A Regenerated Fibre Bragg Grating (RFBG), with repeatable high temperature response between 400 °C–1200 °C, has been demonstrated using a hydrogen-loaded, highly germanium-doped, photosensitive fibre. A wavelength shifts of as much as 20 nm is attained during temperature calibration up to 1300 °C. A large temperature response of 17 pm/°C is obtained from the RFBG, with very good repeatability.  相似文献

The operation of the self-excited Brillouin/erbium fiber laser (BEFL) is experimentally demonstrated. It uses a forward pumped erbium-doped fiber (EDF) as a gain medium to generate a Brillouin-pump (BP) and amplify the Stokes frequency signals generated in a single-mode fiber (SMF). The operating wavelength varies with changes of coupling ratio of the looping arm. The optimum BEFL operation is obtained with a center wavelength at 1567.5 nm by looping back 20% of BEFL output into the other end of the SMF. The BEFL output power and number of lines increases gradually as 980-nm pump power increases. At the maximum 980-nm pump power of 118 mW, a stable and strong BEFL comb of up to 16 lines with 11 GHz spacing is demonstrated. The self-excited BEFL has the potential to be used in the future dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) communication system.  相似文献

We demonstrate a multi-wavelength fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) in dual-cavity configuration with two output ports. The laser employs a piece of erbium doped fiber (EDF) and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as the gain medium in a separate cavity. By incorporating PCF in the dual cavity the non-linear polarization rotation (NPR) effect is enhanced and thus higher output and more oscillating lasing can be achieved. The laser produces three strong lines with a spacing of 2.40 nm and side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of more than 10 dB at 1535 nm region. Another output produces 8 lines of optical comb with a spacing of 0.54 at 1570 nm region.  相似文献

A simple multi-wavelength source is demonstrated based on spectral slicing of supercontinuum (SC) light using a Sagnac loop mirror. A mode locked fiber laser with pulse width of 800 fs is employed to generate the SC in photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The SC light extending from 1200 nm up to the wavelength region above 1750 nm is obtained at the amplified pulse pump power of 30 dBm. By slicing the SC with a loop mirror, a multiwavelength comb spectrum is obtained with different channel spacing for different operating wavelength region. Spacings of 1.5, 2.3, and 2.9 nm are shown at wavelength regions of 1220, 1450, and 1730 nm, respectively. It is also observed that the signal to noise ratio (SNR) increases from 15 to 20 dB as the operating wavelength increases from 1220 to 1730 nm region.  相似文献

A double frequency spaced multiwavelength Brillouin-Erbium doped fiber laser (BEDFL) with figure-of-eight cavity have been successfully developed and tested. Double frequency spacing is achieved by using a piece of 2 km of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) as a gain medium. Figure-of-eight configuration removes the odd order Stokes signals via a four-port circulator. Fifteen Stokes channels are simultaneously generated with a spacing of 0.154 nm that is around 20 GHz, when the Brillouin pump and 980 nm pump powers are fixed at the optimized values of 6 dBm and 40 mW, respectively. Fourteen anti stoke channels are also obtained, which are generated through four wave mixing (FWM) process in the laser cavity. The output is smooth triangular comb. The BEFL can also be tuned from 1526.5 to 1567.5 nm.  相似文献

A passively mode-locked, bismuth–erbium-co-doped fiber (Bi-EDF) with a pulse width of 460 fs is proposed and demonstrated. A highly doped, 180-cm Bi-EDF with an erbium concentration of 3,250 ppm/wt and an absorption rate of 133 dB/m at 1,530 nm serves as the gain medium. The cavity is 11.6 m long with an overall group velocity dispersion of +0.063 ps2. The output pulses have a repetition rate, average output power, pulse energy and peak power of 11.18 MHz, 5 mW, 448 pJ and 1 kW, respectively. The system has a high beam quality and a narrow pulse width output in the L-band region.  相似文献

In this paper we propose and demonstrate a double-pass configuration of a compact high gain short wavelength (S-) band amplifier based on a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) operating from 1480 to 1520 nm. The proposed system provides gain value of 31.07 dB at a signal power level of −40 dBm taken at 1500 nm. The measure gain profile of the double-pass configuration over different power levels and at different signal wavelengths outperforms that of the single-pass configuration. The noise figure of both configurations averages out to 10 dB. This system provides a good alternative as a high-gain and compact amplifier in the S-band region.  相似文献

We present a simple, compact and low-cost mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) using single-wMled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) embedded in a poly-ethylene oxide (PEO) thin film as a passive saturable absorber. The film is fabricated by using a prepared homogeneous SWCNT solution, which is mixed with a diluted PEO solution and cast onto a glass Petri dish to form, by evaporation, a thin film. The 50 μm-thick film is sandwiched between two fiber connectors to construct a saturable absorber, which is then integrated in an EDFL cavity to generate self-started stable soliton pulses operating at 1560.8nm. The soliton pulse starts to lase at a pump power threshold of 12.3mW with a repetition rate of 11.21MHz, a pulse width of 1.02ps, an average output power of 0.65 mW and a pulse energy of 57.98pJ.  相似文献

Abstract

An efficient multi-wavelength Brillouin erbium fiber laser is demonstrated using an improved configuration with a broadband fiber Bragg grating and a piece of photonic crystal fiber. The laser generates more than 55 lines of optical comb with a line spacing of approximately 0.09 nm in a 1,565-5 nm region using pump powers of 3 dBm and 150 mW for the Brillouin and 980-nm pumps, respectively. The Brillouin erbium fiber laser with a fiber Bragg grating's reflectivity of 50% obtained a higher number of comb lines compared to that of 99% reflectivity.  相似文献
