Abstract

The determination of sulphur and heavy metals in plants is an integral part of many environmental studies. Pine needles (Pinus Sylvestris) have proved to be suitable air quality indicators for pollutants, especially for sulphur. This study was carried out in the vicinity of Kemi, a town situated on the Gulf of Bothnia in northern Finland. An industrial complex comprising two pulp and paper mills is located in the centre of the area. Scots pine (Pinus Sylvestris) needles were collected from 29 sampling sites. The samples were dried, homogenized and digested with nitric acid. The concentrations of the elements S, Fe, Zn, Ca, V, and Pb were determined by ICP-AES. According to our results pine needles (Pinus sylvestris) appear to be an ideal bioindicator and sampling material for identifying and assessing atmospheric sulphur pollution derived from pulp and paper mills and can complement the information provided by plant mapping studies around pulp and paper mills.  相似文献

A five‐arm star‐shaped poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) with terminal bromide groups was used as a macroinitiator for the atom transfer radical polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), resulting in five‐arm star‐shaped poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) block copolymers. The polymerization proceeded in a controlled way using a copper(I)bromide/pentamethyl diethylenetriamine catalytic system in acetonitrile as solvent. The hydrolysis of the tBA blocks of the amphiphilic star‐shaped PEO‐b‐PtBA block copolymer resulted in dihydrophilic star structures. The encapsulation of the star‐block copolymers and their release properties in acid environment have been followed by UV‐spectroscopy and color changes, using the dye methyl orange as a hydrophilic guest molecule. Characterization of the structures has been done by 1H NMR, size exclusion chromatography, MALDI‐TOF, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary In a method developed for the determination of phosphorus in aqueous solutions, phosphorus was changed to the phosphate form, coprecipitated with hydrated iron(III) oxide, bound with activated charcoal and measured by EDXRF. The detection limit was 0.89 mg P/g activated charcoal. The method was used to determine the total phosphorus content of a waste water sample from a paper mill. Investigation of two sample destruction methods, dry ashing/HCl digestion and persulphate oxidation, showed the former to be more suitable for our purpose.  相似文献

The tricoordinated cationic Cu(I) complex [Cu(kappa2-P,P'-DPEphos)(kappa1-P-DPEphos)][BF4] (1) (DPEphos = bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl) ether) containing a dangling phosphorus center was synthesized from the reaction of [Cu(CH3CN)4][BF4] with DPEphos in a 1:2 molar ratio in dichloromethane. When complex 1 is treated with MnO2, elemental sulfur, or selenium, the uncoordinated phosphorus atom undergoes oxidation to form a P=E bond resulting in the formation of complexes of the type [Cu(kappa2-P,P'-DPEphos)(kappa2-P,E-DPEphos-E)][BF4] (2, E = O; 3, E = S; 4, E = Se) containing a Cu-E bond. The zigzag polymeric CuI complex [Cu(kappa2-P,P'-DPEphos)(micro-4,4'-bpy)]n[BF4]n (5) was prepared by the reaction of [Cu(CH3CN)4][BF4] with DPEphos and 4,4'-bipyridine in an equimolar ratio. The stereochemical influences of DPEphos on its coordination behavior are examined by density functional theory calculations.  相似文献

We prove well-posedness of linear scalar conservation laws using only assumptions on the growth and the modulus of continuity of the velocity field, but not on its divergence. In this paper we study the solutions of the equation $$\Delta w- \frac{\alpha}{y}\partial_{y}w = 0,$$ where w is a complex valued function. This equation is related to the generalized axially symmetric potential theory which has been studied notably by Weinstein, see [12]. We have researched this equation earlier in higher dimensions in connection with the hyperbolic function theory. In this paper will see how this equation is related to the generalized analytic functions in the hyperbolic upper half-plane. We also study harmonic differential forms in the hyperbolic plane and using these we obtain special type of solutions for the preceding equation.  相似文献

High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) micro-fractionation was successfully coupled to an automated 45Ca2+ uptake assay using GH4C1 cells for the separation of natural product extracts and for the primary detection of their calcium antagonistic components. The reliability of the procedure was first established with a reference solution consisting of pure compounds with a known effect on the Ca2+ uptake. No loss of activity was observed to occur after HPLC micro-fractionation. Extracts of Peucedanum palustre and Pinus sylvestris, showing high and no inhibition of Ca2+ uptake as total extracts, respectively, were analysed and the inhibitory activity of the P. palustre extract could be traced to two components, identified as columbianadin and isoimperatorin. As expected, no significant inhibition was observed with the micro-fractionated P. sylvestris samples. In summary, the procedure was found to be applicable for primary detection of calcium antagonistic components in complex matrices and to significantly reduce the time previously needed for bioactivity-guided isolation.  相似文献
