Vibronic problem in the higher excited states of F-center in alkali halides

Vibronic problem in the higher excited states of F-center in alkali halidesA new approach to the vibronic problems of bound polaron is proposed, taking advantage of the spherical symmetry of the system. By applying the obtained formula to the analysis of the transient absorption spectra due to the transition from the relaxed excited state to higher excited states of F-center in alkali halides, a good fit between the theory and the experiments is obtained and the final states of the transition are assigned to be 3p state and its phonon side bands perturbed through vibronic coupling.     

Identification of gas emanated from human skin: methane, ethylene, and ethane.

We investigated whether methane, ethylene and ethane gas can be detected in gas emanating from human skin, which is called skin gas. Skin gas was collected with a homemade stainless-steel trap system, which was cooled with liquid nitrogen, and analyzed with a gas chromatograph fitted with a flame ionization detector (FID). Skin-gas samples were obtained by covering a hand for 30 min with a polyfluorovinyl bag in which pure helium gas was introduced. The bag, the trap system and GC were set up online to avoid any contamination by air. Methane, ethylene and ethane in skin gas were successfully collected at an average amount emanated for 30 min (from ten subjects) of 150 +/- 63, 20 +/- 11 and 17 +/- 8 [mean +/- SD] pg/cm2, respectively.     

Pyrolysis of amines: Infrared spectrum of methyleneimine

Methyleneimine was detected in the gas phase by a moderately high resolution infrared spectrometer as one of the intermediate species produced by a pyrolysis of amines. Observed vibrational frequencies of some isotopic derivatives have been combined with the ab initio values to reach a most reliable force constants set. Some other spectroscopic parameters, involving geometrical parameters and dipole moment derivatives, have also been calculated ab initio and compared with the observation. Its half-life in our experimental apparatus was about 10 min, which is much longer than the previously reported values, 0.1 or 10 sec.
