Analysis of traces of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by adsorption on cobalt phthalocyanine and barium salts of sulphophthalocyanines followed by thermal desorption gas chromatograph

Small amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in aqueous solution were almost completely adsorbed on barium salts of copper (II) sulphophthalocyanines and cobalt (II) phthalocyanine, which were precipitated from the solution. Recoveries of the PAHs from the precipitates by thermal desorption gas chromatography were 71–95%. The method is useful for the concentration and analysis of medium molecular weight, thermally stable PAHs.     

Structures of americanol A and isoamericanol A having a neurotrophic property from the seeds of Phytolacca americana.

The structures of new neo-lignans, isoamericanol A (1) and americanol A (2) isolated from the seeds of Phytolacca americana have been elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and then confirmed by chemical correlation with the previously known isoamericanin A (3) and americanin A (4). Isoamericanol A, americanol A, and americanin A have been found to enhance choline acetyltransferase activity at 10(-5) M in a cultured neuronal cell system derived from fetal rat hemisphere.     

Synthesis,structure, and magnetic properties of the cobalt(<Emphasis Type="SmallCaps">II</Emphasis>) 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate layered coordination polymer

The reaction of Co(NO₃)₂·6H₂O with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H₃btc, trimesic acid) in DMF at 100 °C afforded the coordination polymer [Co₃(dmf)₆(btc)(Hbtc)(H₂btc)]··9H₂O (1) (dmf is N,N′-dimethylformamide, DMF). According to the X-ray diffraction study, the metal-organic coordination polymer is composed of planar honeycomb (6,3) networks, in which the organic benzenetricarboxylate anions and the inorganic Co²⁺ cations play a role of three-connected nodes. Disordered water molecules are intercalated between the layers. A study of the magnetic properties showed the presence of a weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the Co²⁺ ions (S = 3/2). Synthetic studies toward maytansinoids (2) a new strategy based on asymmetric induction by heteroconjugate addition of methyllithium onto pyranosyl hetero-olefins

The functionalized pyranosyl hetero-olefins $\text{4a}$, $\text{13}$ and $\text{15}$ received a remarkable diastereoselective addition of methyllithium to form $\text{threo}$ adducts, one of which was introduced into a possible synthetic intermediate as $\text{3}$ for maytansine ($\text{1}$) along Scheme I.     

Polyamine polymers from active hydrogen compounds,formaldehyde, and amines

Active hydrogen compounds such as hydroquinone (HQ), cyclohexanone (CH), acetophenone (AP), and 4,4′-methylene bis-N-methylaniline (MNA) polymerized with formaldehyde (F) and secondary diamines to produce Mannich base polyamine polymers. The HQ-containing polymers were oxidized to benzoquinone (BQ)-containing polymers and their redox properties were investigated in the desulfurization of hydrogen sulfide.     

Plasma polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene. III. Reproducibility and effects of substrate and reactor materials

Plasma polylmerization occurs in plasmas surrounded by surfaces and polymer formation is one of the complicated interactions that take place between active species and molecules which constitute surfaces and gas phases. Effects of reactor wall, substrate materials, flow rate, and discharge power on polymer formation, and properties of polymer deposits were investigated by ESCA, IR (infrared) spectroscopy, and the measurement of system pressure. The effect of surface is important at the initial stage of plasma polymerization which can be easily detected by the system pressure change; however, integrated properties such as IR spectroscopy and the deposition rate show the effect in a less pronounced manner. ESCA, which reflects the properties of surface (approximately 20 A? in depth), showed the effect of surface in an even less sensitive manner. The amount and properties (including the effects of surfaces) are dependent on plasma polymerization parameter W/FM(W, wattage; F, volume flow rate; and M, molecualar weight of monomer) and the location of deposition within a reactor. IR and ESCA data clearly showed the dependence of polymer properties on W/FM; i.e., increase of W and decrease of M to be equivalent. When all these factors were kept under control, the reproducibility of plasma polymerization was found to be excellent.     

Novel synthesis of heterocyclic spirans by tandem cycloaddition to sulfur-containing heterocumulenes

Novel Ni(C0)₄-promoted tandem cycloadditions of diphenylcyclo- propenone to isothiocyanates and to CS₂ were found to provide new heterocyclic spirans, pyrroline-2-one-5-spiro-5′-thiolene-4′-ones and a thiolene-2-one-5-spiro-5′-thiolene-4′-one, respectively, in moderate yields.
