Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is an intractable chronic inflammatory disease. We studied the efficacy of two ellagitannins, namely camptothin B (1) and cornusiin A (2) that were isolated from Cornus alba (CA) for the treatment of BPH, which is a common health issue in older men. The ellagitannins (1 and 2) were evaluated on its inhibitory activities of the enzyme 5α-reductase and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, its interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 production, and its anti-proliferation and apoptosis induction in prostate cells that show hypertrophy (RWPE-1 cell). In inhibition of 5α-reductase, the ellagitannins (1 and 2) showed potential effects, compared to the positive control, finasteride. In the case of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α, 1 and 2 showed good inhibitory effects as compared to the control group treated with LPS. The ellagitannins (1 and 2) were also shown to inhibit proliferation of, and induce apoptosis in, the RWPE-1 cell. These results suggest that the ellagitannins (1 and 2) may be good candidates for the treatment of BPH.  相似文献

The highly strained bowl-shaped pentacyclic structure of herquline A has rendered it one of the most difficult problems in organic synthesis yet to be solved. The challenges associated with the synthesis of herquline A have been well documented in four Ph.D. dissertations and in multiple reports regarding syntheses of its structurally simpler congeners. Herein, we report the construction of the pentacyclic core of herquline A that contains both N10−C2 and C3−C3′ bonds. The key for success was the development of the tandem aza-Michael addition/enolate capture protocol that set the stage for subsequent palladium catalyzed C3(sp2)−C3′(sp2) coupling reaction. Ensuing oxidative dearomatization of the left aryl ring allowed the formation of the pentacyclic diketone core of herquline A.  相似文献

South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has been developing programs for the inspection and accreditation of food sanitation inspection institutions. Food sanitation inspection institutions such as MFDS regional offices, the Research Institute of Public Health and Environment and authorized private service providers in South Korea must participate in proficiency testing (PT) programs to comply with the Food Sanitation Act and MFDS Notification No. 2012-112. As the PT provider, the MFDS annually plans various microbiological and chemical PT programs for foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043. The aim of this project was to evaluate the performance of microbiological PT programs to ensure the quality of their routine test results. The test materials used were freeze-dried BioBalls from BTF Pty Ltd. Homogeneity and stability were investigated to assess the adequacy of the selected test materials. This project also contains data from inter-laboratory comparisons organized by MFDS in 2011 and 2012. More than 50 laboratories attended the PT program and submitted their results. Laboratory results were rated with z-scores according to the international standard ISO 13528. The results from 2011 and 2012 revealed that all participating laboratories had similar levels of proficiency. Most of the participants received a rating of “Satisfactory.” Moreover, the percentage of participants who received a rating of “Unsatisfactory” decreased from 3.5 % in 2011 to 2.0 % in 2012.  相似文献

Hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress accelerates endothelial cell dysfunctions, which cause various complications of diabetes. The protective effects of 6,6′-bieckol (BEK), one of phlorotannin compound purified from Ecklonia cava against high-glucose-induced oxidative stress was investigated using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), which is susceptible to oxidative stress. High glucose (30 mM) treatment induced HUVECs’ cell death, but BEK, at concentration 10 or 50 μg/ml, significantly inhibited the high-glucose-induced cytotoxicity. Furthermore, treatment with BEK dose-dependently decreased thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, and nitric oxide level increased by high glucose. In addition, high glucose levels induced the overexpressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) proteins in HUVECs, but BEK treatment reduced the overexpressions of these proteins. These findings indicate that BEK is a potential therapeutic agent that will prevent diabetic endothelial dysfunction and related complications.  相似文献

