A tissue-equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) has been used as a dosimeter in mixed radiation fields. Since it does not measure LET directly, the response function must be characterized in order to estimate quality factor and thus equivalent dose for the incident radiation. The objectives of this study were to measure the response of a spherical TEPC for different high-energy heavy ions (HZE) having similar velocity and to determine how quality factors can be determined. Data were obtained at the HIMAC heavy ion accelerator for 4He and 12C at (β=0.59) and 12C, 16O, 28Si and 56Fe at (β=0.70). A particle spectrometer recorded the charge and position of each incident beam particle. Events with low energy deposition were observed for particles that passed through the wall of the TEPC but not through the sensitive volume. The frequency averaged lineal energy, , was always less than the LET of the incident particles. The dose averaged lineal energy, , was approximately equal to LET for particles with LET greater than 10 keV/μm, whereas was larger than LET for the lighter particles with lower LET. Part of this effect is due to detector resolution and energy straggling that increases the variance of the response function. Although the TEPC is not a LET spectrometer, it can provide real time measurements of dose and provide estimates of quality factors for HZE particles using averaged values of lineal energy. 相似文献

Electrical conducitivities of both ferricytochrome c and ferrocytochrome c anhydrous films were measured at physiological temperatures. A film-casting method was applied to prepare the films. Rather low values of resistivities (55°C) of 6.5 × 1010 Ω cm for ferrocytochrome c in comparison with the previously reported value of 1011 Ω cm (127°C) were obtained. Magnetic characteristics of SmMn2Ge2 with a layer structure have been studied by magnetization measurements using single crystal. In the sequence of decreasing temperature, ferromagnetism is observed at 196 K ? T ? 348 K, collinear antiferromagnetism becomes stable for 64 K ? T < 196 K and reentrant ferromagnetism appears below 64 K. Summary A new interelement correction method has been developed for the X-ray fluorescent determination of chromium in high-alloy steels and nickel-base alloys. The calibration equation which was derived from the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) model is applicable over wide ranges of compositions by preparation of only Fe-Cr binary standards.The new approach gave better accuracy than that based on Rasberry-Heinrich correction model. The accuracies (d) were 0.08% for high-alloy steels and 0.14% for nickel-base alloys.

The chromatographic behaviour in aqueous solution of pullulans, polyethylene glycols, peptides and proteins with different molecular weights on newly developed polyvinyl alcohol columns (Asahipak GS column series: GS-310, GS-320, GS-510 and GS-520) has been investigated. Pullulans and polyethylene glycols eluted according to the gel filtration mode, so both series of compounds produced almost equal calibration curves for GS-310 and GS-320 and for GS-510 and GS-520; the exclusion limits on GS-310 and GS-320 and on GS-510 and GS-520 were found to be ca. 40,000 and 300,000, respectively. Peptides and proteins were found to adsorb slightly on the columns. However, the plots of the elution volumes against the logarithm of the molecular weights for many of the substrates tested gave rise to the linear calibration curves. Recovery of several crude proteins was also studied for the columns and high values were obtained (81–100%). The effects of changes in the flow-rate, temperature and concentration of electrolytes added to the eluents, on the retention of all four types of compound are also reported. 相似文献
