventional electrolysis of aqueous salt solution. However, here we demonstrate that the electrolysis governing reaction in hydrothermal solutions is different from the electrolysis performed at atmospheric pressure and temperatures up to 100°C. Experimental electrolytic reaction of aqueous salt solution carried out inside a sealed 300-mL batch autoclave showed that; accumulation of hydrogen gas, oxygen gas and chlorine is highly suppressed under hydrothermal (250°C and 7 MPa) conditions. We have also observed that, when organics are present in the aqueous salt solution being hydrothermally electrolyzed, an effective oxidation of organics is accomplished. Furthermore, for hydrothermal electrolytic oxidation (HEO) with oxygen gas added, experimentally observed TOC removal profile demonstrates apparent anodic oxidation electrical current efficiency of almost 200% for highconcentrated acetic acid solutions. 相似文献

Using a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) technique, we synthesized diamond/SiC composites from diamond and Si powders. At an HIP condition of 1450 °C and 100 MPa, a pressure much lower than that of the diamond stability field, diamond powders react with molten Si to form well-sintered diamond/SiC composites. Cubes of the composites with 15 mm edge length were thereby fabricated, and an application to the second stage anvils in a Kawai-type high-pressure apparatus was attempted. A hybrid anvils system using four cubes of the composites and four of the conventional WC was introduced and heating experiments up to 1600 °C became possible. Because the diamond/SiC composites are transparent to X-rays, the present system is applicable not only to diffraction studies but also to radiographic studies that need a larger window for an X-ray image. 相似文献

In pancreatic islet cell culture models and animal models, we studied the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of insulin-dependent diabetes. The diabetogenic agents, alloxan and streptozotocin, caused DNA strand breaks, which in turn activated poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase/synthetase (PARP) to deplete NAD+, thereby inhibiting islet β-cell functions such as proinsulin synthesis and ultimately leading to β-cell necrosis. Radical scavengers protected against the formation of DNA strand breaks and inhibition of proinsulin synthesis. Inhibitors of PARP prevented the NAD+ depletion, inhibition of proinsulin synthesis and β-cell death. These findings led to the proposed unifying concept for β-cell damage and its prevention (the Okamoto model). The model met one proof with PARP knockout animals and was further extended by the discovery of cyclic ADP-ribose as the second messenger for Ca2+ mobilization in glucose-induced insulin secretion and by the identification of Reg (Regenerating gene) for β-cell regeneration. Physiological and pathological events found in pancreatic β-cells have been observed in other cells and tissues. 相似文献
