The vocal tract shape is three-dimensionally complex. For accurate acoustic analysis, a finite-difference time-domain method was introduced in the present study. By this method, transfer functions of the vocal tract for the five Japanese vowels were calculated from three-dimensionally reconstructed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. The calculated transfer functions were compared with those obtained from acoustic measurements of vocal tract physical models precisely constructed from the same MRI data. Calculated transfer functions agreed well with measured ones up to 10 kHz. Acoustic effects of the piriform fossae, epiglottic valleculae, and inter-dental spaces were also examined. They caused spectral changes by generating dips. The amount of change was significant for the piriform fossae, while it was almost negligible for the other two. The piriform fossae and valleculae generated spectral dips for all the vowels. The dip frequencies of the piriform fossae were almost stable, while those of the valleculae varied among vowels. The inter-dental spaces generated very small spectral dips below 2.5 kHz for the high and middle vowels. In addition, transverse resonances within the oral cavity generated small spectral dips above 4 kHz for the low vowels.  相似文献

A new experiment named MTV-G, probing a large electron spin-precession due to a possible strong gravitational field, which predicted by large extra dimension model, is started at TRIUMF from 2011. In an electron-nuclear scattering experiment, a strong gravitational field is tested as a large spin precession effect caused by geodetic precession predicted by general relativity theory as a result of a warped space-time around nuclei. Experimental design using spin polarized electron source and Mott-spin analyzer, commissioning experiment and the preliminary results are described.  相似文献

A small degree of nonuniformity in dialysate flow in a hollow-fiber dialyzer was detected using proton magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Since paramagnetic ions reduce the spin-lattice relaxation time of protons around them, MRI can detect Gd in water. An aqueous solution of a chelate compound of Gd was impulsively injected into the dialysate flow path at a flow rate of 500 cm(3) /m, which is that utilized in actual dialysis. Despite the apparent elimination of Gd from the dialysate flow path by the newly injected dialysate fluid after the injection of Gd was terminated, MRI revealed that Gd remained in the interior of the hollow fiber. The observed structure pattern of the Gd concentration profile revealed that the dialysate flow had a small degree of nonuniformity despite the currently established design to restrict channeling in dialysate flow. Local nonuniformity of the hollow-fiber density and vortex generation in the dialysate flow were considered to cause the nonuniformity in the dialysate flow.  相似文献

A biphenyl-fused BODIPY was synthesized through a facile oxidative cyclization of peripheral aryl-substituents at the β-position of the BODIPY unit. The extended π-system of the fused BODIPY induces near-infrared (NIR) absorption and strong π-π interactions in the solid state. These features are beneficial for the application of the dye as a functional material. The biphenyl-fused BODIPY dye was demonstrated to exhibit photocurrent conversion ability on the basis of its n-type semiconducting property.  相似文献

Background and Purpose

Influenza viral infection, which results in central nervous system dysfunction, is a major cause of acute encephalopathy (AE). The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the concentrations of brain metabolites in children with AE using single-voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and to provide diagnostic information about the relationship between the symptoms of AE and metabolite concentrations.

Materials and Methods

The subjects were 10 children (mean age: 6.2 years; range: 1–13) with AE caused by the novel influenza A virus responsible for the 2009 influenza pandemic. The serial MRS data (TE/TR=30/5000 ms, 3 T) acquired from the basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CS) of each patient were categorized into three periods: (1) initial neurological symptom presentation and the start of treatment (n= 10), (2) short-term follow-up (n= 9) and (3) long-term follow-up (n= 3). As controls, the magnetic resonance (MR) spectra of eight age-matched children were also investigated.

Results

In both regions, the concentrations of the major metabolites (N-acetylaspartate, creatine, choline, myo-inositol, glutamate/glutamine complex and glutamate) only showed minor fluctuations between the three periods. On the other hand, higher levels of taurine (Tau) were observed in the BG during the second period (P=.005), and increased levels of glucose were observed in the CS during the first (P=.005) and second (P=.036) periods.