In this work, the latent thermal cationic initiators triphenyl benzyl phosphonium hexafluoroantimonate (TBPH) and benzyl‐2‐methylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BMPH) were newly synthesized and characterized with IR, 1H NMR, and P NMR spectroscopy. The thermal and mechanical properties of difunctional epoxy [diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)] resins cured by 1 phr of either TBPH or BMPH were investigated. The DGEBA/TBPH system showed a higher curing temperature and a higher critical stress intensity factor than the epoxy/BMPH system. This could be interpreted in terms of the slow thermal diffusion rate and bulk structure of the four phenyl groups in TBPH. However, the decomposition activation energy derived from the Coats–Redfern method was lower for epoxy/TBPH. This result was probably due to the fact that a broken short‐chain structure was developed by the steric hindrance of TBPH in the difunctional epoxy resin. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The growth of c-axis oriented ZnO thin films on c-plane Al2O3 via molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) using dilute ozone (O3) as an oxygen source was investigated. Four-circle X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicates that films grown at 350 °C are epitaxial with respect to the substrate, but with a broad in-plane and out-of-plane mosaic. The films were highly conductive and n-type. Epitaxial film growth required relatively high Zn flux and O3/O2 pressure. The growth rate decreased rapidly as growth temperature was increased above 350 °C. The drop in growth rate with temperature reflects the low sticking coefficient of Zn at moderately high temperatures and limited ozone flux for the oxidation of the Zn metal. Characterization of the films included atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, and Hall measurements. These results show that molecular beam epitaxy of ZnO using ozone is rate limited by the ozone flux for growth temperatures above 350 °C.  相似文献

We present a plasmonic-based strategy for the colourimetric and spectroscopic differentiation of various organic acids produced by bacteria. The strategy is based on our discovery that particular concentrations of dl-lactic, acetic, and butyric acids induce different assembly structures, colours, and optical spectra of gold nanoparticles. We selected wild-type (K-12 W3110) and genetically-engineered (JHL61) Escherichia coli (E. coli) that are known to primarily produce acetic and butyric acid, respectively. Different assembly structures and optical properties of gold nanoparticles were observed when different organic acids, obtained after the removal of acid-producing bacteria, were mixed with gold nanoparticles. Moreover, at moderate cell concentrations of K-12 W3110 E. coli, which produce sufficient amounts of acetic acid to induce the assembly of gold nanoparticles, a direct estimate of the number of bacteria was possible based on time-course colour change observations of gold nanoparticle aqueous suspensions. The plasmonic-based colourimetric and spectroscopic methods described here may enable onsite testing for the identification of organic acids produced by bacteria and the estimation of bacterial numbers, which have applications in health and environmental sciences.  相似文献

All‐solid‐state sodium‐ion batteries that operate at room temperature are attractive candidates for use in large‐scale energy storage systems. However, materials innovation in solid electrolytes is imperative to fulfill multiple requirements, including high conductivity, functional synthesis protocols for achieving intimate ionic contact with active materials, and air stability. A new, highly conductive (1.1 mS cm?1 at 25 °C, Ea=0.20 eV) and dry air stable sodium superionic conductor, tetragonal Na3SbS4, is described. Importantly, Na3SbS4 can be prepared by scalable solution processes using methanol or water, and it exhibits high conductivities of 0.1–0.3 mS cm?1. The solution‐processed, highly conductive solidified Na3SbS4 electrolyte coated on an active material (NaCrO2) demonstrates dramatically improved electrochemical performance in all‐solid‐state batteries.  相似文献

The crystallization behavior of microbially synthesized poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and its copolymers [P(HB-co-HHx)] containing 2.5, 3.4, and 12 mol % 3-hydroxyhexanoate (HHx) comonomer and the melting of the resultant crystals were studied in detail using time-resolved small-angle X-ray scattering and differential scanning calorimetry. The polyesters were found to undergo primary crystallization as well as secondary crystallization. In the primary crystallization, the thicknesses of the lamellar crystals were sensitive to the crystallization temperature, but no thickening was observed throughout the entire crystallization at a given temperature. The thickness of the lamellar crystals in the PHB homopolymer was always larger than that of the amorphous layers. In the copolymers, by contrast, the randomly distributed HHx comonomer units were found to be excluded from the lamellar crystals into the amorphous regions during the isothermal crystallization process. This interrupted the crystallization of the copolymer chains, resulting in the formation of lamellar crystals with thicknesses smaller than those of the amorphous layers. The lamellar crystals in the copolymers had lower electron densities compared to those formed in the PHB homopolymer. On the other hand, secondary crystallization favorably occurred during the later stage of isothermal crystallization in competition with the continuous primary crystallization, forming secondary crystals in amorphous regions, in particular in the amorphous layers between the primarily formed lamellar crystal stacks. Compared to the primarily formed lamellar crystals, the secondary crystals had short-range-ordered structures of smaller size, a broader size distribution, and a lower electron density.  相似文献
