Electrostatic interaction between an ion-penetrable sphere and an ion-impenetrable sphere

The exact expression for the electrostatic interaction between an ionpenetrable sphere and an ion-impenetrable rigid sphere is derived on the basis of the linearized Poisson-Boltzmann equation without recourse to Derjaguin's approximation.     

Reactions of NH(a 1Δ) with propane in the gas phase

Reactions of electronically excited NH(a ¹Δ) with propane have been investigated in the gas phase at room temperature. Pressure dependence of the yields of insertion and fragmentation products was measured. The relative secondary/primary CH bond reactivities (per bond) are determined to be 1.5 for insertion and 7.5 for abstraction.     

Chemistry of organosilicon compounds : LXXX. Useful modifications in the preparation of trimethylsilylsodium and trimethylsilylpotassium

New procedures for preparation of trimethylsilylsodium and trimethylsilylpotassium, which gave coupling products with primary and secondary alkyl chlorides in high yields, are reported.     

Clinical application of extracellular fluid measurement using 35S-sodium sulfate (author's transl)

ECF (extracellular fluid volume) was measured by 35S-sodium sulfate and the same time value of PV (plasma volume) was determined by 131I-RISA in each subject. In normal ECF was an average of 181 ml/kg, 6.21 l/m2 and PV was 49.1 ml/kg, 1.69 l/m2. Both values of ECF and PV in essential hypertension were almost the same as those in normal. In congestive heart failure ECF was 232 ml/kg, 7.51 l/m2 and PV was 55.8 ml/kg, 1.80 l/m2. In the patients with ascites or edema, ECF was 256 ml/kg, 8.69 l/m2 and PV was 53.0 ml/kg, 1.79 l/m2. The results of the measurement by the two compounds also corresponded to the conditions of the patients who showed electrolytes disorders (ACTH deficiency, SIADH) and was improved by treatment.     

Energy distribution of photoelectrons generated from highly charged ions in a circularly polarized intense laser field

We observed the energy distribution of the photoelectrons generated from the highly charged ions in the tunneling regime by using a circularly polarized Ti:Sapphire laser (745 nm, 100 fs). The peaks for each successive charge state up to Ar³⁺, Kr⁴⁺, and Xe⁵⁺ were clearly resolved, and the peaks due to higher charge states were flattened in the high-energy region and deviated from those predicted by the quasistatic model. This deviation is explained by pondero-motive acceleration in the strong field gradient. In Xe, Xe⁸⁺ was generated at a peak intensity of 2.0 × 10¹⁶ W/cm².     

Vibronic problem in the higher excited states of F-center in alkali halides

Vibronic problem in the higher excited states of F-center in alkali halidesA new approach to the vibronic problems of bound polaron is proposed, taking advantage of the spherical symmetry of the system. By applying the obtained formula to the analysis of the transient absorption spectra due to the transition from the relaxed excited state to higher excited states of F-center in alkali halides, a good fit between the theory and the experiments is obtained and the final states of the transition are assigned to be 3p state and its phonon side bands perturbed through vibronic coupling.