Conclusions

Serial monitoring of brain metabolite changes was carried out with a clinical MR system. The concentrations of major metabolites only displayed very minor fluctuations in response to mild H1N1-related AE. However, a higher Tau concentration was found to be associated with neurological symptoms. Further studies are required to improve our understanding of the detailed activity of Tau in AE.  相似文献

This paper examines possible differences in auditors’ performance when they make belief-based versus probability-based risk assessments by focusing on two phases of the financial statement audit process: the assessment of two attributes of audit evidence (‘strength’ and ‘direction’) and the aggregation of evidence. Based on an experiment in which 48 experienced auditors participated, three important findings were observed. First, there was no significant difference in the mean assessment of strength of evidence measured using the likelihood ratio. However, the difference in the assessed direction of evidence, that is whether the evidence is interpreted as being confirming or disconfirming, is significant for one of the cases examined. This result shows that auditors making belief-based assessments are able to assess the direction of the evidence more accurately than auditors making probability-based assessments. Third, the auditors’ aggregation of evidence was not in accordance with ‘AND’ logic for either auditors making belief-based or probability-based assessments. These empirical results raise issues which need to be addressed in practice and in future research.  相似文献

Effects of deposition conditions on the structure of microcrystalline silicon carbide (μc-SiC) films prepared by hot-wire chemical vapor deposition (hot-wire CVD) method have been investigated. It is found from X-ray diffraction patterns of the film that a diffraction peak from crystallites from hexagonal polytypes of SiC is observed in addition to those of 3 C-SiC crystallites. This result is obtained in the film under a narrow deposition conditions of SiH3CH3 gas pressure of 8 Pa, the H2 gas pressure of 80–300 Pa and the total gas pressure of 40–300 Pa under fixed substrate and filament temperatures employed in this study. Furthermore, the grain size of hexagonal crystallites (about 20 nm) on c-Si substrates becomes larger than that of 3 C-SiC crystallites (about 10 nm) for the films deposited under the total gas pressure of 36–88 Pa. The fact that microcrystalline hexagonal SiC can be deposited under limited deposition conditions could be interpreted in the context of a result for c-SiC polytypes prepared by thermal CVD method.  相似文献

The chelating agent EDTA is widely used, and as a result is showing up widely in the aquatic environment. Here we describe a preconcentration procedure for measuring EDTA concentration in sea water samples by HPLC. The procedure consists of forming an Fe(III) complex followed by solid-phase extraction using an activated carbon cartridge. After the preconcentration, EDTA was quantified by HPLC with ultraviolet detection (260 nm). The enrichment permitted the determination of EDTA at concentrations as low as 1 nM. Good recoveries were obtained for both brackish and full-strength sea water with high repeatability (RSD < 6%). The method was applied to sea water samples taken from near the mouth of the Oyabe River in Japan.  相似文献

A collinear irradiation system of F2 and KrF excimer lasers for high-quality and high-efficiency ablation of hard materials by the F2 and KrF excimer lasers’ multi-wavelength excitation process has been developed. This system achieves well-defined micropatterning of fused silica with little thermal influence and little debris deposition. In addition, the dependence of ablation rate on various conditions such as laser fluence, irradiation timing of each laser beam, and pulse number is examined to investigate the role of the F2 laser in this process. The multi-wavelength excitation effect is strongly affected by the irradiation timing, and an extremely high ablation rate of over 30 nm/pulse is obtained between -10 ns and 10 ns of the delay time of F2 laser irradiation. The KrF excimer laser ablation threshold decreases and its effective absorption coefficient increases with increasing F2 laser fluence. Moreover, the ablation rate shows a linear increase with the logarithm of KrF excimer laser fluence when the F2 laser is simultaneously irradiated, while single KrF excimer laser ablation shows a nonlinear increase.
