We employ the heat kernel method to evaluate the effective potential of theSU(2) gauge theory (with scalar triplet) when both external magnetic field and temperature are applied to it. The calculation is performed in high temperature approximation.     

Kaluza-Klein theory from the viewpoint of gauge theory of gravity

We consider Kaluza-Klein theory based on the fiber bundle. We obtain the modified Kaluza-Klein metric as an invariant line element of a bundle. Its reduced action includes a higher derivative action in gravitation as well as a term linear inR.     

Reversed-phase HPLC separation of the enantiomers of denopamine after derivatization with GITC chiral reagent

Summary A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed to determine the optical purity of denopamine, which is a new cardiotonic agent having an asymmetric carbon in a molecule. The enantiomers were converted to diastereomeric thiourea derivatives using 2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-acetyl--D-glucopyranosyl isothiocyanate (GITC) reagent. Separation of the enantiomers of denopamine as diastereomers was successfully achieved by reversed-phase HPLC within 10 min using an ODS column and UV detection. Derivatization of denopamine proceeded rapidly under the alkaline conditions and the ambient temperature. This method was applied to the determination of the optical purity of denopamine drug substances and those in tablets. The favorable UV absorption of the derivatives enabled the optical antipode to be determined down to the 0.2% level.     

Selective separation of water–alcohol binary mixture through poly(maleimide-co-acrylonitrile) membrane

Separation of various alcohols and water through a membrane was carried out by means of a hydrogen-bonding interaction. A membrane obtained from poly(maleimide-co-acrylonitrile) was effective for a selective separation of water from aqueous alcohol solution by pervaporation technique. Spectroscopic analyses verified that this high selectivity was attributed to the hydrogen-bonding interaction between water and maleimide units in the membrane.     

Total synthesis of gliotoxin,dehydrogliotoxin and hyalodendrin

Two general methods, Method A and Method B in Scheme 19, to synthesize epidithiapiperazinediones, are described. A total synthesis of racemic and optically active gliotoxin (1) and of racemic dehydrogliotoxin (53) was achieved by using Method A, whereas a total synthesis of racemic hyalodendrin (52) was completed by using Method B.     

Two dimensional wigner crystallization caused by magnetic field

It is discussed that two dimensional electrons can crystallize by the application of magnetic field. The critical field, H_c, above which the crystalline state is expected, is evaluated at absolute zero as a function of the carrier density, n, by use of the Lindeman's Law. The theoretical results are discussed in connection to the recent experiment by Kawaji and Wakabayashi.     

Pair breaking parameter of two-dimensional dirty superconductors

Intrinsic mechanism of pair breaking is given for dirty superconducting films. Dynamical interaction between electrons such as Coulomb interaction plays an essential role. The diffusion processes of both density- and pair-fluctuations are also important. The problem of the Thompson's parameter for the Maki term of fluctuation conductivity is solved and the correct dependence of the parameter of the sheet resistance R_sq is given.
